AUM 1.4.6 is out!

Long list of updates and fixes.

I’d copy and paste them here, except that the App Store doesn’t seem to allow copying the text.

For me the top new features are the ability to record tails, and the clock dividers. But there’s a lot in this update.

  • what keeps me from updating for now is "asking before eject node". feels like a lot more tapping to do to me. is that right? (to the updaters)

@nuno_agogo You can turn this off in global settings

  • From app store:

    1.4.6
    Dec 22, 2024

    NEWS:

    • Add AUv3 clock divider/multiplier setting.

    • Plugin window modes: Default, Custom, Maximized, Fullscreen.

    • Swipe from top screen edge to exit plugin Fullscreen mode.

    • Add the 'Navigator', a list of all channels and nodes for quick navigation and showing/hiding plugins.

    • Swipe from right screen edge while plugin is maximized/fullscreened to show Navigator.

    • Move Bookmarks into Navigator.

    • Snap plugin window to screen edges when moving/resizing.

    • Add plugin window grid snap, enable it in the settings menu.

    • Add tail-recording: tapping pause will continue recording until you tap REC.

    • Enable Apples system-provided Audio Units on iOS 13 or later.

    • Change 'Show Plugin' to new 'Show / Hide Plugin' toggle action.

    • Add 'Show & Front Plugin' action that always shows the plugin.

    • Add RELOAD in node long-press menu. Reloads the node, preserving state.

    • Ask before ejecting node.

    • Add 'Reset Help Hints' in settings menu.

    • Add app icon long-press shortcuts: Restore Windows, Open Default Session, Open Last State.

    • Tap AUM background to bring keyboard focus back to AUM. (AUv3 plugins will take keyboard focus when touched).

    • Change tap-tempo keyboard shortcut from § to T.

    • Add MMC Pause command support.

    • Show alert when invalid filename characters has been replaced.

    • Channel record time display is now in min:sec format.

    • Try to Trash deleted sessions instead of actually deleting them.

    • Update users guide.

    • Fix initial silent gap when starting recording from stopped state.

    • Fix intro logo jump when status bar is shown.

    • Fix REC button flashing when loading project while transport playing.

    • Fix node slot load-animation glitch on iOS 17+

    • Improve consistency of close-buttons on iPhone.

    • Don't allow dragging plugin window if touch is inside plugin UI.

    • Fix empty plugin window if plugin is closed and re-opened before dismiss animation finished.

Eject node isn't something one would do often, is it? Eject isn't the same as bypass, it's completely removing the node and all the routing. One additional tap during that relatively rare operation seems a very sensible alternative to accidentally having to nearly start over on a channel.

I think most people would be going for Replace with the long press and would appreciate it if their finger slipped and they ejected the node by accident.

  • Show & front - does that just:

    • open (if closed) and bring front or
    • just bring to the front if already open instead of hiding?

So, with one click you can always bring a plugin to front instead of having to toggle?

Navigator seems like a great addition.

  • This is exactly the kind of mobility update that I was looking for, thanks for the amazing update. Best AuV3 full screen mode around now :)

  • Nice! Thank you.

  • Fantastic news

  • It's a great update @j_liljedahl but I for one would omit all of it: in exchange for never seeing this (fresh screenshot) again.

I have an iPad Pro M1 with 16Gb ram and I really want to use those powers but in AUM it takes stop pretty fast (yes, I do load a lot of stuff😅😅) compared to what I can load in e.g Logic for iPad. Well, I can only hope then; that the next update will focus on the engine.

  • Can you resize the little built in keyboard? Make it taller ?

  • Firing up the iPad right now!

You can switch that off in the settings menu.

  • great update except this - Enable Apples system-provided Audio Units on iOS 13 or later. I spend a lot of time sorting apps and plugins to get what I want, what if I don't want to use, or see, these?

  • Amazing update @j_liljedahl !! I know how much time and effort went into this 👍

The clock divider/multiplier opens up so many more sequencing options.

    No.

I wish we could make it float around like an auv3 or run it vertically! I’m weird

  • I can’t make the windows snap to screen edges when dragging. What am I doing wrong?

  • Works for me @mistercharlie , I drag and just let go when the window edge is anywhere within about half a centimetre of the screen edge.

Fullscreen mode, Navigator and tails recording are a godsend.
Can someone explain where the clock divider setting is?
Edit, just found gear icon in MIDI Controls, silly me )

  • Navigator, set the sails for a better future. 🤩 @j_liljedahl, Congratulations on the fantastic new update!

This year has brought many great updates and new apps to the platform. However, what pleases me most is that Jonathan continues to work on the AUM. 😌

Did you try KB-1 for that purpose? It works perfectly for me. This AUM internal version is really simple, designed to be handy for quick tasks. In this update, it’s also available in fullscreen mode.

Great, now you sparked my curiosity. 🫣 What does your project look like?

Oh it's not project but projects (usually drony, glitchy stuff), plenty of them where I get to a point where it starts to crackle I get so disappointed or even mad I just shut it down.
Most of the time it's solvable by going up to 2048 buffer but forget about any live input then.
Now my friend: this doesn't mean that any single one of those projects was worth listening to or keep working on, but I would have liked to get the chance to do so.😇😃

  • Great update, the only thing that bugs me is using landscape on iPhone where maximising a plug covers the transport controls.

  • So, this version is more CPU intensive? Worse for older iPads?

Where did you get that information? It’s the same as it was, at least in my testings.

Oh, I’m dancing on my device limits all the time, 🤭 using every trick that I can to minimize CPU usage. Live performance input can be tricky, I admit, you can’t just bounce things there. BTW, your music is fantastic to me, 🤩 especially fractal-related.
