If you do not do this you’ll only hear one sample at a time. Even if the sample is just empty space from the tail its going to over ride, it basically changes it from monophonic to polyphonic

Older hardware midi devices I guess… maybe older apps as @Phil999 mentioned. If you check the description it is actually made for syncing midi hardware, but also works with apps.
