This is what it says in the user manual:
    Voice Allocation Mode (VAM):
Switches the priority of voice allocation from the default low-note priority to last-note priority.

I asked the dev if they’re planning on brining iPhone support, and they said no 😖

They’re going to keep supporting the old version though, so that’s good.

    Dammit.

Then again considering what I’ve been reading here maybe I dodged a bullet. Just looks like it’d have been easier for me to make presets in this one bug I guess I’ll just have to continue using the old one like a preset player only (sadly without being able to access the bottom two banks as an AU in GarageBand)

  • Newest release, still not able to save presets. Create new bank. Create new preset. Copy preset. Go to new bank, paste preset. Rename preset. So far, so good, shows up in new bank. Go to different bank, then back to new bank, and all presets are “Default". New preset not there.

Is it me? Because I’m willing to admit the possibility of user error and I hope someone can set me straight. All I want is a no-drama way to save a preset, like in 99.8% of other AUV3s.

I like the potential of this app, and I almost never go for refunds, but three or four more updates without solving the problem might push me over the edge.

  • I personally would just consider not saving presets in the app. Just pretend it doesn't have its own preset system and use the preset system in your host 🤷‍♂️

Seems to me they are not overwhelmingly happy about the feedback…

Do others really trust doing this? Maybe AUM users are spoilt but in my experience of Cubasis and now Logic, I now ALWAYS save synth and effects on the AU itself. So many times that state saving has let me down.

  • 3.5.7

Still greyed out banks, app won’t import any banks even if manually placing them in the banks folder. The app won’t read them. Even tried uninstalling Tera Pro, importing won’t work. The file extension belongs to OB-Xd when exporting, and opening .fxb -files opens the app. Still, the opened bank is nowhere to be seen inside the app

    Contacted the developer again. Patience.

Once you paste a preset into your selected bank you must then tap Overwrite, this makes the paste permanent 👍

Thank you! This does appear to work, and is SO much more intuitive and efficient than simply tapping a button called "Save As" and naming the file.

Tomorrow, to celebrate the coders at Disco, I’m driving from Tampa to Atlanta by way of Dallas, Phoenix, Denver, San Diego, Boise, Fargo, Detroit, and Memphis.

I am glad it works for you, it also works for me but only in certain circumstances since update v3.5.6:

    1. The Overwrite function no longer works when used as AUv3 inside Cubasis 3 on both iPad Air 4 and 13” iPad M2, both using the latest iOS.

    2. The Overwrite function does work in Stand-alone mode and presets can be saved to a User Bank, but the majority of preset editing and saving needs to be done in AUv3 mode as part of a project.

    3. Any presets saved in Stand-alone mode do not appear in AUv3 mode preset lists.

    4. The “Save Preset To” function works in AUv3 mode but not in Stand-alone mode.

I have updated OB-Xd to v3.5.7 but nothing has changed in all that I have mentioned above.

Is anyone one else having these problems?

I always save my presets in AUM as well. It’s never failed me. I think we are spoiled 🙂

I have never had a problem. That said, the AUM preset system is basic - no folders, no tags, no search, etc. But at least I know how it works and don't have to bother with the (often seriously subpar or unintuitive) preset systems in various apps.

Latest OB-Xd update v3.5.8 has fixed the AUv3 Overwrite function for saving presets 👍

    3.5.8 clean install

In the Banks folder of the new install every single bank I have on my iPad for the older version is present, all greyed out. They won’t be imported to the new version, they apparently won’t be read by the new version. Tried uninstalling Virsyn apps (working on my patience there but……. hey, let’s try it for fun), no difference at all.

I have no intention of permanently deleting fully functional apps supported by hard-working serious developers to get this app to work.

Exported and saved banks show up with .fxb- extension so there are no other aops involved.

Given the response from the developer we got so far I’m inclined to just call it quits. Would be better if they just labeled the new version non-backwards compatible. If you want to use older banks, stay on the older version.

Hopefully they’ll at least get all this preset saving stuff sorted out so the new version can be properly used as a “new” emulation.

I am very disappointed in this developer. This app has a great sound but…. How hard can it be? And, a bunch of us even offers to help in different ways and the answer is basically “we’re pro’s so we don’t need any help”😳. I’ll stay away from a few well-chosen words here but… no. This is just not good enough. Sorry, DiscoDSP. You’re out.

That's a bummer. The conflict with the Virsyn apps is annoying. I always say that devs should have robust import and export functions within the AUv3 itself, precisely because the Apple Share Sheet can be a frigging nightmare. The share system in Apple supports only a limited number of apps in the list. Why it is still like that, I don't know. People should have the ability to pick exactly which app they want a file to share to.

  • @Gavinski said:
People should have the ability to pick exactly which app they want a file to share to.

The 'list' in the ShareSheet and its available apps is built based on what file-types the apps are registered to to handle (this is something developers can do with a bunch of .plist entries inside their app bundles).

The Share Sheet List can be edited/re-ordered and all apps that can handle the selected file-type in question will show up, apps that can't handle it are simply not available (again developer has to register support for the file-types they can handle).

Usually the 'Share To...' works OK unless an app has completely hijacked the file-type in which case the only solution for now is to delete the offending app. (In my case it was BM3 that completely broke QuickLook as it had permanently hijacked *.wav, ie. to fix that the BM3 developer would have to send out an update and remove the file-handler for *.wav and only change it 'supported', don't recall the exact terminology but Apples has plenty of documentation on this).

Regarding the *.fxb extension it's used by MANY apps on the desktop for banks and presets so it's never locked to just one app.

This is something developers have to work out, it's not something the end-users would ever have to deal with...

Oh well, at least the problem is not much of a burden to me as I keep my app-flora relatively slim...

Thnx for the details, Samu, you're very knowledgeable on this. I just remember having a problem with some files not showing where people here said that the problem was likely due to having too many apps on the device and the only solution was to delete. I remember getting a preset pack for Tera Pro from dmt cymatics that was just impossible for me to open despite trying a ton of different hacks. It was a complete pain in the arse to deal with and wasted so much time for everyone involved. Overall, it still seems surely that there should be the inbuilt import / export options I mentioned above to simplify things.

  • @Gavinski said:

Definitely, as I've mentioned over the years (since the dawn of iOS13 when Document Picker arrived) for 'Import' all apps should support using the Document Picker to select any supported file/files and for 'Export' save the file to a location the user can select using the Document Picker unless the app already has it's own folder visible in Files.app.

In the early days before the Files.app the 'Share Sheet' was the quickest way to shuffle content between apps.

Sorry for going a bit off topic, but the problem with the DMT CYMATICS Terra Pro pack seems to be that his pack is called .tera.zip, but the extension for Terra Pro preset packs is ".terazip". After losing my mind trying all kind of workarounds, I tried creating a pack from inside Tera Pro, saw that the packs get the extension .terazip, and renamed the DMT pack. After that it worked imediately.

For OB-Xd, I will wait a while to see if the updates will end up fixing some of these problems before investing any time in it. I'm bummed that it doesn't look like the scaling issue will be adressed, since I decided to buy it after seeing a response by the developer that I read as saying it would get fixed. But that doen't look to be the plan at all seing the latest responses.

  • Obviously saving is an issue for some.

The ease of use VA poly synth vs all other synths really, makes it worth it. Plus Iv only started synth-ing again. So saving patches to tracks, with fx dosent seem alien to me.

This is how it is supposed to work however a long-standing OS bug prevents some legitimate targets from being visible in the Share Sheet even if you tap “More” to supposedly see the complete list.

It seems like the problem occurs when there is a large number of possible targets. It is a total pain.

Maybe, but after I did my app-cleanup I've had zero issues with it...
I see absolutely no point it keeping thousands of apps installed that never get used.

Currently I have a grand total of 262 apps installed and that's still way more than I actually 'need' :sunglasses:
