  • been using the previous version for over a year on nearly every project, happy to pay again for a better UI and more things to tweak!!

Why dont people make different colour ui and just make it a few knobs like Dagger or Bram apps.

What do you mean by this exactly?

  • I may still keep although dont really use ipad much.

Out of the synths I posted ( apart from rss vocs )

Has anyone noticed it needs an update to resize in aum ?

knobs are cut off from screen.

Its kinda the main ios host.

Thought cpu were high but 8 voices is lower than the old obxd ( just not seemingly low like twin 3 )

    Then the ui.

I actually like the old blue more and sort of that it can also be full screen.

Its only recently I bought an rss filter that can be used ( without mapping to a controller ) so half screen for this is ok. Although if I do map filter to a controller. The full screen version may seem better.

    Ipad 9.

    Maybe someone will contact dev.

    Na.

Half screen is better for tweaking external modulation.

So my complaints are just the sizing problem in aum ( although I dont use aum ) and is ok in Drambo.

Perhaps a few colours wouldnt go a miss.

The old blue. White, grey etc.

I think that could be a ui design for me who sees light weird.

A grey synth, black knobs or black and white knobs. Copper or brown writing.

  • Hmm ( dont mean to be an ahole )

    As its the devs income

but maybe it isnt for me

jussst in case I use a graphic modulator ( which I never have )

But just been going through synths which size to fit the modulator and have enough but would have kept otherwise.

Silly to refund because of a modulator ?

  • edited August 2024

Anybody do a comparison of both plugin sound ?

  • Just tweaking oscilators.

Does seem to get hot outputs when switching to unison.

Maybe when the pro demo arrives.

It will answer if the oscilators will suit more ( the 32 voice it can muster )

    If porting apps from desktop.

Is actually the same as building for ios ( regarding the hot outputs etc )

  • Its probably worth keeping. Even without the Drambo modulation lane.

It is a tweaking synth tbh and drambo modulator to fit, is just a bonus.

It is more Mariana-ish with the sound engine and you could have a track of both obxd for tweaking.

Same ui but maybe different sound.

Made a better demo, with all knobs.

It is a tweaking synth and maybe thats worth the money to you ( If you dont even make songs )

  • Iv emailed about the aum size issue.

Theres synth tweaking with reverb in vid.

  • Anyone wanting a short but thorough walkthrough, which also covers in detail the differences between this new version and the old one, I now have a vid up on my YouTube covering all that in a mere 20 mins. Spent the whole day today clarifying that and other details about the UI and the synth operation. I don't like posting all my stuff outside YouTube on forums etc, thank you for understanding, but you know where to l find it if curious!

  • Check Gavs vid.

    He knows what gwan.

    Anyway.

Another go with synth. Just recording and uploading first efforts.

Cant believe I were going to refund.

    Its my best Poly synth.

    Dagger quality.

Yeah man, it's definitely similar to Dagger in having tons of character. Brilliant sound from the oscillators, filters sound great to my ears too. Great drone synth!

    Nice Gav.

The company said there will be update for size issue in aum. Synth still usable in Aum.

    Which is ipad 9th Gen.

  • Has anyone tried to create a new bank with their own presets? My attempts have failed:
I first created a new bank in the menu with “New Bank”. Curiously, the bank is not empty, but contains the presets of the last selected bank. I found “Reset Bank” in the menu, now the bank is empty. Then I created a preset and gave it a name. After switching to a factory bank and back to my own bank, my preset was no longer there, but the presets deleted with “Reset Bank” were.
All right, try again. This time I exported the bank to see if my preset still exists after the import. Next problem: as with the previous version, nothing can be imported because the files are “grayed out”. At least the old version has a folder on the iPad where you can copy your banks and OB-Xd will recognize them. When exporting with the new version, a folder is created in iCloud, but the bank is not automatically recognized.
As it is now, the OB-Xd 3 is a pure "Preset-Schleuder", as we say in Germany :D :-) I think I'm returning an app for the first time....
By the way, I know that the iOS file system causes problems when too many apps are installed (grayed out files, zip files can no longer be shared, etc.)

Jesus, have not tried, that sounds like a nightmare. Why do so many iOS (and desktop) preset systems suck? I usually just use AUM as I don't have the patience to deal with the almost universal mediocrity of individual preset systems and their quirks (not that the AUM system is great either, but at least I'm used to it 🤷‍♂️).

This is what I flagged early in the thread, but regarding older banks. The app won’t read the files, they are greyed out when trying to import. Manual import through the file system don’t work either, and now your issues with saving your presets…

Soundwise this app is top notch so… it would be great to get a fix. Is the dev active here? Does anyone know?

  • Got an answer right away:

  • I got this for my iPad Pro M1, but I also tried it on my iPad Air 1. For anyone who’s curious: an Air 1 will download this app, but not run it. This is not a complaint, and I didn’t expect it to.

  • Just get the real thing !

OB-Xd is absolutely brilliant, out of all my analog synth apps on iOS this has to be the best so far, but the downside to this app at the moment is it’s none resizing ability on the 13’ iPad Air M2, both stand-alone and AUv3 versions are small.

    v3.5.4!

    1. Is there a manual?
    2. Is there a way to turn off the note names on the standalone keyboard?

    Manual: https://www.discodsp.com/pdf/obxd.pdf

  • @dokwok2

The manual is available on the discoDSP web site (https://www.discodsp.com/obxd/) but you have to open the More link below the Download button in order to see the PDF link. Here's the direct link to the manual:

I like the look of the new UI, I think it should be free for those who already own the original, it’s just an update.

At least a bundle upgrade or something.

  • So has anyone successfully loaded any patchbanks that are free across the web or from their older version of OB-XD yet?

So the only difference is the interface ? For 17.99$CAD. No thanks

Not just the UI - see my post above. But yeah, doesn’t look like a very essential upgrade

Are you going to do a video putting both versions against each other sound wise ?

I have no plans to do that. It already took me a full day, morning to night, to prep and make that last video and I have other things to do. They sound the same as far as I can hear, I compared a few patches from the original version and this one myself before making the video and heard no difference - and i said that specifically in the video. I also mentioned that I hadn't yet been able to hear an example where oversampling whether x2 or x4 made a difference. What I did also say in the video though is that they are capable of sounding different, largely because the new version has a filter capable of self oscillation (kind of) which the old one was not capable of. That doesn't affect old patches though because that ability can be turned in or off with a button. There are other things that can make a difference to sound, if you want, like using a knob to adjust filter key tracking. I mentioned all this in video already too. Tldr - I wouldn't buy the new one expecting a better sound out of the box. Buy it for other features like the self oscillating filter or the better UI, if these are important to you. The old version will be good enough for many already.
