Is Poison-202 still well regarded? I don't have it.

I like Poison-202. An example of efficient and high quality coding: Great sound and still very low CPU usage. And one of the few apps that can run on iOS 10.

  • This article was definitely worth the read, and answered some of the questions I've seen come up (e.g. there's a scale lock on the midi editor).

Is it cheaper via preorder ? Doesn’t seem to be

    $5 off.

    Thanks!

  • So, no new videos? Jim said it may be ready before Feb 1st, once there is a ‘working’ version..

Genuinely curious - other than the built-in wavetable synth and SF2 functionality, is there anything that this app can do that the upcoming Loopy Pro 2 with midi functionality cant?

it's a very opinionated synth, that makes it very efficient for programming. It's super solid and has a very digital sound. It's an excellent synth.

  • The old GR manual had 37 pages (https://www.jimaudio.pro/grooverider/grooverider_manual.pdf) I hope Jim publish the new one soon

  • This is almost an instabuy…
    I will probably buy it….
But I am also wondering what it may have, other than a serum wavetable loading synth (i have thousands of serum wavetables) that could possibly make it a platform over Logic Pro Mobile? Hmmmm. I’m probably buying it for the wavetable synth alone actually.

Seems like the general promise of a groovebox over a DAW is a more "immediate" workflow, so that's something I'll be paying attention to. Is it easy to template, so I can get a session going quickly and capture a passing idea? That's an area where Logic (in my opinion) is not particularly strong, mainly because it doesn't have robust template functionality. It looks from the videos like GR II will try to keep things like instrument and effect knobs exposed and accessible so you can jump around between tracks and make quick adjustments in a way that might be hard with Logic. Drambo or BAM could give you an idea of what I mean there, where the pads jump between tracks and you see the stack of instruments and effects immediately. Additionally, follow actions in the session view offer a possible way to build tracks without using a timeline, and I don't think Logic does that. Might be particularly interesting for more ambient works and/or more generative works.

Mainly though, overall I expect GR II to be "faster" in the sense of less time from program launch to "finished" idea than when working in a more traditional DAW.

I shall purchase this app, perhaps it is the one that will rekindle my love of making music. Yes, I said the same when I purchased the other 333 AUv3s in my collection. No, they didn't quite do the trick, but there's no reason this couldn't be The One!

I am you and you are me!

Yes. Great sound and super efficient.

    It’s like GR 1.5 🤣

I actually prefer grooveboxes without auv3 because that gives us instant project preview/loading/switching

I’m in the same boat. I still use GR-16 and Gadget because I love the focus and challenge of a self-contained groove box.
I don’t see it as a negative with GR 2 though — it’s still organized like a groove box and has all the self-contained tools you need to get the job done without external tools. We can just NOT load plugins in our projects or create a separate project folder for standalone-only projects.

It’s got that unabashedly sharp/harsh digital sound ..kind of like hydrasynth, in that it doesn’t try to be a VA. I honestly didn’t take to it at first, but I grew to appreciate it more after spending so much time designing sounds in GR-16, which is a very similar sound to Poison.

    Pre Release?

  • Pre Release?

    Pre-order I mean. Brain fart ;)

  • I'm giving myself an in-the-box-only respect challenge with this one.

Just GR2 native stuff, Pure Acid and Poison-202 :dizzy:

exactly that’s my main expectations too .. UI looks like well fine tuned for fast smooth stresmlined workflow …

From hardware world, what Poison reminds me most (not just by UI layout and general synth posibilities, but also by sound) is Roland System-1 ... i am suspicious that took inspiration from this one :)

    exactly.
also, grooveboxes are in general better for performing live.

  • Closest thing to hardware on iOS or maybe even desktop for that matter..
