• added LUFS level indicator on the main page;
• added song time indicator for the Song mode in the top title bar;
• added new "Save Pattern" shortcut button, which is now accessible on any screen from the top title bar (the "disc" icon); its brightness depends on how many unsaved changes you have made to the pattern;
• added a "song loop on" indicator icon in the top title bar when in the Song mode;
• pattern's AUv3 mark in the title bar is moved to the left side of the bar under the CPU meter;
• Undo while recording (Song mode): now tapping Undo will not stop the record;
• global Metronome setting is split into 2 new separate independent settings: Click (Off, REC, Always On) and Rec Precount (Off, 1 Bar, 2 Bars);
• fixed: built-in synths were not reacting to midi pitch bend events, generated by Midi FX units;
• several fixes in the Sample Editor, when selection/slice locators were sometimes reset during undo, edit or record;
• other minor bug fixes.

I can find little reason to do so, but just to satisfy my curiosity, I explored ways to integrate Loopy Pro AUv3 into GR-2. I found the workflow somewhat clunky, but could see some potential in it.

I sacrificed one of the FX returns and put Loopy Pro in the first slot. Then to capture a part's output to a loop I just change the destination for that track from MFX1 to FX B. The sticky part once it's recorded, you need to either stop the loop or mute the original part to avoid doubling up sound.

All that navigation is a bit clunky, for little benefit, but it does work. The advantage of doing it that way vs. using GR-2 as an IAA input to Loopy Pro is the Loopy Pro session is saved in the GR-2 pattern, whereas there's no state saving for GR-2 as an IAA in Loopy Pro.

Of course, now that we have transport linked sampling in GR-2, there's even less utility of using Loopy in GR-2.

Anyway, that's my science experiment of the day.

GR2 is no longer a groovebox wanna be app. I have no idea why people still calling it the best groovebox on iOS. GR-16 still hold that title comparing with "hardware" groovebox. GR2 is a full featured music production app, way way beyond all the hardware grooveboxes COMBINED.

I guess for the same reason why Loopy Pro often is also referred to as a DAW, even though it has no automation. I don’t know and don’t care anymore. There are too many options nowadays for both HW and SW to try and pigeon hole them into a neat category, especially with the tech allowing for more hybrid-crossover type stuff. Seems futile and irrelevant anymore.

I am glad someone else said it. This is more than a groovebox, it’s borderline full fledged DAW, besides definitely being a DAW lite without a doubt, with full hardware and software (albeit selective) support. It takes iOS production to another level, it stands alone , honestly.

They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse: on the launchpad pro mk3…i had to least see what it was about since i use GR2 almost two hours a day….lets just say if it doesn’t work out for me, I’ll let it go for half of a new one to the first person who asks me when it goes up for sale….

Launchpad is great and I always like similar style hardwares. Just I will not pair a hardware as the main controller to a software host because the pace of GR2 development will eventually outgrow the hardware, by far. I would rather just use GR2 on iPad and pair with a controller for real knobs, faders and pads

U will be fine as Launchpad has been tested by Ableton Live users. My point is no hardware device keeps up with app development, especially highly visual oriented apps like GR2. But I do agree Launchpad itself is a giant touch surface too which should be your best bet.

Edit: Another reason why I use midi controller apps. Keep only 1 7 string classical guitar and 1 5 string bass.

i guess the answer is yes.
most of additional Pro buttons are used, so on cheaper models some functions are going to be available via cryptic shortcuts that you'll have to learn, and some functions might be not available at all.

as for me, i'm going to use LP Mini in live situation because a physical clip launcher is all i need when playing a gig.
but at home my choice is definitely LP Pro since it can handle a lot of editing operations – and that's faster and more convenient comparing to a touchscreen.

Surely yes if you really want to touch the LPP instead of the iPad, not so if you use the LPX/m as an extension or "dual screen" of GR2

edit: imagine u use 2 LP mini with GR2, it will be fairly sick
