It's still a crying shame that this never got audio tracks, as I'm firmly of the belief it could have transformed the app's commercial fortunes, but NS2 is still superb. I would love for the Obsidian synth to get an AUv3 version one day, as it's excellent.
Thank u, a much appreciated tip. 🤙🏼
Anyone having the same problem: When I tap on “Store” to have a look ar the IAPs I only see a “No Items Found” message and no means to trigger a refresh.
Is it just a free, all inclusive right now?
think so.. im at work .. can't investigate
Yes, it happens to me too. I saw someone with the same problem over at NanoStudio’s forum.
Edit: seems to be only in case you hadn’t installed the packs yet, which was the case on my iPhone. I checked on my iPad and the packs I had bought are still working.
No reason for folks not to try it now. But it makes me wonder why Matt made it free. 😬 Hopefully NS2 continues to live on.
Didn’t I hear somewhere that there was a workaround with an auv3 that plays audio based on NS’s playback position?
you could use Helium or Loopy inside NS2 to get audio tracks. Or if you're using loops, it's quick & easy to import them into a Slate drum kit and trigger.
You can’t record the tracks in NS2. Loopy Pro (or other audio recorder) needs to be loaded as a standalone and synched with nanostudio. After you have recorded the audio in the standalone, you could load the Loopy Pro AU on NS2 for playback.
I think you mean MultiTrack Recorder. Helium is for midi.
It does work, but just as with Loopy, you have to record the audio outside of NS2 in standalone, before you can use it in the plugin inside NS2.

"The app is being sunset"
It's interesting that Matt chose to shut down the app instead of trying to sell it to another developer. I guess there just aren’t many buyers for unprofitable apps, especially after the AudioBus fiasco.
Ironically, it’s one of the very few apps for which I actually might have considered paying a subscription.
If at all possible, get ahold of a PC or Mac and back the NS2 app with the free or paid version of iMazing in case Matt tires of keeping up with the $99 per year to keep it on the App Store. I don’t really think he’d do that, but having a backup is worth the effort.
Weirdly there are no IAPs showing up at all in NanoStudio, not even the ones I already owned.
Ahh NanoStudio, you were my first iPad love and still a great and fluid daw (yes sans audio… I know, I know).
Maybe a perfect app for the open sourcing thing to happen to, seems like there’s a ready built community that would rally round to support maintenance and even development…
Always frustrated me, this one. If audio tracks and editing had been added, there was huge potential to rival Auria and Cubasis, and the UI would have made it my go-to iOS DAW. Unfortunately as a mostly-audio based audio dabbler, though admired for what it did do, it never totally clicked.
I sometimes wish iOS developers would pool their resources for bigger joint projects, instead of the constant production of ‘nearly there’ beatboxes that inevitably get abandoned when the next one comes along. I should know - I’ve got folders full of ‘em!
I guess that’s why we now have Logic Pro, with Apple finally acknowledging the gap in the market.

Brilliant interface, especially on iPhone where it was unparalleled. Great synth too.
Would love to see a handheld hardware version, a la the M8 from Dirtywave. Wouldn't have to be concerned with updates, being free from the Apple chains. Could probably make a nice chunk of change if done right.
Chronicle of a Death Foretold
...shit. I had a feeling this was going to happen someday despite Matt saying he'd keep it maintained. 😮💨 Why do you think I kept bouncing around between other DAWs throughout last year (besides to challenge my own creativity)? I was searching for a new "home" in case this happened, especially since I relied on NS2 for doing client work. (Glad I finally landed on Cubasis 3.)
That said I'm thankful to Matt for NS2. It was fun while it lasted.
Lack of audio tracks wasn’t ever that big deal to me. To me NS2 is basically the world’s greatest MIDI sequencer, with some bonus synth/Auv3 action thrown in.
Just hope the current version keeps working for a good long time. Might be time to stop updating this iPad… 😬
Just loaded NS2 on a new ipad to see if the IAPs could be restored. Nope. And when I tapped on a drum pad in Slate there was an appalling digital noise. It was VERY loud. For the moment I've deleted it.
The trick to restore the IAPSs is to re-install the app. Do not Restore Purchases, then buy each of the previous IAPs, which will be free because they're already bought. However, I no longer see any unbought IAPs, so that may no longer work.
Same problem here. There were no IAPs to "buy". The store is empty.
Yeah great and looks like IAPs are not available anymore… so I bought the app and most of the IAPs and now what? by any means it doesn’t feel right. Jailbraiking a device to get an app you paid for also doesn’t feel right…
The IAPs seem to be back now and all free as mentioned
Excellent! Get 'em while they're hot! But this is likely the last chance. They won't likely be available on our next new device.
I've been dreading this. I wish the app would have made money for the developer and gotten audio and automation for au. I would have loved to see Obsidian ported as an AU also. NS1 is why I'm into iOS music stuff. With out Blip Interactive iOS and I would've been two ships in the night sailing by each other, never to meet...
