@samu I respect your integrity (and ofc you’re on the good list ! How could you not be ?! )
Well, hopefully this is the case. I wonder what a 3.7 update would bring to the table besides bug fixes and such. Lars and the team have been good about maintaining CB3, even with updates rolling out slowly but surely.
I’m that getting into this DAW has actually forced me to get deeper into my others-
I see something like that happening to other comrades on this thread-
I’m actually learning new things about
MTS for example, and to a lesser extent FLSM, weighing features and learning about apps that I thought I knew so well, finding the hidden features and figuring out features I hadn’t tried, and finding out what each one actually offers (offers me and my way working).
One thing about the titular DAW, and those two, they all have very active development underway.
One thing I like about FLSM unlike the others, there is a massive amount of YouTube material from Image Line and tons of artists and an incredibly detailed manual available to support it
And soon there’s the next CB update, another comparison to look into. And then I’ll probably bounce back into DAWless production.
As seriously as I take all this s##t, I think @wim noted at one point it that spending the $ and jumping around comes down to entertainment value lol
@Samu: All good, I’m just psyched to know that 3.7 will be out in a few weeks and that it’s gonna be good . Thanks for divulging at least as much as you are able to. The competition is good for n-track and for everyone else .
This is pure speculation as I have not special acces to the Cubasis team. I would say we might see some of the stuff people have been asking forever.
-Plugin delay compensation
-Tempo track
-Marker track
What I would like to see is a midi editor that is faster to work with. You constantly have to click on the tool bar to switch between edit and select. I seem to remember CB2 was faster to enter midi.
Tools like these are so much faster then going Transpose, move to 1 octave then OK.
Tools like Humanize midi, randomize velocity according to parameter.
A midi file browser preview.
One 'thing' that often gets overlooked in Cubasis are the 'left side tools' in the piano-roll editor which allow moving/nudging notes up/down, left/right, adjust length and adjust velocity.
These tools are very handy when a selection is present, just swipe up/down, left/right anywhere in the arrange area to apply the chosen tool to the selected notes, if no note is selected the selected tool will be used on the note that one taps on and once the note is selected it's possible to swipe anywhere in the arrange area to apply the tool.
This is very handy for nudging events back/forth (X-Tool), transpose them up/down (Y-Tool), or adjust the length left/right (Length Tool) once the note/notes are selected.
So as an example, to change the length of a note or notes select the length tool and swipe left/right on a note, no need to pin-point the rightmost edge to adjust it's length, with X-Move it's possible to nudge notes left or right (without fear of accidental transpose), up/down with Y-Tool to transpose without fear of accidentally moving notes left/right etc.
To avoid the 'rogue scrolling' when using the select tool enable the 'lock' (it's still possible to two-finger scroll and zoom the display even with lock enabled, only one-finger pan/scroll is disabled).
I actually took some time to 're-visit' the left-side tools in Cubasis a while back and it was an 'eye opener' to say the least
Everything except 'octave jumps' are already present but it's relatively easy to make a selection tap the Y-Tool and swipe up until you hear the notes landing on the right note.
Cheers!
Tempo track would be amazing as would PDC. Marker tracks would be a cherry on top. I'm also hoping for time signature changes, another feature that's been asked for since a long time now. But we shall see mate. Fingers crossed.
I was remembered those tools a couple weeks ago by you. I have not gotten used to them yet.
It's definitely time well worth spending...
...I wish I'd done that ages ago!
The way I approached it all was that I thought in advance "what to do I want to do with the note/notes" and then picked a tool to match and it turned out to work quote nicely and not it's more or less automatic.
X-Move in particular is nice to nudge drum-hits and with a finer grid enabled.
The Length tool to tap adjust recorded notes to the nearest grid-line etc.
One thing I still have to motor-memorize from time to time is to tap 'outside' to deselect notes...
...or deselect the select tool
@Littlewoodg : As I see it there are more GarageBand iOS videos and Cubasis vs FLSM. Also a ton of n-track videos too. Also Udemy and Groove 3 for LP4 .
I always forget to remove the pencil tool and then try to select notes and make a mess.
The bulk of what I’m talking about for FLSM is individual producers and artists. I definitely could be wrong, as I often am… Enter FL Studio Mobile in your YouTube search and you might be surprised. Outside of the forum here, there are a lot of users out there and many of them post tutorial stuff weekly and have been for years. There’s stuff in Russian, Farsi, Arabic…
@Littlewoodg : Yeah, that’s true : I see tons of FLSM in Bengali ..
Happens to me too in most DAWs on the iPad

So I just made a life choice after watching Patrick’s latest video on LP4I. He points out the obvious limitations of Logic on non M series IPads. I just had the same “not enough memory “ warning when doing some fairly basic stuff on my Air4. I’d love and plan to get an M-Pad, but I don’t appreciate their Neanderthal motivation technique of scheduled obsolescence from somebody besides myself. I’m feisty because I’m from Texas. So… I deleted LP4I and found out I’ve had it too long for a refund. I’m going n-Track all the way. I can stem split all I want, and I can save all the effect chains I want (Fabfilter gets me as high a quality as I will ever want). N-Track checks all my boxes.
(I was willing to try the LP subscription but it turned out to be more of an enticement for buying devices than an actual useful DAW..)
@NoiseHorse : On the other hand though I’ve had my M1 iPad for what four years now? No sight of obselence coming for awhile as far as I can guess…And LP4 sub is actually a great deal IMO..Was on N-Track for awhile though I’ve switched to LP4…No doubt it’s (N-Track) a great program..And the “suite” version’s sound library rivals or surpasses Cubasis’s Halicon actually..I was a lone voice on AF for awhile concerning N-Track People don’t know how good it is..And getting better all the time frequent with updates and stellar customer service .
@NoiseHorse n-track rules !
Anyone???
Gee I hope and assume it can record midi from midi plugins. It'd be unusable for me if not.
Definitely records midi from midi AUv3 instruments.
Thanks @NoiseHorse. Have you also tried recording from midi auv3 plugins?
So yes. In this pic I recorded King of Fm as straight Midi in as an Exrenal Instrument. I also can record the same app as Audio via Audiobus 3(fyi I haven’t updated Audiobus recently). These two tracks were recorded separately.
What about midi FX auv3 plugins, like Bleass Arpeggiator or Glitchstep? I played with NTS briefly and got stuck when I couldn’t figure out where or how to add such plugins.
I predict that @sfm will be getting way more views on his excellent N-Track videos.
Same with @Jadestar
Thanks to everyone for sharing the midi into/videos. It’s good to see it’s possible to record midi from midifx plugins but it’s a pity it doesn’t in the same way as Cubasis (and if memory serves me Logic for iPad) where you can simply record directly onto the track then plugin is assigned to. Much less fluffing around.
@Cambler : Great point
