I kind of wish more developers would ask the people here if they'd like to develop free patches in exchange for advanced access to these synth/noisemaker apps. We have a lot of talented people here whom I'm certain would be willing to trade a bit of their time in exchange for some name recognition and a free app.

  • This is his most original and yet slightly like the moog of late. Perhaps it’s the amazing presets that showcase it so well. I love this idea of basic note/scale quantizing ,and once I get good at this I feel like I learned sorta what I’m doing. The manual is nice too, cheers

    I definitely would be interested!

Great idea. It will probably provide more preset diversity (and help those of us that focus on other areas of music production)

How does the sound compare to, say, Hilda? Love me a low pass gate!

Me too, I’m a sucker for westcoast. That and the wavefolding made me buy it. Great synth and I just skimmed the surface.
Pity about no external auidio input but a solid release once again from a great dev.

Maybe an ABF community preset bank is in order, although the stock presets are great

  • I really like this synth, it's the closest thing we have to a buchla on iOS (apart from the amazing one in drambo)

I would love a Forum preset pack!

  • Just a minor aesthetic nitpick: the app icon could use some brighter colors, at first I thought there was something wrong cause it seemed all black

The only thing that really matters is how it sounds, though, and that’s covered, but I have to RTFM cause even the labels are hard to discern (to my aging eyes at least)

Not sure what Buchla/Drambo preset you’re talking about (there’s a few) but doing a proper LPG with end-of-cycle triggers is a challenge in drambo due to its feed-forward philosophy. There’s the feedback modules, and Ive seen several takes, and tried my own. Still think that some dedicated modules would be great. But @giku_beepstreet has a lot on his hands already

The tumbleweed ones sound good IMHO but I have only played with them very briefly, But I was impressed.

I totally agree that some dedicated modules for drambo would be killer!!

Beepstreet has something in the oven!?

  • I only got as far as about the 5th or 6th preset before I stopped exploring and made a tune... Looking forward to trying to get my head around West Coast synthesis with it.

THe presets are very 'Blah', the synth itself, seems great!!!

The buchla easel simulator that @tumbleweed did is the closest you can get to a vintage easel in software, on par with the Arturia easel soundwise (Arturia is modeled as the “new” BEMI easel, different sound and features). I have both the vintage and the BEMI hardware synths and helped with raw sound files, ranges ,etc… for that emulation. Tumbleweed did an awesome job and soundwise his drambo creation is almost perfect. Try it!

Has a very cool Thom Yorke vibe there in part 2.

    Yes they do!!

Beepstreet always has something in the oven 🔥But no buchla that I know about

  • i dont think its good for percussive sounds (which is usual domain of westcoast synths)

I think it can do percussive stuff, I made a sort of approximation of buchla bongos, just messing around.

Plus I respectfully disagree that west coast is usually used for percussion sounds I like it for drones and organic sounding sustained notes. :)

No offense but I also disagree that west coast is only for percussive sounds. Actually I never use it for that. I like the woobwoobs and have better percussion elsewhere

  • Buchlas are great for a huge range of sounds. Their envelopes/gates make possible certain kinds of attacks that a lot of envelopes can’t. Is the issue here that this synth can’t do those sorts of super-fast attacks?

  • I donr think so :(

    Then what is the issue?

  • I kinda wish there was a video so far of it being used to design sounds vs presets…as I’m a sound designer type that’s my main interest . I can’t get it until next paycheck as I just paid my rent yesterday but in two weeks if nobody’s done one yet I will 😎

Let’s hope Leo @sfm will do an in depth review on this.

  • Would love to see tutorials for this and those recent Alexey N midi apps. There’s been a flurry of interesting stuff lately

  • Update v1.0.1!

  • In generative mode this is almost like half an Ongaku by Giorgio Sancristoforo! It’s capable of some complex and interesting patches for sure.

  • Yeah I gotta get this …damn rent lol

If you’re in the US region, I’ll hook you up. I can gift the app but I think we have to be in the same region for the App Store

no issues. just dont think it can generate those sort of fast attacks.
