  • Still no word from @Audiobus_support ? Well. I guess it is holiday season.

The response has been mixed on Facebook. Lots of concern as to why "data may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies" is needed now but also lots of apathy around 'everything is tracked anyway, who cares'.

It's actually very true. Everything is tracked. What apps we use on our device for making music is a lot less privacy invasive than our online activity if you ask me.

However, having been exposed to the technical side, and having seen the extent to which all these bits of anonymous data are compiled and cross-referenced, we truly are all far more compromised than we think. It's virtually guaranteed that there is some bit of non anonymous data out there that can be correlated into a profile that's anything but anonymous.

That's why, when I see an opportunity to minimize my footprint, I do. That's why all these apps are now offloaded on my devices. Will it change anything? Probably not. But to me there's no sense in making life easier for the people that specialize in this stuff.

  • Deleted the apps and won’t buy from the company. Might not be a huge issue but there are enough high quality apps that don’t track me for me to care about the $20 I dropped on these.

I’d also rather not encourage trackers in synths/romplers.

New Audiobus subscription added as IAP now?

@Audiobus_support it would be really good if you could check in and let us know what the latest is with this legendary app!

At first I thought you were joking. But ... omg ... you're right.
They've gone lost their minds. 😂

(just kidding. If they think they can make money that way, I wish them success.)

  • Uninstalling

Very cunning - making the app "subscription" has diverted everyone's attention from the "tracking" issue.

  • RIP Audiobus.

The real question is: What's the difference between Weekly premium and Weekly premium? 🤔

  • For those that have it, 1Blocker has improved their tracker blocking in v6 to include in-app blocking on iOS.

Note that they went subscription quite a while ago now, though provided previous purchasers with a very generous lifetime upgrade discount. Great dev, worth a look if one is so inclined.

    Hi,
Thank you for bringing up this topic.
To clarify, Audiobus only tracks a unique ID that is not linked to the personal identity of the user.
This tracking is solely for purposes like improving app functionality and ensuring a better user experience.

    Sorry, but this is bs....

You don't need nothing like that for improving the App functionality!
And you simply CANNOT ensure a better user experience.

You can only enhance the App, it's features and it's UI - and MAYBE this will result in a better user experience.

But adding subscriptions did break the egg for me.

Let me clarify: I have nothing against developers making a buck from their Apps, but to do this responsible and so that both developer and users benefit, have a look at the Loopy Pro licensing!

To summarize: What and how you did to the AudioBus App was the worst way you could choose.
I assume that nothing will chance and in this light, I need to uninstall the App - which I loved for many years!

I would be curious how much you paid @Michael for the App and wether the community would have been a better buyer.
Anyways, I will reinstall an old version of AudioBus so that you will not get any data from me - skipping the update will be hard, as I know from past experience.

That was a suspicious statement from the start. There are two types of trackers in the app. The first is private to the developer and is completely sufficient for the uses stated. What they didn't address is the 3rd party capable tracker, which makes it possible to sell your usage data to other parties.

But adding subscriptions did brake the egg for me.

Same. Anyone who wants a subscription needs to show a track record of adding features that justify it. So far the only enhancements have been to add the 3rd party tracker and "bug fixes".

It's a shame because I used to recommend Audiobus all the time as a midi clock to Link bridge and as a really simple and distraction free host. Then I had to add mention of the trackers. Now I can't recommend it at all.

But, I assume they've thought this through and figure there will be enough residual users who don't want to switch or don't know of alternatives, to provide a return on their investment.

  • Well, that’s me out, just deleted it.

I’ve not used it for a while, but kept it around in case I needed it for something like MIDI clock to Link. It’s a shame because it was the app that showed me a new direction in the gap after NS1 wouldn’t work on new devices.

    Sad end.
