So has anyone successfully loaded any patchbanks that are free across the web or from their older version of OB-XD yet?

I have downloaded a bank of presets but they are in the wrong format even though it states they are for the OB-Xd?
I have exported a couple of presets from OB-Xd to a Files folder, they are listed Tera Synth Sound Presets but will only open in OB? I’m a bit baffled now🤔

Excuse the irony but it looks really ‘beautiful’ now when maximizing the plug-in window in AUM :sunglasses:

Confirmed, bank issue not read and/or greyed out is still there. Import/ export banks won’t work. Manually moving older banks yields the same result, app won’t load the new banks at startup. Scaling issue also still there inside hosts.

One can wonder, did they skip the beta-stage on the iOS-version?🤔

Can someone else confirm as well and I’ll reach out to the developer again?

Yes. I opened each bank in the old version of OB-Xd and selected "Export Bank" in the menu. I was then able to import each exported bank in the new version of OB-Xd. This worked for the old KVR Coummunity Banks, Luke's Soundhouse bank, etc.

Please do reach out again, ask them to bring back the ‘pan&scroll’ to the UI (OPL does this already) which could be handy to access the whole plug-in UI when using an on-screen keyboards in Logic & Cubasis etc.

I doubt they test this on actual iDevices as they would have bumped into these issues after a few minutes.
OPL has ‘chopped off’ controllers at certain zooms etc.

On the other hand it sounds good and a few glitches here and there won’t make me delete it :sunglasses:

    Tackar!

Hopefully they will add a fully scalable UI to the iPad version similar to the one in the desktop version which they kinda have to if the intention is release this update for the iPhone as well.

Looking forward to the next update! :)

I am having problems with the UI not sizing correctly when used in AUv3 mode in Cubasis 3 on both iPad Air 4 and 13” iPad Air M2, I contacted the developer but they informed this is a Steinberg issue, but this can’t be true because when using OB-Xd in stand-alone on the 13” iPad, there is a 3.5cm border each side of the UI, but on the Air 4 it is full screen!

It's NOT a Cubasis 3 issue, the plug-in gets a view-port size from the host and has to adapt to it.

OB-Xd V3 doesn't even scale properly to the default AUv3 plug-in size (the previous version did and allowed pan/scroll to reach the rest of the UI similar to what OPL from the same developer does).

I suspect the developer did not even bother to launch the plug-in in the most common AUv3 hosts on the platform...
(It takes <5 minutes to dig out multiple layout glitches in the plug-in by launching them in AUM, Cubasis, Logic, Drambo etc. and scaling the view, rotating the device etc).

...so Yeah, I'm 100% confident there was ZERO real beta-testing done with this plug-in prior to its release.

I'll keep it on my device but will not waste time reporting things that should have been fixed prior to release...
...and will be careful with all future apps from this developer.

    Cheers!

  • Do we know how long the intro price lasts?
With all that sizing & presets issues going on I‘m not really interested in upgrading from the free version.

  • I honestly love the look of the new UI as I am a sucker for skeuomorphic, but I already own the first version and I never ever ever use it.. Might be because I can’t stand the UI. Maybe I’ll try firing it up again and try to give it some love to justify the buy. @Gavinski Made a great demo on his Youtube that sparked my interest.

Do so! Despite the few scaling issues it sounds amazing and is well worth it!
(Hopefully the UI issues will be sorted out sooner rather than later).

  • I contacted Disco DSP regarding the resizing issues. They replied as follows (if it is considered unethical to quote their reply, please remove it):

"Regarding the graphical user interface (GUI), it’s set to a fixed size by design. This decision was made to ensure that all controls within the app remain fully accessible and functional. Allowing the GUI to resize dynamically could potentially lead to situations where certain controls become difficult or even impossible to interact with, which would negatively impact the overall user experience. We believe that maintaining a fixed size provides the most reliable and user-friendly interface across all supported devices."

I can think of a number of other devs who would be surprised to learn that what they do as a matter of course is impractical or impossible for Disco DSP.

They could at least add pan & scroll to it when it doesn't vertically fit into the give view-port, like the old OB-Xd did and current OPL does...

Bu hey, it sounds good and I guess that is what matters in the end?! :sunglasses:

Yeah - although it doesn’t resize, and that is definitely a pity, at least the UI elements themselves are a decent size. It doesn’t strain my eyes to work with this. That’s the main thing, for me. I’d still rather use this than Fab Filter apps, for example, or than those Ryo Togawa synths, which really do strain my eyes horribly. OB-XD does have some issues with it being difficult to dial in knob values though - it doesn’t have a fine tuning control like, say, BeepStreet Dagger or Combustor. This makes it a bit annoying for live tweaking if you are a person who values speed and precision. Seems like the dev is going to improve that though. @Slush if you like the UI, I would definitely say just grab it if you don’t mind spending the money. I agree that the UI on the old one was so horrid, really, that I never felt compelled to use it. Amazing sounding synth, massive amount of brilliant presets, much better looking UI than before, and only $13 on intro, which is a good enough price I think when compared to typical prices for synths on iOS in 2024. Compare it for example to the $30 that something like BA-1 costs.

Try it! The UI is a lot more inviting and the preset handling is way better than in the previous version IMO. IF and I say IF they sort our feedback out. I can totally live with the non-scaling thingie but I want to be able to import/export/save without issues.

    /DMfan🇸🇪

  • Is anyone else able to reliably save presets? I’ve hesitated to post this for fear that it’s user error. I’m on the latest version of the app, an M2 12.9, 17.5.1.

In AUM, I make a new bank (which is populated with "Default" presets by default), make a preset, hit "Rename Preset" (the only way I see to save), and key in a name. So far, so good, and the new preset shows up in the new bank.

But if I go to another bank, and then back to the new bank, the new preset is gone and the bank is filled with "Default" presets.

The same seems to hold true with the standalone version.

This is with the "updated" app that was supposed to fix these issues.

Someone, please tell me that I’m just failing to understand how this "system" works.

The developer has responded quickly to a few questions I sent, so I am optimistic that the issues will be resolved in the next release or two. This synth sounds incredible and I think it is worth the additional investment (if nothing else, to encourage the developer to continue working / improving the app).

Got a fast reply the first but second time, no response. Hopefully the time is spent fixing issues not ghosting feedback. We’ll see, but beta-testing before release on a real iPad might not be such a bad idea in the future… @samu is spot on here. This stuff should have been caught way back in the process.

    Is this the verdict?

It is ok, landscape mode without user resizing GUI.

A user resizable GUI, would obviouslybe better though.
