It’s an AUV3 host but is it an AUV3 plugin too ? It seems so when reading the description but not that clear

I don't think it's a plugin, would be awesome if it was

GR-16 can be used in other hosts as an AU. I’d guess GR-II will be the same. But since it’s also a AU host now, you wouldn’t be able host other AUs in it when you’re using it as an AU in another host. Just like Drambo, Loopy Pro, etc..

  • I noticed the keyboard section has a “Chord” button. Any details on that? Will it be the same chord transposed, or something more in depth like custom chord pads?

Is there anything in there that indicates it will record audio (preferably into the song)? For AU$60 I hope so.

    No audio recording.

    it says the sampler records

But will it record during song playback creating the ability to be in time with the song?

I wish Jim would do some deep-dive tutorial videos like what 4Pockets did with MidiStep. Right now we're basing our decision to pre-order solely on his track record of previous apps. In this case we're trying to make the decision if we're going to make a change our entire music-creation workflow around an app that we know little about right now. Would you buy a bed without first lying on the matress, or a car without a test drive?

The last, very cheap mattress that I bought, was about $300, bought without laying on it. Still holding strong happily snoozing on it 5 years later. The first car many buy is over $2000, and test drives won't show everything in lots of lemons...this is $30 for fun or potential creative expansion..

..I agree with your principal here but this is more like crying that your food isn't perfect while you're out at dinner; while getting ready to propose. You got a couple weeks for him to release any tutorial materials, too. :)

You are well wide of the mark here I think and quite patronising to boot. It sounds like you re someone who is not short of cash.
People are indicating that things are a bit tight and every dollar counts at the moment, you don’t seem to have picked up on this. Making a major purchase like a car without doing everything you reasonably can to check it out is not the advice that any sensible person would give. Have you ever heard the expression ‘pig in a poke”?
I’m making the assumption that you are in the position where you can eat out when the fancy takes you, but despite this I find your dining out analogy is quite spurious bordering on ridiculous.
    The OP is spot on.

I do not have money, a typical 9-5 job, or a car. I’m very short of cash. I do have shame for feeling the need to state it though. I value my money very much when I have it and I make careful considerations before I buy things. I dine out maybe three-four times a year.

This is not a major purchase like a car.

You had no ‘need’ to state anything about your personal finances, nobody does - I don’t know why you would think otherwise. You could easily state your case without doing this. Any shame that you are feeling or any need to disclose your affairs is entirely self conceived, not that anyone should be equating their own self worth with the amount of cash they have anyway.

I find it bizarre that you are promoting the idea of spending money blindly yet say you are ‘very short of cash’ - often people who are in this position need to make $30 go a long way. I just find the whole approach contradictory.

Anyway let’s not muddy the waters here, it’s not really a big deal at the end of the day. I hope you get the app and make the very best of it. I’m sure it will turn out to be money well spent. We’re all exited about seeing what it can produce ✌️

@ChimmyChungaFace GR-16 has chords too. They are chord pads and you have a choice of 5 different chord sets in the pattern settings along with the scale.

Not sure if it’ll be the same in GR-II though.

Sorry if I missed it but what’s the point of preordering?

According to Jim Audio Facebook post the pre-order is a $5 discount

Interesting. Wow. That’s pretty expensive for an iPad app. Is there any precedent for this cost? Maybe trying to set one?

You apparently were not around for Different Drummer when it launched for something like $150!

  • A lot of less expensive apps make up for it with IAP. For example, Korg Gadget can get pretty expensive ($100+) if you buy all the gadgets.

Yes, GR-16 has IAP as well but those are patterns and have nothing to do with the functionality of the app.

  • I am a little chagrined that it's iPad only and iOS 16 and above, so my perfectly fine 2017 iPad Pro won't be able to run it, alas.

  • Pre ordered ♥️

  • Me too. I haven’t preordered an app since, I think, NS2.

I shall purchase this app, perhaps it is the one that will rekindle my love of making music. Yes, I said the same when I purchased the other 333 AUv3s in my collection. No, they didn't quite do the trick, but there's no reason this couldn't be The One!

Ha ha ha ha ha !!!

It was indeed a belter. This one needs framed.

  • It’s rekindled my exploration with Poison202. Forgot about that app. Very nice sounding synth.

  • OK, haven’t read this thread for some days and now have to start my iPad up and go to the App Store…

Daydreaming about the elaborate Grooverider 2 multi-out session I’m gonna wire up in Drambo.

I didn’t see it mentioned, but GR16 has multi-outs, so I’m assuming we’ll have all that and more with the new app.

Or just Drambo inside Grooverider 2

  • Oh wait, can we run Grooverider 2 in Grooverider 2???!

  • Interesting reading the article. I though Poison and Pure Acid came as integrated in GR2?

Preordered. Solid buy for me. This app looks loaded with goodies, and at the moment it's got me intrigued with the drum rack mode that is shown in the video. I'm trying to create some custom drum mappings for BeatHawk drum kits, with a workflow that allows custom drum names (Kick, Snare, Splash, Sizzle, etc.), a grid, some controls and song mode, independent playback speed per lane, and a way to share the presets out to other users. Every app I've tried so far has some sort of limitation - Octachron, Digistix 2, Playbeat 3, Logic Pro - that makes it less than ideal for what I want to do. I'll find out if GR2 can do what I want, but after pulling out GrooveRider again, I'm at a point where I really appreciate the design and the workflow of GR2, which is actually quite innovative, and the graphics are eye candy, with GR2 looking even better. I've got to see what it can do with the drums. This is reason #1 of many in my list.

**Edit: Correction - Typo - there is no GR3!

I mean you left out a massive part of my previous comment that I chose to just forget about. The context is lost with your statement quoting half of what I said.

Uhm, sorry, this was not just about your particular post, sorry it probably looked like that, it was more like general comment to price-related criticism .. Nothing in person agains you or anybody else here ! We're just shooting random thoughts..

I doubt I would call any invention about capitalism “amazing”

:-) Matter of subjective experience, I absolutely love western liberal democracy and capitalism, best system of rules for coexistence of people as society we ever invented .. Not ideal, it has some flaws of course, i have no idea how to improve it - but what i know is - everything else we ever tried is just waay much worse I am from country which was plundered by socialists / communists for 40 years (under heavy influence of russians), so this deep love to liberal democracy and capitalism is deeply rooted in my worldview, will fight for it till my last breath

It's interesting topic, i do not want to create too much offtopic here, if anybody interested in ideas and views exchange, feel free to create thread in Other/ to add a but of controversy

Also what is this “reasonable” quote you did for my comment. Hadn’t used that word once. If “reasonable” was meant as an inference than you should have put that and not misquote me.

Again.. your post just pointed me to direction of thinking which i often see here at this forum, it was mistake to use quote of part of your text, sorry for that, hope we are good.

Has Jim stated if there is support for AUv3 MIDI plugins?

definitely yes – this is mentioned on one of the preview screenshots on AppStore:
    „Supports AUv3 instriments, AUv3 FX & MIDI FX“

  • Is it cheaper via preorder ? Doesn’t seem to be

Even more to the point there is a direct integration for a better-than-AUv3 experience (and I’d assume more efficient).

    Even better indeed! Thanks

  • Is Poison-202 still well regarded? I don't have it.
