That’s interesting.
Hey Team didn’t want to corrupt the sales thread to continue this discussion so thought this may be the best place. I had previously posted that VHS Synth was working fine as an auv3. Just had a play with it then and I can not access the other preset banks, only the starter bank. I’m not sure if I just didn’t test this before or if an app update has borked it again. I noted it was updated 2 days ago.
It all works in standalone mode. If I press restore purchases in auv3 nothing happens. If I do this in standalone (even though everything seems unlocked) I get a pop window asking for my Apple password. I’m too scared to input it as I can’t be sure if it’s a system generated input box or one from the dev.
Anyone else lose have similar issues?
The new owners, Audiobus Pty Ltd., have added 3rd party trackers to the app and have made it app subscription.
The 3rd party trackers make it possible for them to share your usage of the app with other 3rd parties and web sites. Only device id is included in that data, not any personally identifiable information.
The subscription change supposedly only affects new purchasers. The company has said that they are "grandfathering" in existing owners. They have also said they're removing the 3rd party trackers, and have done so on other apps, though not this one yet.
So ... probably the need to log in to the App Store is simply to check the license, and possibly you will still be able to use the app. However they may not have made that change in this app yet if they haven't yet removed the 3rd party trackers. So, you could end up not being able to use the app.
Thanks Wim. Yes I’m aware of all the changes and I did have it working a week or so ago. I think I can confirm now that the latest update borked things again as the version on my iPhone hadn’t had the most recent update (the test in my post above was done on iPad). I checked it before updating and all features were working g (ie. I could access the extra banks). I then updated and now have the same issue as mentioned above.
Sent them an email so hopefully they’ll get back with a fix.
Is vhs synth safe to update?
Is super lame that all these apps we bought are now wrecked 😒
No, I would not update at present if it’s currently working for you.
I feel like they are trying to work it out for past owners and this one did work prior to the last update. Let’s hope this gets fixed and that each new update isn’t a problem.
Just on that, does anyone know if you can set specific apps not to auto update?
Temporarily wrecked. They've removed the 3rd party trackers from some of them, have supposedly grandfathered in existing purchasers so that they don't have to pay subscription in at least a few, and have said they'll fix them needing network access to function.
Wrecked as far as I'm concerned because I have no patience for the games and have removed all their apps. But not truly wrecked forever if you believe the developer will continue to follow through to put things right..
I have similar feelings. When a developer only fixes things after being called out on them it’s a little too late for me.
I’d like things to be straightforward from the get-go, not have to see how things pan out before I know whether I want to persevere with something or not.
My thoughts too. The longer they stay available, the more projects saved out there that I might want to re-open some day. And then there is the wondering what might have transpired in all those "Bug fixing and improvements" when you open the app again after some time.
On the other hand, aside from the bad PR here it doesn't matter if we never open the apps again. We don't represent any income to them at all. It's only new customers (if they can find any) that represent any kind of return on investment to them.
When apps are loaded in Logic Pro the presets show a lock sign and they are greyed out and can’t use. Anyone have an idea of how to unlock it?
I believe it's the latest update that has caused this issue (I think it came out a few days ago?). Was working for me in Cubasis prior to that update but after the change to subscription. I've sent a support request so might be good for others to do the same to help push it along.
Same. I have removed all apps by the shady developers, but I also deleted nerd, king of fm and so on, I have no interest in getting used to an app that get sold and butchered in the future on the whims of the developer.
Not sure you have to worry about those apps. I don't think they don't own Nerd or King of FM.
Different developer I think...?
From what I’ve seen I’d be pretty confident that the AudioKit apps being sold on cannot be laid at the door of @analog_matt. Very likely there are sound reasons that full details haven’t been made public. It does seem that where possible successor apps based on the AudioKit sample content have been released.
Yeah, @analog_matt seems like a solid guy, and his approach to developing music apps seems diametrically opposed to the above.
VHS was my favorite Audiokit. I see Matt’s problem, but Pty is off to a bad start and will need to work hard to repair the damage to its reputation.
Note btw that pty is not really the name of the new developer, the dev name is Audiobus:
"Pty is an abbreviation for "proprietary", which is used in the names of private companies in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa."
There's no reason whatever to worry about those other apps. They're owned by a good, transparent, totally honest, and caring developer, who purchased them at his own expense just to keep them off the chopping block.
The reasons were made public. I don't have time to dig up the posts right now, but they're here on the forum. In essence it's simple, but due to the confusion around the Brand, vs. the Company, vs. the Technology everything gets jumbled up.
They decided to get out of the app business and focus solely on the development platform. So they were going to sell them all.
Matthew was against that plan. He saved the apps that he could afford to by purchasing them himself.
The only apps that are affected by the stuff we've all discussed are the ones bought by Audiobus Pty Ltd.
It's so regrettable that this has tarnished Audiokit's brand as well as the good Audiobus name and by association Loopy Pro and its developer, our beloved forum host.
In short: There should be no associating the word Audiokit, Matthew Fetcher, or Loopy Pro with this whole mess. Audiobus Pty Ltd. apps are the only ones to "keep an eye on".
Neither Analog Matt, nor Mike (the forum owner) should be blamed for any business decisions made by a third party.
If not them, who did sell all these apps to the new Audiobus Pty Ltd company?
Did you read my post? I explained it as best I could.
The company Audiokit.io sold the “Audiokit” apps in question. They no longer publish apps.
The ones they sold to Audiobus Pty Ltd are the only ones affected.
People involved with AudioKit who aren’t Matt. The developer with most commits is apparently a chap called Aure.
It’s also worth noting that the “King of” apps from Matt contain much of the content of the original AudioKit apps:
King of FM (free!) covers FM Player
King of Digital covers D1
King of Bass covers Bass 808 Synth
VHS and Digitalism 2000 aren’t covered, I’d assume due to the origin/licensing of the content.
I think you’re trying to say neither Michael nor Matt were involved or profited from the sale of the apps to the dubious new owners, but is that true?
Of course Michael was involved in the sale, and of course some money changed hands. Is there any other way to conduct a sale? 🤷🏻♂️ He had assurances that the stuff that has gone on since would not happen, but once sold, of course that was beyond his control.
Matthew was involved as part of the Audiokit organization. No, I don’t think he personally profited from the sales, but i suppose he could have received some portion of the proceeds. I do know that he bought some of the apps to preserve them from an uncertain fate. The ones he did not purchase are beyond his further involvement since the sale.
If you still don’t get it, I give up.
Is the self appointed proxy with little self awareness and a misguided view that their nauseating volume of posts somehow makes them relevant, and less of a bore, having a bad day? I feel sorry for you, try being kinder and less patronising.
Many of us felt the need to delete all apps wrapped up in this mess. I wondered if the sellers’ regretted their decisions in anyway and took any responsibility for the mess, as they I’d seen nothing on that - and to be clear, it's for them to express that not anyone else.
The loss of the apps is no big deal for me, just thought I'd ask a reasonable question in an open forum.
Please do give up.
I’d ignore you but you think you’re above every other mod/person in this place and have disabled that ability on your profile, that reinforces everything and speaks volumes of you.
Yes I expect to be blocked or banned by you but you’ll still be you, every single day, and every time you look at yourself in the mirror or speak to another person.
It is a reasonable question and the answer is: if you sell your car and the new owner runs over somebody and kills them, you are not reponsible.
And, cue sycophants
