Loopy Pro 2.0 Beta

For the final pass at the 2.0 beta, I’d like to invite some fresh eyes on board in order to get some initial impressions. Myself and the regular beta testers have seen the development from the early days of 2.0, so a fresh set of perspectives will be valuable for making sure everything makes as much sense as it can!

So, I'm opening up a limited beta. If you're serious about testing and reporting issues you find (please don't take up a spot otherwise!), then I'd love the help!

https://loopypro.com/2-0-beta/

Cheers,
Michael

I'd be happy to come on board - my advantage is I'd be a totally new user. Never installed or used it before. Could possibly give feedback as a noob to the app perhaps?

  • I’d be happy to join the beta to test again.

  • Says beta is full

  • So, when will this be out, for public consumption?

    Thanks..

OK. Are there any videos of what is to be presented? I think Doug did one, but I can't find it.
    Thanks.

    Edit... Found it...

    Posted for those, well.

  • Always been intrigued by Loopy Pro however I’m a diehard timeline trad daw based kind of guy. Would loopy offer such a dinosaur anything of extra note versus something like Cubasis or Logic?

Yes indeed, I’ve seen the tutorials etc. just wondering if it offers any advantages for those using it purely for a more linear timeline based approach.

If you are happy with your DAW workflow and Loopy’s live interactive features and retrospective recording and custom workspace features don’t have any appeal then Loopy Pro probably isn’t a fit.

Thanks @espiegel123. I think happiness is a slippery sliding scale as far as DAWs go on iOS/iPadOS :)

I keep forgetting there’s a trial so once the new update has come out I’ll give it a bash.

  • So if I do the "upgrade" now for 12 months on my Loopy pro will that include even the new 2.0 version when it's released?

I'm with you regarding the timeline based comment, however, for me (who also consider myself a timeline person when it comes to "finishing" a tune) there are different use cases for various set-ups. For me Loopy works really well in the "ideation" phase of a tune, i.e. when creating ideas. I then later flesh those ideas out in a "traditional" DAW (and finally I do my "mastering" as a third and separate process as well).

So to answer your question: it is personal preference how you do when you create songs. I love having a bunch of handy tools with me at all times, which means I like apps that work on my phone. I have an almost completely different set of tools on my iPad compared to on my phone though. If your creation process happen in, or before your DAW: great. For me I usually spit out ideas in bursts, and save them all down. I then revisit the ideas and combine a new idea with something I perhaps did 2-3 years ago, often by "noodling" around with new sounds for either my guitar, new synths or some samples. Then I either finish the tune (in a DAW) or I leave it to stew a bit longer, for me to re-discover later.

For my ideation/creation phase, Loopy is great, especially with the upcoming midi loops feature as it will (hopefully) make it even easier to quickly sketch out ideas that I can import in to my DAW (Logic Pro in my case).

    Yes!

  • For those worrying about never finishing their songs and creations, don’t, here’s the big secret – it’s all in the file name, yes that’s correct, if you look at the file name of a finished song, the file name will clearly indicate that it’s definitely the final version, much more finished than any of the previous versions, is impossible to confuse with yesterdays / last weeks / last decades version of the same song all because of the title of the filename, and is beyond any doubt the final absolutely finished song which will never need any further tampering with because the filename says so

Oh. I'm stuffed then. I often have "draft" in the name. I now realise this is the reason they rarely leave the draft stage. Thanks!

As mentioned, the answer is yes. However, you don't need to upgrade right away unless there are features that you're missing now. You'll still get all the intervening updates, plus the next 12 months, even if you wait to upgrade.

I always upgrade just as soon as the option becomes available in my copy, but just putting the info out there for clarity.

    😅😅😅

Where does everyone learn this cause I can’t recall where I got this from but I definitely do this 🥲

  • I cannot express enough how much gratitude I have for Auto Naming conventions that I experience on the regular thru Loopy Pro (and a few others .. but not NEARLY enough)

    Now I have names like LopsidedTurtle, LopsidedTurtle1, LopsidedTurtle2, LopsidedTurtle_Final, LopsidedTurtle_FinalFinal, and LopsidedTurtle_Final_srslythistyme

  • I love the auto-name feature on Loopy Pro! Great working titles, and sometimes they randomly work out so cool that I keep the name.

Sorry @hellquist i meant to respond earlier to say I really appreciate your feedback insights and your approach is pretty parallel to mine. Am
Definitely keen to give Loopy a go at some point.

  • Hi, do you have any estimated release date?
I suppose beta testing is full already..
    Cheers,
    Jens
