    OT question: What is that "cool step sequencer" your are using on Linux ?

    B-Step.
    old but gold.
    i got it back in the days when it was paid, and btw it supports mk2 line of Launchpads.

    Oh yes, it's now managed by the surge team. I will give it a try. But before heading off too far - let me get back to GR2....

    Nice! A couple of the complaints discussed recently here put to rest, plus a lot of other nice goodies:
    Big thanks Jim Pavlov! If you’re lurking out there. 😉

    • Midi Output / Virtual Midi Output ports added (disabled by default);
    • Midi Channel parameter added for each Part, accessible from the Part Parameters page. It is used during the Midi Input and Midi Output;
    • added Relative Midi knobs support;
    • added Last Touched Knob Control feature, which allows you to control knobs with a single assigned midi CC: you first touch the desired knob on the screen and then turn your midi controller knob to tweak it. This feature is off by default and needs to be activated from Settings -> Midi -> Midi CC Control menu -> Last Knob Control;
    • Ableton Link updated to support Start/Stop feature (disabled by default);
    • Settings Page: various synchronization settings were moved into a separate SYNC menu;
    • added sample recording Sync function, which allows you to snap start/stop of the audio recording to the beat or bar, allowing to record perfect loops on the fly. It is off by default and is located in the Settings -> Sync -> Sample Editor -> Record Sync;
    • new mixer-related knobs design for better clarity;
    • oscillogram visualizer: added plus / minus buttons to change wave zoom factor;
    • added LUFS level indicator on the main page;
    • added song time indicator for the Song mode in the top title bar;
    • added new "Save Pattern" shortcut button, which is now accessible on any screen from the top title bar (the "disc" icon); its brightness depends on how many unsaved changes you have made to the pattern;
    • added a "song loop on" indicator icon in the top title bar when in the Song mode;
    • pattern's AUv3 mark in the title bar is moved to the left side of the bar under the CPU meter;
    • Undo while recording (Song mode): now tapping Undo will not stop the record;
    • global Metronome setting is split into 2 new separate independent settings: Click (Off, REC, Always On) and Rec Precount (Off, 1 Bar, 2 Bars);
    • fixed: built-in synths were not reacting to midi pitch bend events, generated by Midi FX units;
    • several fixes in the Sample Editor, when selection/slice locators were sometimes reset during undo, edit or record;
    • other minor bug fixes.

    🤯

  • I can find little reason to do so, but just to satisfy my curiosity, I explored ways to integrate Loopy Pro AUv3 into GR-2. I found the workflow somewhat clunky, but could see some potential in it.

    I sacrificed one of the FX returns and put Loopy Pro in the first slot. Then to capture a part's output to a loop I just change the destination for that track from MFX1 to FX B. The sticky part once it's recorded, you need to either stop the loop or mute the original part to avoid doubling up sound.

    All that navigation is a bit clunky, for little benefit, but it does work. The advantage of doing it that way vs. using GR-2 as an IAA input to Loopy Pro is the Loopy Pro session is saved in the GR-2 pattern, whereas there's no state saving for GR-2 as an IAA in Loopy Pro.

    Of course, now that we have transport linked sampling in GR-2, there's even less utility of using Loopy in GR-2.

    Anyway, that's my science experiment of the day.

    90% of my time on the iPad. I tell myself I’ll find use cases for my wacky setups but let’s be real I’m just addicted to signal routing and fx chains.

    Could be worse. You could spend days and days writing dozens of Mozaic scripts you never use.
    I know someone like that.🙄

    GR2 is no longer a groovebox wanna be app. I have no idea why people still calling it the best groovebox on iOS. GR-16 still hold that title comparing with "hardware" groovebox. GR2 is a full featured music production app, way way beyond all the hardware grooveboxes COMBINED.

    I guess for the same reason why Loopy Pro often is also referred to as a DAW, even though it has no automation. I don’t know and don’t care anymore. There are too many options nowadays for both HW and SW to try and pigeon hole them into a neat category, especially with the tech allowing for more hybrid-crossover type stuff. Seems futile and irrelevant anymore.

    Am I going mad or is there no reverb in the insert fx? 7 phasers and no reverb seems an odd choice.

    I talked about this and jim added just one reverb and only in the drum channels, I have no idea why we can't have reverbs on the IFX, but there might be a reason

    The sampler sync to transport is great. That’s going to be a huge timesaver for me.

    yeah, very useful

    I am glad someone else said it. This is more than a groovebox, it’s borderline full fledged DAW, besides definitely being a DAW lite without a doubt, with full hardware and software (albeit selective) support. It takes iOS production to another level, it stands alone , honestly.

    They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse: on the launchpad pro mk3…i had to least see what it was about since i use GR2 almost two hours a day….lets just say if it doesn’t work out for me, I’ll let it go for half of a new one to the first person who asks me when it goes up for sale….

    Launchpad is great and I always like similar style hardwares. Just I will not pair a hardware as the main controller to a software host because the pace of GR2 development will eventually outgrow the hardware, by far. I would rather just use GR2 on iPad and pair with a controller for real knobs, faders and pads

    Total impulse. I was so excited about the integration of pure acid and poison 202 that I wanted to try this for the deal I got (for $400 regular price no way I would’ve done it but since I have no idea what it does, I’m excited to be surprised - if it’s not useful I can return or sell ) just for the fact it was made to work with the app specially … if it isn’t worth it, ILL know soon

    This is what happens when you got no new guitars to lust after.
    (Or is it that the wife may not notice another electronic thingy, where there's no way she'd not notice another new guitar?)

    U will be fine as Launchpad has been tested by Ableton Live users. My point is no hardware device keeps up with app development, especially highly visual oriented apps like GR2. But I do agree Launchpad itself is a giant touch surface too which should be your best bet.

    She will never notice another new app wahaha

    Edit: Another reason why I use midi controller apps. Keep only 1 7 string classical guitar and 1 5 string bass.

    i've just sent my Launchpad X and Launchpad Mini mk3 to the developer.
    so i guess we can expect these two supported in some reasonable future.

    NICE!! Yes, he had responded to me regarding the LP X, but i was unwilling to part with it. Way to take one for the team!

    After experiencing QWERTY Keyboard on Koala, I quite like it and I hope every app will support it

  • @yellow_eyez said:
    Oh he’s supporting the $99 mini! I could’ve gotten that for $100 new…darn it impulsivity…Well; I can always return it.

    I wonder if there’s any advantage in keeping the pro over the X or the mini?

    i guess the answer is yes.
    most of additional Pro buttons are used, so on cheaper models some functions are going to be available via cryptic shortcuts that you'll have to learn, and some functions might be not available at all.

  • as for me, i'm going to use LP Mini in live situation because a physical clip launcher is all i need when playing a gig.
    but at home my choice is definitely LP Pro since it can handle a lot of editing operations – and that's faster and more convenient comparing to a touchscreen.

  • yeah, size does matter.
    that's why i prefer to have all of them :D

    Surely yes if you really want to touch the LPP instead of the iPad, not so if you use the LPX/m as an extension or "dual screen" of GR2

    edit: imagine u use 2 LP mini with GR2, it will be fairly sick

  • official manual is updated to current version (1.1.2), including new chapter about Launchpad integration.
    (also confirming that currently only Launchpad Pro Mk3 is supported)

    the answer was that it's more complicated than it seems.

    Feck. This means the Stockholm Rex player plugin is useless to me.
