Hmm, anyone know how to import user wavetables?

I don’t think there is. Not per the manual as far as I can tell.

Ahh that’s a shame, seeing those user tables was what really sparked my interest…

    Does this have midi learn?

    Yes

How do you do it Gav? Can’t see that option anywhere…

And searching for “midi learn” in manual yields no results

Covered this in my vid BTW and it is in the manual actually, that's where I learned of it. The way to do it is to double tap on a knob or similar control. A popup will appear, and one option it will give is 'midi learn'. Cheers

    Cool. Cheers Gav

I guess the usertables have to consist of up to 64 factory waves.

Yeah, I’ve found that, I assumed that it would mean importing your own…

  • this needs MPE
would be such a great addition

It does. This was the main critical point I raised in my vid. It's soooo weird that it has a polyphonic aftertouch option for the internal keyboard, but not full mpe. I don't know why they didn't just go the extra step and at least even implement per note pitch bend.

MPE was not even invited when the real Microwave (which this is an emulation of) hit the stores.
On top of that the on-screen keyboard doesn't even transmit midi...

OK, so their own keyboard is pretty much worthless… but the sounds! 😉

  • yep, their argument is keeping it tru to the original. but well its software. i hope they add this in a future update

seems like they are back in the ios market. i guess more synths will follow

The original hardware supports poly AT, I’d guess quite rare in the late 80s.

It will probably depend on how this release goes. Hopefully, it will do well enough that they’ll keep at it.

Sure it wasn't invented then. It also wasn't invented when Synclavier came out, but that app is mpe compatible. An mpe keyboard would be a great addition now, in 2024. But look, I'm just stating my preference and it's unlikely to be added at this point. It's not something I want to spend much time discussing. Will likely make no difference in the end, lol. Still a great release but mpe would really add a lot.

Easily missed. This is the only video you need to watch to understand if it’s something you want. An overview direct from the CTO who led the project, Rolf Wöhrmann. What a brilliant piece of engineering.

Under ‚Menu‘ there’s an entry ‚show user wave editor‘.

Is this really the only decent source of free Waldorf Microwave patches out there? Seems bizarre for a synth that has been around for more than 30 years, especially in comparison to the massive number of DX7 patches available for a synth like KQ Dixie...

    https://www.presetpatch.com/synth/waldorf-microwave

(These two sets of patches work, by the way. I successfully imported them and there's some good ones.)

I think that these are already among the factory patches too (SoundSet 1 and 2)

:P it was a worthy effort though. Considering that both seem to be comparable in terms of ease of use for sound design, I imagine that popularity is the main reason for the DX7 having so many third-party patches available

Ok - chat gtp just pointed to some legendary all time favourites:

    Leftfield - "Song of Life"

Future Sound of London - "Papua New Guinea"

    BT - "Flaming June"

    808 State - "Pacific State"

The Orb - "Little Fluffy Clouds"

    Air - "La Femme d'Argent"

    Massive Attack - "Teardrop"

    Impressive B)

I wasn’t thinking of buying it, but this is a list of great pieces of music, so changed my mind.

    Yes , great list.
Unfortunately I was advised that the list could be false…ChatGPT just guesses. Sorry 😒

ChatGPT does not “guess” it uses publically available information to come up with its results amongst other sources. No where does it say it guesses the results. If you ask it what 2+2 equals do you really think it is going to “guess” and give you a random number.

    Lol.

    I’ve bought the app.
    It is really really great.

Next I’ll ask ChatGPT why I didn’t make 20 evergreens with it.
