@nuno_agogo @Gavinski I submitted a bug report (and additional wavetables request B) ) on the Waldorf website, we’ll see if it will land on the right desk.

Got a short reply. They unfortunately don’t have any additional waves to share but the bug report has been forwarded.

  • How’s everyone liking it still? Last post dropped to 5th page quickly - feels like the buzz faded quickly.

I’m in the mood for a new synth and was thinking about this - or maybe Discovery. What do you think?

I'm liking it a lot: I feel like it's finally taught me wavetable synthesis. I've had the awesomely flexible wavetable module in Drambo (I do everything in Drambo), but I didn't know how to put together anything I liked with it, unlike with subtractive or, to a lesser extent, FM synthesis. Microwave is at the same time quite flexible (with its included waves, wavetables, user designed and interpolation algorithm) and constrained enough that it doesn't overwhelm me; most things are visible or just one tap away.

Nah, buzz does always fade a bit, that’s normal, and it is not complex or buggy so no need for much chat. It’s excellent, imo!

  • I dig this synth. It def has a sound, maybe described as metallic? Could definitely cut thru the mix and be shaped to be more tame or harsh depending on the need. I plan to use it a lot!

I bought it, mostly out of FOMO and needed a new toy. Did not need, but am enjoying and glad to have in my collection. I appreciate the straightforward design, and it sounds great when played through big speakers!

Both fantastic synths. I'm a big fan of both the originals so these were no-brainers and haven't disappointed (comments on both here would suggest they've disappointed plenty of others but ymmv because mine sure has).

  • The Asic bug is a hell lot of fun . Though a bit dangerous. It can get extremly loud and dirty in a heartbeat. Love it.

  • It’s an amazing synth, one of my best buys this year.

You'll like it, it's very textural and the timbres are pretty unique.

  • It’s a fantastic sounding synth with a pretty good interface. The video posted upthread by the Waldorf exec/designer is both a good intro to using it (I think the vst:auv3 is 1:1) and some cool stuff about the history/design/chips in the original hardware.

Is this really the only decent source of free Waldorf Microwave patches out there? Seems bizarre for a synth that has been around for more than 30 years, especially in comparison to the massive number of DX7 patches available for a synth like KQ Dixie...

(These two sets of patches work, by the way. I successfully imported them and there's some good ones.)

Did a little digging and found this thread with a bunch of banks of patches. Download the Dropbox link to the .rar file on bottom of first page of the thread… Some of the multis and singles are doubled up but take a look there is some good stuff…

  • So I love microwave, the interface is great and it sounds amazing. However, I have to manually close every instance because it’s a severe battery hog. Luckily LoopyPro has facilities to take care of this, but not every host does. Is there a setting somewhere that can prevent it from depleting the battery while it’s in the background?

In AUM, you can swipe modules left to make them sleep. You don't have to actually remove them. An AUv3 doesn't actually know it's in the background, so Microwave 1 cannot offer that option by itself; it must be handled by the host.

This is true, but worth mentioning that AUM will still run down your battery.

From the manual, you can see that even just having audio or midi strips loaded will run down battery. This happens even if nodes are bypassed, I actually tested this a few weeks ago for myself. AUM runs down my device battery pretty damn fast, I must say. I never use other hosts, do they all drain the battery so hard, I wonder?:

    “ Running in background

AUM keeps running in the background if any of these conditions are true:

There are audio or MIDI channel strips in the session.
    Transport is running.
AUM is connected via Inter-App Audio to any other app.
If all of the above are false, AUM will suspend and stop running while in background.

To stop AUM from running in the background, simply CLEAR the session as described in the previous section, or swipe AUM away from the iOS multi-task thumbnail view to fully terminate it. To go back to the last session state, tap LAST STATE next time you open AUM.

It's a good idea to not leave AUM running when you're not using it, or it will drain your device battery.”

  • I'm very grateful for Loopy being able to idle plugins.

Might turn my ipad into a Microwave, but it's very worth it. Some of these multi presets are butter.

    Any clues?

As a point of clarification, idling removes the AUv3 from DSP processing, but the AUv3 is still running. So, it still uses battery and memory. It just doesn’t use DSP resources.

To have it stop using battery would require actually purging the AU which means that to reverse the process, the AU would need to be re-loaded. That is something that might be added in the future but it would not be seamless the way it is now.

Tap the ‘menu’ button at the top of the screen and select ‘import from .syx file’. It doesn’t seem to support batch import though, it’s just one at a time.

File sharing and importing seems to be a last thought for many of the big plugin developers. These are basic functions these days.

And I should also add that I love this synth. The sounds are spectacular.

In looking for more understanding. What makes up DSP resources? Is it not CPU/RAM usage... are those not the major things impacting the battery life? Is there a resource available that outlines this?

Are you saying that Microwave should use the same amount of battery when muted and Idle, vs unmuted and nothing being processed?

Muting/unmuting (really Idling/unidling) may not have a huge impact on battery usage -- that is partly determined by how the plugin works and that part is a bit of a mystery.

What idling does is take the plugin out of the realtime audio processing thread -- so it doesn't use up any audio processing time. It reduces the CPU processing load for audio. But the plugin is still running and using memory.

  • Nobody sees this bug? When you move your finger beyond the aisles ui, the level of the parameter being moved instantly jumps all the way to the right. I just now realized the cause of the problem, but I'm surprised no one noticed it. I’ll be even more surprised if it’s just me))) I’ll write to support now

Thanks Tom, however the unzipped files are in the Documents app,and I can’t access that when I try to add the sysex files (?) And within the Documents app, I can’t figure out how to move the files to somewhere else on my iPad.
Why would anyone design such an unintuitive file management system?! Drives me fucking mad

Is Documents not visible under locations in the sidebar?

Hi. Do you mean the "Documents by Readdle" app? If so, you may need to add it to the sidebar of the iOS Files app. Open the Files app, tap on the (…) icon at the top of the sidebar, and turn Documents On. Then, you should be able to access it from the Microwave 1 Import action.
