Hoping that 2025 is a much better year for you.
Happy New Year.
I really like this.
Sounds gorgeous.
Thank you.
Thank you bro ! A great 2025 to everybody 😁
@Gravitas thank you man
Those bands are pretty terrific
If you had to pick one , which do you prefer ?
And which do you think has more “talent”?
If I had to pick one...
Diplomatic answer they are all really good.
Undiplomatic answer their not my band.
Seriously speaking the tracks I posted are my favourite tracks of theirs.
Skindred are a part of my roots as they are blend metal with Carribean patois and elements of hip hop.
The lead singer and I are first gen born Black British and part of the first wave of
creating Peace between the races and cultures and embracing the same in each other.
The creatives in the U.K at that time did a lot in regards to bringing communities and cultures together.
We fused everything we could.
I don't him personally however we have faced the same beast so to speak.
I discovered Dragon Ash back in the 90's when I had visited Japan
a couple of times and Headbanger is one of their more recent songs.
That track is dope.
The shift in guitar lines is awesome on that track.
Fishbone is from when I was a proper rocker/metal head/goth.
Their shizzle brings back everything same as Living Colour
and to discover that Living Colours' musicians are all jazz heads
made the whole rock metal thing even more fun.
Talent?
Errrmmm they all have talent otherwise
I wouldn't be able to listen to them or recommend them.
Not being snobbish however talent knows talent.
Like breathing.
No wonder we hit it off
(If that wasn’t self aggrandizing - idk what is lmao)
And very cool to see that despite it not being your thing per se it was part of the movement
That's cool.
Lololol.
It was and still is a part of my thing and movement.
London at that time was a huge melting pot of creativity, talent and heaving potential.
We didn't care, we just plugged in and played.
If a metal head rocked up in a jazz funk jam we didn't blink an eye when they played.
Remind me about this please and we'll have a chat on one of the live streams
about these times because there's a lot there.
For instance back in those days in the space of one week
I would've played metal, rock, country and western (yes, country and western),
blues, funk, jazz and latin and performed with contemporary dancers.
I'm 52 now and yeah I've seen and played a fair bit now.
For those that haven't met the guys in Meshuggah they, like most "stars" I've met, are really cool down-to-earth guys. One of my best memories was when I and my mate went for a gig with The Haunted. My friend was driving (so not drinking) but I really longed for a beer and a great gig (I had at the time seen The Haunted live 20+ times, so I knew it was most likely going to be a good gig).
As we were standing there waiting and looking around after the first opening act, my friend said: "hey, doesn't that guy over there look like Jens (singer in Meshuggah)?". Indeed he did. It was Jens for sure. As we were standing there looking around in the room (L-G of Entombed was a notorious gig goer, he went to all gigs I think) for more familiar faces in the audience I felt the need for another beer. As I was about to tell my mate I noticed Tomas Haake (drummer of Meshuggah) standing no more than 2 meters away.
As my mate wasn't drinking, but I was planning to go to the bar, I walked up to Haake and said (in Swedish obviously): "Hey, I was just going to get a beer when I saw you. I'm pretty sure I owe you beer. Would you like one?".
Haake looked at me (I'm pretty tall) healthily suspiciously and said "Why would you owe me beer?".
I said: "Well, if we were to say I owe you a beer for every hour of entertainment I've gotten from you and your music, I reckon I owe you about 2874 beers. Might as well start chipping that off. Would you like one?"
He stared at me, and then burst out laughing and went "well, if you put it that way, it'd almost be rude to not have one eh?". We ended up chatting for the whole evening, and he later called over his missus as well (she, herself a famous actress and musician, had been elsewhere with other friends) with a "this is the guy that says he owes me 3000 beers!".
We only managed to chip off 5-6 beers of that debt, which has grown since, but it is a nice memory.
I've also spent an evening drinking milk & rum drinks with Dick (bass player of Meshuggah) but I think that is a story for another time.
Awesome.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of the story.
Thank you for sharing.
Oh cool, you got the one that applies to your guitar? I have the tele and the bass one. I bought his wiring book not too long ago also, it’s also very cool (much longer!)
Cool sounding guitar piece there @yellow_eyez
Also, some amazing playing and tone by @Gravitas on one of his recent YT videos!
I should dust off my chops and get back into playing more.
I’ve got to where I can’t sit with a guitar on my lap for very long before it starts cutting off the circulation to my legs. Especially my Les Paul Custom (thing weighs about 15 lbs. which is a metric shit ton in guitar weights) So I’ve been trying to play standing with a proper strap height, when I DO get the chance to play that is.
This is why I gravitated to the iPad so much, because it doesn’t cause as much pain one, and two, I can jam late at night, or early in the mornings without disturbing other members of the household who might be sleeping in the same room. Three, is being able to grab the iPad and immediately start making music without much setup, tuning, etc.
Family life, and my work life pushed guitar to the backseat for a while, but I’m always telling myself I’m gonna start taking time off and start playing again. And that’s the great thing about our music isn’t it, that it’s always there! It’s the one thing they can’t take away from us. If I lost my job, my relationship, everything I own and ended up on the street homeless, I can STILL play guitar!
Name: Ed aka Edward Alexander aka Intrepolicious aka EDRó
Location: Florida, USA
Genre/type of guitarist: lead/rhythm blues/rock/metal/pop/classical/etc
Guitars: Gibson Les Paul Custom w/ZW EMGs (81/85), Ibanez Destroyer, a couple partscasters, Garcia nylon classical, a couple off brand nylons also (currently got the itch for a Fender HSS strat with a maple fingerboard)
Favorite /influences: Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani, Petrucci, Becker, Gilbert, wylde, evh, Hendrix, Michael Angelo, Michael Schenker Moore,… (I just copied and pasted Yellow eye’s here as we have the same influences it seems! lol - I’ll add Neil Schon, Alex Lifeson, Dave Murray & Adrian Smith, Glen Tipton & KK Downing, Randy Rhodes, Brad Gillis, Jake E Lee, Gus G, Buckethead.. jeez I could keep going!)
Favorite pickups: , EMG 81/85, Dimarzio Super Distortion, P90s
amps/cab: the only real guitar amp I still have today is my trusty Peavy (block logo ) red stripe Bandit. In my 40+ years of playing, I’ve bought and sold many, many amps.
fave Fx/pedals; currently the only guitar pedal I have is a MOOER GE-200 that has all the IR file loading etc. Sounds great, but I’ve found that I also have plugins/auv3s that sound just as good!
Samples/albums/tracks:
Here’s a couple samples from my early years of uploading unrehearsed, unpracticed stuff to YouTube. This was like 15 years ago, when I discovered I could upload stuff to YouTube. Production quality was something that never crossed my mind back then, so my YT guitar stuff from back then was.. in a word; RAW lol
This cover of an intro to an Ozzy Osbourne song seemed to get some likes. Played on a hand painted guitar I bought for $5
And a Poison cover! (Miss that Ibanez Iceman - SOLD!)
Fave apps /for drums: one shot , auto fills and Octachron (same!) and DRAMBO DRAMBO DRAMBO!
Fave DAW: DRAMBO! Plus Loopy Pro, AUM, LP4, CB3
News: Planning on starting to play and practice more. Want to put more thought into production value and actually practice and rehearse pieces before just prematurely sharing cringy playing for the world to see. I always try to chalk it up as a learning experience.
Over the last 5-10 years, I’d say my music theory knowledge has increased exponentially, as I’ve learned so much from you guys, as well as these marvelous music apps that we all love, and the countless guitar and/or music theory channels I’ve been following and learning from. I want to eventually bring my guitar world over to my synth/production world, and start incorporating guitar into my synth/Drambo pieces. I must say it was very inspiring to see @Gravitas doing just that the other night on his channel!
And here’s my LPC with the ZW EMGs
@Edward_Alexander
Ooooooooo!!!!!!!!! A ZW style axe is my kind axe man! Haha
That is very very nice: did you throw in your EMG Zw set or they came installed ?
People have been telling me to ditch the 85 for the 60 but it’s so hard to do that…never tried the 60. Any thoughts on the 85 vs 60 in the neck ?
Thank you.
🙏🏾
I've listened to your guitar videos and yeah you should bet back into playing more.
Ohhh she's cool.
Agreed.
@yellow_eyez
Nah, my best friend passed back in 2006 and left me this guitar in his will, and this was how he had it. (He had dozens of high end guitars that all went to various family and friends, and I got this one as this was the one he knew I liked.)
I’ve often thought about putting some original pickups back in it (like the 490/498), but this was how he wanted it, so I’ve ultimately decided to keep it this way.
One of my favorite things about it is that it has the banned Madagascar Ebony fretboard.
@Gravitas thx, that’s the plan!
Edit: I just want to find a “player” guitar that is lightweight for one, and one that I can play comfortably while lounging on the couch. Something with a “Contour” design (see where I’m going with this?😉)
Sorry to hear ; he left you with a beauty and yes, that ebony is my favorite for fretboard. I like rosewood almost equally. Along with maple #1… my new guitar came in maple neck but passive singles instead of my 81/85 set so I said nahh. Go for rosewood and they honestly work better color wise

Happy new year, everyone. Hope this year is a greater one than ever before.
Spent the past weeks working on a variety of projects. But at the end of the year, I got tired of carrying so many gears.
So I modified my Fender speaker to support a ton of hardware.
First we have a Zoom U-44 with the EXT which I plan on connecting directly to the iPhone
Then we have a 4 channel splitter/mixer on the other side to serve as inputs for external instrument like my keyboard, or the Zoom U-44
I also mounted an M-Wave pedal to the top of the speaker so I can use it to switch presets quickly.
Finally, I mounted an iPhone SE to serve as the control hub. I screwed in the case of the iPhone, and drilled holes on the speaker to mount the rest of the hardware.
Now, the next part is running the power and audio cables so each of the component is connected cleanly. Gotta get shorter cables.
SO your DAW/recording will be on the iPhone ? What daw ?
@yellow_eyez I tend to use Audiobus 3. Mostly because I’m familiar with it, and I can do cool stuff like switch from IAA apps using the menu, and I like the MIDI mapping. Plus, I can share a preset from my iPad and it will instantly work on my iPhone.
AUM could also work.
Only downside on the iPhone is that MixBox doesn’t work with it. But there’s a ton of other rack effects I can easily use.
Question:
1) who is concerned with radius, length and fret type (e.g compound radius vs uniform, 12 vs 17”, 24.75” v 25.5” v 26.5”?, stainless steel or nickel)
2) what did you find are your preferred neck types - c , U , or D?
When did you discover these things as integral to your playing style or preference ?
It’s crazy how many different configurations are possible with guitar from string number, to fret type, neck size, length etc
Let me start by saying this thing is $64! Works as a 2 in/ 2out class compliant audio interface for iOS. It lets me monitor everything playing on my iPad in AUM and record in my guitar…and it’s Battery powered with its own battery. With 100+ effects. I can’t say enough good things about about this little $64 beast. If you’re a guitar player you’ll love it!
Not sure what it does compared to what I already have but SOLD! Haha 😎 (reminds me of the Nux and Mustang Micro)
What guitar do you like playing?( If you have a favorite ?)❤️
I usually don’t get this excited about stuff but it came in the mail today, plugged it into my iPad 10th gen fired up AUM and it worked without an issue. I’m kinda blown away it’s only $64 lol. Right now I’m spending a lot of time playing my Ibanez AF95. It’s a fairly affordable hollow body. Also have a bunch of Strats. What are you playing if you don’t mind me asking.
I’m a little jealous. I was looking for a compact solution for around $100 or less and I got a nice deal on the mustangs micro plus , which is absolutely fantastic, but this looks like it’s possibly trumping both.
I am a Japanese kinda guy; I love my ESP and Ibanez MIJ j customs/custom shops
Main guitar is : 7 string ESP Snapper [custom shop]
So you got your hands on it !? Wow lucky
Have you ever tried other compact modelers ? How do you feel the tones and modeling compare to the big boys? < and is fractal , helix, kemper and the rest becoming passé and overcharging ?>
I personally do prefer hardware for instruments because it’s basically a fail safe versus software based stuff; however it seems the gap narrows every day and everyday something else makes the guitar world smaller and smaller
Great post
Thank you
Why not get a mini interface and just use iPad apps?
