  • I imagine the icon will always say "free".. Just like even if you buy irig midi it will keep adevertising it to you forever. :-)

  • Ok, I'm the bad guy now. Lol. Sounds like you're happy about the purchase though. I always blame AkaMarko. He started my addiction with Sampletank with that YouRockGuitar/Sampletank video. @Ryan I recall buying a app you endorsed.

  • lesson learned i guess..

It does sound really really nice though, the basses are especially thick.

    Just needs Audiobus now...

  • I'm hoping the reason IK dropped the price is because of a soon coming release of AB update.

  • Let's hope so!

Yeah the free label will never go away, a d as Ryan said nor will the ads..but I do love this app and all it's sounds..now lets looks at iGrand and iElectric for the best piano sample in the world and a joint cost of..............£41.96...IK aint cheap and I know that all their key apps are coming on the Bus..you can get a free version of iGrand that have some very nice pianos....

@thesoundtestroom "now lets looks at iGrand and iElectric for the best piano sample in the world..." That can't be what you meant to say. Even on iOS I find iGrand to not stand out, i don't find them much better then garagebands pianos, if at all. But it's no where's near the "best in the world" in my opinion. "the Grand" by steinburg is one of if no the best sounding virtual pianos I have ever heard. It's far beyond anything on iOS. :-)

EDIT: Fully aware that iGrand could be much better then i think. I have the free version with the extra instruments for "registering".. I played with them for a few hours and then gave up and went back to GB. If you really think it's that good @thesoundtestroom I might have to try it again. I have a lot of faith in your opinion. :-)

And @mgmg4871 I wasn't saying it's a bad thing. The only thing i bought cause of you that i didn't like was PPG wavemapper. First it was the lack of a sequencer and now it's that the sounds kind of don't sound very good, kinda gnarled and that it crashes if i play anything at even a moderate speed. With a little tweaking i can get it to almost stop crashing but at a big hit to the already substandard sound quality. IT's a shame cause the app itself is brilliant. Anyhow, I just think for all the money you make the devs they could do something for you, if even just a pat on the back :-) Out of curiosity, what app did I recommend to you? I'm drawing a blank, I can't think of pushing much of anything.. maybe cantor. :-)

Be curious to see what this is like, certainly not so well loved in the German app store (free is 3 stars after 45 reviews, paid is 3.5 after 38 ratings (2.5 for current version after 3 ratings)).

And yes this forum is turning out to be expensive (Audiobus, Sunrizer, DM1, Loopy HD, ThumbJam) with no end in sight!

  • @Ryan I didn't take it as a bad thing. Just kidding. I got really thick skin and hard to offend. I grew up with 10 brothers and 6 sisters. Lol. Any sign of thin skin and you we're lunch. It was Guitarism that you got me excited about, but no regrets, I love that app. There I go again pushing apps. I haven't had those issues with WaveMapper.

  • @Ryan I had the free version and deleted, more because of space..I may have been a touch OTT, but I did like them..you are right GB does have some very nice sounds..maybe I should do some sort of Piano App comparison video or something..I'm sensing your not to keen on the IK Apps..the ads bug me too but the sound quality for ios is good..I think the easiest thing to do would be upload a soundcloud track with various piano samples from ios stuff...

  • @tarasis and those are pretty cheap apps that you mentioned. Just you wait! lol :-)

@thesoundtestroom I loaded up iGrand and was playing around to try to remember why I didn't like it. Two things came up immediately.. One being that when I have the release on and play any series of notes and let them ring out, it goes into a quiet split second reverb loop that seems to be infinite. Secondly if I turn off release every single note clicks. Does this happen for you guys? Know how to fix it? Cause honestly the actual sounds are much better then i remember. lol Also did you notice if sampletank was open that iGrand has no sound? It happened for me a couple times..

and yeah, IK does bug me. It makes me feel bad cause i really like most of what the devs do but it gets ruined with marketing strategy. It's kind of like if you bought a new amplifier from Peavey and everytime you turned it on it said "Buy Peavey Amps, Buy Peavey Amps, Have you tried Peavey Amps?" till you pressed a series of buttons to make it stop and begin making music. It's almost insulting. :-)

@mgmg4871 try this... load wave mapper in the default settings.. turn morph up and tap the random button a couple times. Then using the on screen keyboard or a midi controller, just let er rip on 3 or more keys, fast as you can, pretend you are Jordan Rudess... lol If it doesn't A)'crackle to hell' or B) 'crash', i'll be surprised (my results on ipad3)

  • @Ryan I tried that a few times, and didn't get a crash. I'm using an ipad2. Strange: I'm curious if anyone else is getting crashes like that.

  • I'm not. I just tried WaveMapper as standalone and also thru AudioBus following Ryan's instructions and I had no problems at all.

  • I also haven't had those issue with either WaveMapper or WaveGenerator. They have been fine.

@Ryan: its only you man, but I've got a workaround for you. Load up WaveMapper in Audiobus, grab that ashtray on your desk, and put out that funny looking cigarette you're puffing on, and do another test. The crackling should disappear and you'll stop crashing so much.

  • Aargh. Going nuts trying to get SampleTank to respond to SoundPrism Pro. First I tried Lie Guitar then found the thread that says that ain't gonna happen. Even installed MidiBridge just to mangle things more. Any help?

  • @Ryan While I love Ampkit it really can't touch the 45lb Classic 30 Combo I abuse with a strat when I need to move some air with my fingers

  • edited March 2013

Thanks guys. It still crackles and crashes for me. I'll try to uninstall and reinstall..

EDIT: That was it. It's fine now.. Do you think I had imported to many custom waves? Thank you @JMSexton @MrNezumi @mgmg4871

  • I'm not buying it for the same reason as @ryan. Would like the sounds and pretty sure I'd like the app but know I would be too infuriated by the ads to actually open it twice.

Here's to hoping for an IK Dev revolt! "STOP RUINING OUR WORK!"

    .

  • You can record in ST and then AudioCopy to another app.

  • What is this advertising in app everyone is on about ?

Not sure if I have seen any ?

  • @DaveMagoo Just load any IK Multimedia app. SampleTank, Amplitube, iGrand, etc..

  • Do you mean when the app initialises it shows an Irig midi pic for a few seconds ?

  • @DaveMagoo Yeah. In addition to that in apps like iGrand you get pop up ads for the first 20-30 seconds after start up, where you have to make a choice to close them. Those are really annoying. Beyond that you can use the app. It's just something you'd see in a free app that it would make sense.. Okay i'm forced to repeatedly view an advertisement cause it's free. But after you've paid for things or bought the hardware in the advert. Should you really have to view advertisements? It's personal preference to weather that gets on your nerves. For me, if this was the only problem i had with IK it probably wouldn't bother me as much. I've gone into that too many times.

  • Sampletank just has a splash screen while it loads. Same as beatmaker 2, loopy, turntable, samplr, or most other music apps. The only difference is on the sampletank splash screen, half of it is basically an ad for their irig midi interface which complemets the app. But i dont take fault with that since its simpy a loading splash screen, not an ad per se.
