I see the path of the more folder. Wonder what else could fit into that folder? Prob another style of synth or instruments down the line?

I would gladly pay for a strings or brass or piano generator/instrument in the koala style.

Still want that global play/stop button.

    This synth is quite cool!
It's surprisingly powerful with a wisely chosen minimal set of controls.
    Well done @elf_audio 😊

It is isn’t it. My only initial criticism - one that applies to Koala generally - is that there’s no way (i can find anyway) to have the onscreen keyboard and the synth parameters on the screen at the same time so you’re limited to the one note preview on the Sequence screen when designing sounds (or have to have a sequence running with a range of notes). This isn’t ideal @elf_audio and could maybe do with some thought going forward?

This could likely be solved by having the option to switch the pads to '16-level/pitch' mode with scales support as that would give 2 octaves to play and preview the sound while tweaking it. Same thing editing the effects when the sound is sent to a bus.

Having the transport controls preset on all three screens would be quite handy.

With an external controller (or hosted inside another host) these things are less of an issue but honestly for mobile-use, who carries an extra controller with them everywhere they go?!

Being able to select one of the mix-busses (preferably pre-fader when using the input module to avoid feedback) for sampling would be nice as well allowing one to process the input prior to sampling it.

It'll be interesting to see where Koala goes next and which direction it will evolve :sunglasses:

Why not use a little sequence to preview while editing? I find this more convenient anyway.

If I might ask @elf_audio for one little addition then it would be a Key Sync button in the LFO.
That would make it a second envelope for modulation, currently the only thing I'm missing 😉

Yes, i mentioned that (sequence running) as a workaround in my post and of course it works okay, just, in an ideal world, a way to access the keyboard from the Samples screen would be better still in my opinion.

And of course, if using a sequence as a way to preview sounds while designing, a way to play/stop the sequence from the Sample screen could be really helpful (as it could be generally).

    These are minor quibbles though.

Yes, your suggested solution - switching the pads to a pitch mode for the currently selected sample/synth - would do the job very nicely.

Exactly, you can’t rely on users having an external MIDI keyboard for a mobile app unfortunately.

And yes, i just mentioned in another post before seeing yours that transport controls on the Samples screen would really help - this has always been the case! Cheers.

Yes, but 'pre fader' because if you use the mic as the input on one of the busses it creates a pretty nasty feedback loop :(

  • @elf_audio, nasty bug? Put a few instances of Quokka on the first few pads in an empty project. Create a sequence. Select ‘Resample sequence’. The audio file created is placed on the first pad , removing the instance of Quokka which was there instead of placing the audio file on the first available empty pad.

  • Another 'bug' (maybe it's a feature?!) that still remains unfixed is the use of 'dual mono files' when recording mono-samples (L or R) taking up double-storage...

  • And well, since there's no way to select which input (on an USB interface) Koala uses I can't use loopback (Inputs 3-4) for recording samples...

But hey, it was a free update so I guess we'll just have to give it a bit more time :sunglasses:

It seems to not want to save user presets? I can select the built in ones, but pressing the plus sign while in the user folder does nothing.

Edit:nevermind, you have to double tap, and sometimes try a couple of times.

Was a great premier video! This synth is cool af! Just 10 minutes with it so i made a quick lil sloppy crapy jam lol

Great track. Finally this synth integration seems to be much more useful than I initially guessed.

    Thanks man!
Ya this synth is really useful and strait forward! Honestly that’s how i like em, simple like a model D and dosent require a lot of time to make a very useable patch

  • @stown said:
@reasOne I'm late to this thread but I saw you say "Allowing you to set a bar/loop length with overdub for sampling in or resample would also be my most wanted feature. Similar to how the 404mk2 works."

does the mk2 allow you to overdub when sampling and resampling? I just got one a couple months ago and am still finding my way around it but I thought overdubbing was only when using the "looper" feature. Would love to find out I'm wrong because that would be RAD

Yah you are correct, the looper is where you can overdub when sampling into it that way. Not just any pad i should a been more clear but was just living in a dream world lol

  • Another great update for Koala, this just keeps getting better and better.
Here is my tutorial for the synth.

Your work ethic is enviable. Cheers on having this uploaded so quickly!

  • I'm a rompler goblin so the simple synth design really suits me. not too limited, but still simple enough to just make something quick and nice. the resampling is awesome. Made with the stock kits.

Is there supposed to be something in the built in folder? It's blank for me, both on iPad Android.

it's bugged at the moment, i've had success on my ipad when they didn't show up once by removing and readding quokka, and moving it to different pads

Bro we have the same workflow…we are brothers

  • The timing of all this is wonderful

Just a few days ago, I paired my smc-pad with koala to experiment with hardware controls

Simply setting the controls (vol, pan, pitch, along with beginning and endpoint setting of a sample) to knobs was a WILD game changer

I've been using touchscreen for everything koala for the past couple years (save for trials with a nanopad2 but that was simply for physical pads)

I felt an intuitive control immediately

I've also been lightly diving into synth fuckery and have been desiring to setup physical knobs for THAT, but haven't found one synth to really start with to get the basics into reflex

Koala may have just given me the perfect starting point to really dig in! And I have a Nanokey Studio that could coverphysical synth control BEAUTIFULLY for my trials!!

    This is HELLA exciting!

Doug, you're amazing with your coverage and quick turnaround! Thanks for all you do!

  • I think we need a koala jams thread in here! So we can share and hear what everyone Is doing in koala/quokka

Great! Have you tried recording Koala audio sequences in Move’s Sampler kit? One sequence per sample?

I’ve made a few sample packs for Move. Are you on the Ableton/Move Discord? Lots of preset sharing on there

    If not here’s a link. https://discord.gg/ableton

  • No MIDI mapping for Quokka?

  • this synth is so cool. brilliantly simple but it yet powerful. they mentioned making more if people like it.
    yes please make more !!!

  • So the “new direction” Koala could go in are additional sound engines? It definitely sounds interesting.

Maybe not yet. We'll have to wait and see what Marek's got up his sleeve next. @elf_audio

Pun intended? Kidding. Yeah, I'm all for additional sound engines. If Marek never adds AUv3 hosting, that's fine by me. Perhaps an FM synth engine next? Who knows? I'm just enjoying what Marek is achieving here with my favourite sampler app.
