Some gorgeous filters in this app…
No, these are straight out of the app with no edits (like all the shots I’ve posted). If I was going to edit them I would straighten the horizons 😅
🏆
Anyone interested in testing the upcoming version of XP4N?
https://testflight.apple.com/join/hwC4AzH8
Here's what's new:
Feel free to test and give me feedback so I can finetune the last bits...
Ethereal (Soft Focus Mode):
Channel your inner Blade Runner with the Neon Night mode:
pffft.
I get that soft focus mode by default from the smudged the camera lens all the time. Make me a filter that removes that, k?
While you’re in update mode @brambos , would there be any way to implement pinch zoom? It’s mainly that there’s so much distance between 1x and 5x , but also, I do like using more extreme zooms, especially when composing abstract stuff…
Thank you for removing misleading film characterizations like “Ortho+”, etc. 😅 I joined the beta, but I don’t have much time for serious testing. Great update! 🫶 I can’t wait for the focus option.
Agree, I like this night shot, the blue landscape, and the sunset portrait one. Thank you for sharing, @sci_fi_jim. 🤩
Bram
Thanks for giving us the chance to try out a new version. Can you explain the differences between the new Neon Night and the original low light film types. How would they behave with daylight shots?
I am looking forward to trying Ethereal.
Lee
I'm still refining the Neon mode as we speak, but the look will be quite different from the other low-light mode.
That Low Light mode is very cold & blue, with the recognizable halation look around the highlights. The Neon mode will be much more vibrant with colorful blooming, to bring out the color in (night) scenes.
@brambos OK, I'm running the TestFlight version (on iP14ProMax iOS 18.3)... here's a couple of immediate thoughts:
The Neon mode is what I've been waiting for! I will use that for daylight shooting too.
The horizon level is OK but hard to see. It's so small within the frame that it's easy to loose sight of your composition searching for the little lines. I'd much prefer that the existing frame borders lit up with a colour to show horizon balance. That would be much easier and much more visible.
Well, that shutter sound is a cracker! It's also hella loud! I REALLY would prefer a toggle for that.
I'd love to see more of your emulations... this is a treat! Cheers mate!
(BTW I couldn't see a way to reply from within the app ass the TestFlight load seemed to imply.)
It's currently misbehaving, I notice. It is supposed to sound relative to the currently set system volume (and be considerably less loud than the default shutter sound of the iPhone) but for some reason it doesn't get the correct system sound level after coming back from the background and overcompensates.
They mean from inside the Testflight app, not my XP4N app
A couple from today, mostly overcast weather:

🌼 woah. That's what the 60's looked like. groovy ☮️
Yes please
But wait, there’s more! This gets better and better! Thanks Bram, you’re the man
Lovely light there, warmth in the cold😄
Golden shots! I love it! 🤩
Neon Night:
I love the colors in this
Yeah it’s got that Tarkovsky / Stalker vibe in my eyes 😍
The gritty sim really worked well, I agree.
Honestly, I'm getting to the point where I regret having clicked on this thread. The full res images slow safari to a brutal crawl. Safari on iPad loads maybe 30-secs later, or it freezes up.
Wasn’t there a file size limit imposed for this thread recently? That seemed to help. I hope it gets turned back on.
I don’t have google fiber, but I do have 100/mbs download speed, so not really a slow connection.
Sure would be cool if users just took a couple seconds to resize for web delivery instead of insisting on uploading full-resolution.
There's a 2MB upload limit, we can't upload full res anymore, so not sure what else people can do. I'm not on fibre or anything crazy either, but only take a couple seconds to load each page anywhere I've tried so it might just be your connection.
When I was out of the country in the summer, this thread was almost impossible to load or even see the images.
I just clicked the notification on your reply and timed how long it took to load a comment from this thread. 30secs… just to read your reply.
I just checked my speed on a 5k wifi connection to a 100mb/s connection. I’m only getting 50mb/s via wifi, but it shouldn’t be this slow. I visit many sites. Many are graphics heavy. I don’t have issues anywhere else, or on this site. Only with this thread.
Like I said… I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t bother with it much any more. I only checked the thread to see if there were any fresh updates to the new build of the app yet. Otherwise, I don’t even look at this thread much anymore due to the slow loading.
@skiphunt I'm on gigabit fibre and the whole forum has been slow for me this week. I can click on any thread (not just this one) and wait 20-30 seconds for it to open. I think it's a server-side issue.
Weird, I’m on only 50ish mbs and it’s fine for me at the moment. I’m also thinking more text replies in between the pics might help, hence this mostly useless one 😄
the issue comes and goes for me, it's intermittent.
