Have had this app for over a year & persevered with it (ipad3) because its concept & some of its sounds are top-notch & in the hope the devs would improve its hit & miss midi implementation & memory/processor/distortion issues. (sometimes the app wont even start until doing a complete system reboot). It has never liked playing with other apps & I wonder if this has anything to do with their continuing delay of audiobus integration (which they promised months ago).
Regretfully, I have the impression they are more interested in churning out new products (which I have no need for) more than improving existing app & product issues.
Fact of life I suppose for some of the larger companies, but thankfully there are a few of the smaller devs , witness this forum & site who will go the extra mile in the interests of musicians over commercial gain.
In IK's favor - I have had cause to contact their technical support team several times & have always had a quick & effective reply .Come on guys - sort this great app out !
Well, I'm cheered up some by DaveMagoo's post that it works w iPad 4 and Dock B. I'll probably get a new iPad next Fall, but I might fall into the iPad 5 release... Quite a while from now... Hopefully a fix and, a big AND addition of AUDIOBUS to Sampletank by then.
Can't agree more jsb... I'm feeling a little bit hustled by Sampletank right about now. Why not just include "for iPad 4" in advertising VM?
Jesse_ohio: 100% re GarageBand point... GarageBand is pretty resource hungry, yet handles VM just fine. So, Sampletank, it can be done!
Whatever you do don't buy the Tron pack. It says 8 sounds, but you basically get three with a few corny variations.
We are putting out an update that should clear up a lot of reported issues, especially with how SampleTank plays with others (including Audiobus coming of course).
If you register iRig MIDI (or any other device that you may see a pop-up in-app message about) you should no longer see an in-app message about that show again.
Any issues beyond what I've just mentioned should of course be reported to the people who are paid to verify and help fix such issues, our Technical Support staff who can be reached here: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/support
I hope that clears some things up.
@xcc - Trons are direct samples of those tapes, which is really how the instrument itself works and there are variations, of course, just like with the full SampleTron desktop product which is also great IMO
HAHA! That made me laugh. "Annoyed with our advertisements? Buy what were trying to sell you and we'll stop." HAHAH Like that's perfectly normal. HAHAH sorry, everyone ignore me but that's hilarious.
@Ikmultimedia Thanks. Looking forward to updates.
I have to agree with Ryan that the position is a little ridiculous. At the same time. though, I will commend IK for jumping in here and addressing the customers directly. It's a proactive stance and it shows that they do care about their products and the perception of them in their target markets. I would just think that if the perception is that important it might be a good idea to listen to the paying customers who are saying that they feel like the in app ads (again, in an app that was purchased already) is way over the top. Free apps are fair game, but if I buy something I don't want ads in it. I took back a Kindle HD for this very reason. Great little tablet, honestly, for what it does (solely consumption of media), but the constantly-on ads that you cannot disable were a deal breaker.
@Ryan Well he could hardly say "If the adverts annoy you, just sample the hell out of our instruments and play them in apps that don't spam you with ads for stuff you don't want."
But it is funny... Lol.
When you start up ST you get the app splash screen which has an ad for iRig but there is NO pop up ad after that. Maybe if you have an iRig and it's plugged in and you haven't registered it yet then you'll get a pop up trying to get you to register but I can't test that since i don't have an iRig. I haven't seen any ads past the splash screen.
They were pretty fast in answering at the IK MultiMedia (SampleTank) site, too. Will give them credit for that...
I agree, no requirement to buy product to get rid of ad... Come on...
Now, I just hope that it doesn't take a bajillion months to put out the update. Sorry, I'll a little sour about dropping a lot of cash for an app that is pretty much useless and then having to wait until...who knows... to be able to use it.
I just opened up Sampletank, I grand, and amplitube and didn't get any popups! How is that without an update? I've always gotten some sort of an add upon opening. I did get one add when I tried to play the drum loops in amplitube though!
@ikmultimedia thanks for the update, i cant wait to use Sampletank with Audiobus.
It will definitely ad a lot more quality and variety to the current Audiobus compatible apps.
Just posted at IK MultiMedia (Sampletank):
"Any timeline is not 100% set at this point but it is being worked on and tested of course, then we will release as soon as we can."
So, I take that as good news. Hopefully a matter of weeks, not months.
@ikmultimedia.......many thanks for prompt response , looking forward to the updates .
I been using Sample Tank for a while on PC and about for the last year on iPad great sounds I wish I could use some of my Miroslav.
So how long before compatible with Audiobus?
Thanks
@ikmultimedia "@xcc - Trons are direct samples of those tapes, which is really how the instrument itself works and there are variations, of course, just like with the full SampleTron desktop product which is also great IMO"
I agree that SampleTron is nice, but the Tron pack isn't 8 instruments as advertised, it's three with multiple variations. You couldn't at least throw in some wood winds or brass? Either way its misleading. Luckily Apple was cool and gave me a refund.
.
Wow, I thought you said directly that you own iRig MIDI and still get a pop-up about it. I was addressing that directly, but it gets thrown in my face. Apologies if I misread, either way it seems I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. I don't appreciate getting laughed at in my face for trying to point out something that might have actually been a technical issue that needed to be looked at. Enjoy the thread and please check our forum or other official IK resources for any information going forward.
Again, apologies for misreading or simply trying to help with a specific issue. If you don't like the app or what it does, report it officially to us, or just gripe about it here, don't purchase it, or any combination of these options. Either way, you now know where you can get help and continue to be insulting to those who try to help here if that's the direction you choose.
@Simon please check our official channels for any ETA/updates.
@ikmultimedia who was that rant aimed at? You've gotten pretty nice and enthusiastic responses from us overall. I think your post was a pretty awful PR move considering how much of your target audience you probably just offended and drove away from your products.
Tip: You're representing a business. Don't be ugly, ever. Especially to your core audience. PM the guy if you want to discuss something further. You have to have thick skin if you're in charge of handling user feedback - it comes with the territory.
Damn it's getting hostile in here!
Not taking a hit at IK, just stating a fact; I've seen a few IK rep's get kinda nasty over on KVR also. I know everyone is human and makes mistakes, but its not very professional IMO.
I'm removing my comment because I want to have a positive effect on others in the forum here and not perpetuate the negativity. I'll just say; I am dissapoint.
They get just as hostile on their own forum too. Not surprised by this at all, frankly.
.
@ikmultimedia That was probably mostly my fault. Sorry everyone. I didn't realize it was possible to laugh in the face of a company that has no face. Sorry if I hurt your feelings Mr IK represenative, I'm not laughing at you or your advice, I realize what you are doing. SO unless these are your personal policies and you are the owner of IK then you really don't have to take offense. No one has anything bad to say about you personally or any of the devs, It's the way the company that you work for does business. You MUST see where we are coming from with this. Please don't give up on coming here due to my over opinionated jerkism. :-))
I don't want to add fuel to the fire... especially as it seems to be dying down :-) First, very noble of you Ryan to apologize to Mr. IK...
I spent a lot of $$$ on Sampletank, at least in app terms, so I think it's fair of me to be pretty critical of it's performance... And, more importantly, at that price to be critical of what the company advertises that the app can do. And even more importantly, how responsive IK is, not to 3rd party comment boards, but to actual updates and patches for MAJOR problems like, uhmm, not running with pretty much any of the dozens of other music apps that I start up at the same time, even when I'm not trying to use Virtual Midi. Ahhhh, had to get that out!!
Then, I think of an app like AudioBus... Reasonably priced, networked with literally hundreds of apps, works very, very well, is patched extremely quickly when something goes wrong, and the developers respond to what I can only imagine must be very demanding, even stressful updates with nothing but courtesy and friendliness. Hmmm...
Customer Service and Public Relations are two things that can impact a business tremendously. Lets put it this way; Company A may have a superb product with poor customer service and pr. Company B has a decent product but not quite as good as Company A, but their customer service is top notch and pr puts fires out and listens to customer. I know tons of people that would much rather own Company B's product though its a lesser product in terms of quality, simply because they are responsive, easy to deal with, and pleasant.
I hate bad customer service because I'm a 911 Dispatcher and get screamed and cursed at my entire shift and during that must maintain professionalism and not get angry or frustrated. So if I can do it in those circumstances, than I feel any other situation can be handled similarly, providing emotions don't get in the way and you understand it's not a direct attack at you as much as it is the company or situation...2 cents
That was worth 3 cents at least @JMSexton. ;-) I deal with customers too, as do many others, and I want to keep your position in mind the next time I react poorly. You have my respect for what you do!
I must say that IK's over-adverts annoy me as well. If I could change one thing about that entire company, it's a no brainer for me. I have paid for Sampletank and Amplitude, so I expect that IK knows that I can research them easily enough, and would prefer that to wasting my time with ads....or give me a way to opt out, at least!
@JMSexton Respect
