Wow Mat, this is great - looks like you’re down there in Portland! The music is melancholic, almost threatening in nature, and very beautiful. Really good track. I felt that the drums could have done with more ‘oomph’ to drive it along, but that’s just my slant on things, it’s great as it stands.
Then there’s the video - it matches the music perfectly. Menacing!

I thought you were heading for my house at the start before veering down to Portland at the last second! There are apparently a fair amount of tunnels and bunkers in Portland, maybe just beneath the drone footage. I read that they used to transfer munitions underground from the cordite factories around Wareham/Portland. Anyway….
I like the anthemic synths and melody, nice big synth sounds and a cool atmosphere. Gives me early 80s sci-fi TV show vibes. Airwolf spring to mind but that might be due to the drone footage lol.

Voice and guitar are obviously external, and I don't tend to use iOS amp sims the so the guitar tone is from a Strymon Iridium pedal, but delays and modulation are in the box (usually Other Desert Cities, Super VHS, and FAC Medusa).
All the rest is done in Logic for iPad using the usual array of apps. The synth in the intro is Zeeon.
Hi I'm new to audiobus forum and to IOS music making but I stumbled on this Song of the month club last month and think it's a great idea for mutual feedback and not feeling like shouting into the void. Last months song of yours I slightly preferred but both are of high quality, they are also a bit 'annoying' :-) in that my mind is trying to place them as something I have heard and known during the eighties and I know well..but...I don't, but it feels like I do (think this is a compliment) and I keep trying to place them and can't because I don't!!
...This one does seem to have borrowed some notes from wicked games separate from the eighties mystery song....good stuff.
I like me some melancholic music and this delivers...a third of the way through I'm visualising wire fences and people in tattered clothing, towards the end it has become film noir with the protagonist smoking in the rain waiting for the person that will never come...
Don't think you have anything to worry about regarding the piano playing, you put expression, emotion and a certain rawness into it...do not lose this as you get more technically proficient. Last months, I listened to three times on the trot just to listen to the build up and chorus, reminded me of one of the tracks from Tommy by the Who. Definitely a musical theatre vibe to your work, good storytelling.

I think Wicked Game might come to mind because of the falsetto note at the start of the chorus, but luckily for me it's not the same melody.
Beautiful high quality production. Perfect for a short meditation and stillness. As a song/general listening I would have liked some more movement, perhaps whispers/violin scrapings or etc etc....flowing in and out of the stereo field from left and right leaving the solid substance of the track but floating around barely touching.
Like this...some Lemon Jelly vibes going on. Perhaps the attack on the piano needs a little smoothing to balance with the rest of the track and not overpower it. If you've not got it I'd recommend you downloading Xinematix as I feel you would be able to incorporate some of the many sounds into your work.

Had to listen a couple of times as I wasn't sure what to make of this one. Second time it made me think of 'Love makes you crazy' by Mike Batt which was a part of an eighties sci fi musical, zero zero. Not sure why because it very different but it felt like it would fit in as part of it. :-)
Smooth and relaxing...or 'gently nice' as my partner has just commented from the other room. Interesting movement/development throughout, could be longer, I would personally have turned the drums down just a tad.
Grows on me with more listening, I like the dystopian vibe when watched with the video, although the music almost seems to be too upbeat...but it also feels threatening as well so it works. The contrasting volumes and the build ups give interesting dynamic range. Nice package.
Listening in a club environment this would not be out of place, I actually preferred the instrumental interludes to the vocal parts. Listening to the original I much preferred the vocals, it feels the stem splitting removed the breathiness and nuance of his voice.
Just been saying this to t'other 'alf, they blow most of the commercial top ten these days out of the water.
Beautiful intro and build up. The second time listening I felt a 'time squeeze and release' (mild warp and release) of the whole track (all stems) might add to one segment somewhere around the middle, so patterning 3 does not get too settled and your input is regularly reminded to the whole. ;-)
Yeah it’s weird what stem spitting can take out and leave with a track.
Considering returning to it at some point and developing it as an instrumental.

No not a change in tempo. I'm finding it hard to explain and it might not work at all but around 3:40 as a kind of transition, more like a subtle wobble/vibration as if an external force was trying to invade your track and the track shakes it off (3sec max) and just continues. It all sounds a bit weird as I'm trying to explain what I mean and TBF it was only a minor thought as I was listening through again to a wonderfully constructed piece. :-)
I think I get what you mean. To my ears there’s a crescendo and then there’s a (resolved ?) cadence. It gives the impression that it’s going to kick into a big loud finish with drums strings and all the choir ramping up, very reminiscent of Sigur ros or to an extent Mogwai It’s very short but I find that can be beneficial in achieving that thing. but when the piano typetheme returns it banishes it. I kind of like it the way it is tbh, there’s a nice familiarity with it.

Really like the soaring opening with the Vangelis-like synth sound. As usual, it’s a very polished production. The restrained guitar is especially powerful in this one.

A fine slice-of-life song. It’s an interesting story told with a restrained presentation. We’re given enough info to speculate the whys and wherefores of his condition, but not so much that he is pigeonholed into a caricature. Very well done.
