Here's my first intro video to Prism with some demo material mixed in. There will be more in the future that highlight my own approach to the app.

Must watch for anybody using Prism.

@EdZAB - next time you might want to make note that long-press on the menu is needed only if you've changed the Default Setting Style from the default Dropdown to Embedded. That might be confusing for people who aren't aware of that option's existence.

Good callout @wim - I’ll mention that. Thanks!

And a grateful thank you to @wim and @egobeats for the kind words. 😊

    Great video, Ed!
    Thanks for posting

  • We could use some more prism tutorials...

    Hope to see more.

  • @EdZAB Thanks for the info on importing MIDI files for Tonal + Drum tracks.. works really well.. I found that I needed to adjust the bar length of many of the drum patterns I was trying out.. they seem to default to 1 bar length in Prism even when they’re actually longer.. All the info is there but I just needed to lengthen the bars of each pattern to 2 or 4 etc.. then everything worked great..

I don’t know if that’s the standard way of handling imported midi files for Prism.. perhaps it was user error on my part.. it would be nice if the pattern length could adjust itself for each imported drum pattern.. a 4 bar pattern is automatically adjusted to be 4 bars..

When I imported a tonal MIDI track using the main menu, it came in at the right length.. no adjustments needed..

Super informative video.. there’s simply SO much to explore inside of Prism.. I don’t even know if I’m using 1% of its capabilities right now.. your video helped me to understand more of what it can do.. would love to see an even deeper dive video.. thanks a bunch for your time + effort on this one..🙏

  • Insanely deep and results feel rewarding. I’m still trying to sort out the midi files

I like that the first video resists the temptation to get into details. The key to getting along with Prism is absorbing the philosophy behind it. If you start of as I did with diving right into trying figure out how to do do specific things. I quit more than once. Then eventually it started to come together. I think my learning path would have been much shorter with more of an overview ... followed by the deeper dives.

I'd say even a few more videos at roughly this level would be quite helpful to start for many people.

  • Yes, thank you for the video.
    Really helpfull

    Happy Easter folks...

    Another epic Prism update.

This really is the time to try it, imo.

  • Nice! A way to place p-locks without triggering a note. I was gonna ask for that.

I'm not so sure about the term "ghost note" for this though. In drum terms a ghost note is one played very softly, usually between beats. In piano roll and other sequencers, it's often used for the equivalent of Prism's peek feature.

Now we have a third meaning. That's a at 66% chance of someone being confused by it. 😉
