@pascal_also I actually got it to work.
I put audiomux in the input then loopy as output then on another channel put loopy as input and audiomux as output. I just turned the iPad volume down.
In mainstage I set my instrument to audiomux and then created an audio channel with audiomux as the input and my audio interface as the output.
It worked like a charm. Although at one point the latency was really bad so I restarted my iPad and it fixed the issue
@Pascal_kaap.thank you for your answer.So there's a tiny bit of hope?......YES....
Downloaded Audiomux yesterday, and got it to work after a couple of minor issues during the installation:
/Library/LaunchAgenst/audiomux
file had the wrong permissions. I checked the permissions, and true, it hadlocaladmin:wheel
instead ofroot:wheel
- that must have happened during the installation. After fixing the permissions, the app started. Not sure whether this is the right place to raise these issues, but maybe someone else will run into the same issues and find these hints here.
After fixing the two issues above, it worked fine. I'll post some further questions in a separate post in this thread.
BTW: A more "official" (for lack of a better word) download location for the server would be nice - not DropBox. Some companies block access to DropBox, an officially hosted version (on the midimux.com domain) would be nice.
Here's another question: My current setup looks like this:
My ideal workflow would look like this:
At the moment, I don't know how to set this up, i.e. routing only the one input from the iTrack Solo to the iPad, everything else goes to the iTrack Solo as is.
What I found to work is that I can use a second audio interface on the iPad (JamPlug connected to the iPad's headphone socket), and plug my guitar in there. Then I only need to route the iPad's output through Audiomux into the MacBook's GarageBand track. It works quite well, the only downside is that the input quality of the JamPlug isn't as good as the Focusrite's input.
I'm not sure whether my dream setup above is possible, but if someone has ideas, feel free to comment.
@pascal_kaap - any update from Apple on the review status for the bundle?
@gmslayton You hacked our App . Nice.
@NilsWinkler Thank you for posting it here. And yes, it helped some users, who encountered the same issue. I asked them to follow your instructions, and it helped. Sorry but i couldn't establish the setup, you mentioned...... Maybe a dynamic multi routing server app would make this possible? But i'm not sure if it is feasible.
@Empolo It is available now, finally . We are sorry, that some of you had to wait so long. We did not expect such a long review time. Have fun.

Couldn't wait so I bought it! Well worth 7 bucks, now playing ifretless guitar thru guitar rig 5! Heaven. Thanks pascal!
Bought, solely on the strength of touchAble.
so excited about this, if it works right this will save me from having to purchase a second audio interface for another setup I'd like to use the iPad with.
I can't see a way to use guitar amp apps such as tonestack or amplitude as these require use of lightning port to interact with instrument? Is there a way to play guitar through Tonestack say to logic daw along with tracks on Logic? I can't see a way to monitor logic tracks whilst attempting this. Hope what i just described made sense.
@pascal_kaap It looks like it's an issue with your installer. Could it be based on the user account that you use for the installation. In my case, my local user is an administrator on the machine. I had to do
sudo chown root:wheel /Library/LaunchAgents/audiomux.plist
to get it to work. It looks like it needs to be owned byroot:wheel
instead oflocaladmin:wheel
. Is this something you could fix in the installer?@Don That's the same question I asked in my second post above. When I connect my audio interface to the Mac, and hook up my guitar into the audio interface, there currently isn't any way to route just the raw guitar signal to the iPad, and then the processed guitar signal back to the Mac - that doesn't seem to be possible at the moment. @pascal_kaap confirmed that in his post.
What works for me is that I use a second audio interface for the iPad - one that can be plugged into the iPad's headphone socket (JamPlug in my case). Then just route Tonestack into Audiomux through Audiobus and that into the Mac through the Lightning cable. Works for me with close to no latency. I know that using the iPad's headphone socket provides inferior audio quality, but I'm taking that risk.
Best $9.99 I have spent in a long time. I got Midimux last night with the bundle but just now got a chance to test it out. I pulled up loopy expecting to need to remap all the controls from my FCB1010 but to my surprise, the iPAD using Midimux see all my midi gear as if it was physically connected, no need to remap. The only trouble is that Turnado is no longer mapped to my quneo, not sure why.
Now my iPad has became the ultimate loop station. Great job on the apps @pascal_kaap
@NilsWinkler Im using MainStage to route whatever audio to my iPad and then back into MainStage with virtually no latency. I setup an aggregate device and combined my EIE and the iPAD input/outputs. Maybe I can do a quick demo video of my setup later on today.
Apparently an issue with 10.7 OSX. "No USB connected."
Waiting for the update.
@NilsWinkler I found an App, which seems to be appropriate for audio-routing on a Mac. https://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/ Unfortunately it costs 50$. I tried the app and i seems pretty stable and convenient. There is also a five minute trial Version, if you want to try it out.
@gmslayton Thanks a lot.
@Holiday sorry, we are still working on a solution for 10.7.
There seems to be limitations, as always with new technologies and now a few are coming forth with audio over usb. As with anything nothing is perfect. I have been using a cable from headphone out stereo to mono in on the apogee one instrument preamp. This frees up the lightning port for external keyboard or guitar input to the iPad. I have always been satisfied with the result as I can control input gain into logic with the iPad volume and have the benefit of apogee one's A/d conversion and preamps.
Using lightning to usb blocks the use of keyboard and guitars and one must resort to the application keyboard for synths or other key played apps with no provision for guitar or bass.
Just my thoughts but these over usb apps, and I know they are new and improvements will surely follow, but just a simple cable as I mentioned give much greater versatility and options.
I know the argument is that the iPad headphone out is lacking but with the apogee one A/D I have been quite satisfied and have the benefit of Logic to deal with any issues.
Just my thoughts, the fact that we have one iPad port to work with and instrument connectivity is important.
I use Soundflower for that. Never had any issues at all with it plus it is free.
@o_imseng - can you explain your workflow with Soundflower in more detail? How do you use it, and what connectivity (cables, network, into which software) do you use? Maybe also some details on latency? That would be awesome.
@Don - I've tried to go from the iPad's headphone socket into my iTrack Solo using a cable, but whenever I did that, I got horrible feedback in GarageBand on the Mac. Maybe I've used the wrong cable - did you use a specific one?
I have a Motu Microbook connected to my Macbook Pro. I patch the headphone Output of my iPad into a Line In of my Microbook. The rest is done via Midi (irig midi until MusicIO and the like dropped). The latency is almost non existant and can be corrected so easily in DAW's like Ableton etc.
Soundflower is in a Aggregate Device with my Microbook as I do a lot of Sound design and Sampling. I use this in conjunction with Sample Robot when I have to Sample my creations for further patch libraries design etc. Or when I want to use my beloved ES2 Logic Pro Synth via Mainstage in Reason or Ableton Live. Thats what Soundflower i use Soundflower for so I can pass the Audio between DAW Applications.
I made up a cable, stereo mini out of headphone to mono quarter inch into apogee. I have never experienced noise or feedback using it. I don't know what the sound quality difference might be but through the apogee one all seems well.
I should point out that I always strive for an input level of about minus 12db in logic. This is a good signal with plenty of room for EQ and compression if required. I should also point out that one should take advantage of these great apps like Audiomux and that my cable setup is what I use when inputing guitar and want to use my amp sims on the iPad. I guess whatever it takes to get the job done.
Anyone knows if there is going to be a windows version? I really need this!
@pascal_kaap
HI Pascal, I can get the midi from Ableton to IPAD, there isn't any noticeable delay in the click I hear in Ableton and the drum beat playing on Funkbox. I am triggering the beat on 1.1.1 in my midi clip but when I hit session record in Ableton, my audio starts recording at around 1.1.3. Am I doing something wrong in the screenshot attached?
I've used the previous free version of Audio Hijack Pro before for years, which gives you ten minutes. The previously mentioned Soundflower allows this as well. Also worth mentioning that the Saffire Pro 40 interface has a "loopback" feature that allows you to route internal audio into your DAW; I'm not sure what other interfaces have this feature, if any.
What we really need is a utility like this in iOS, preferably Audiobus and IAA compatible.
@nadeem_inayat Sorry for the inconvenience. You have probably not done anything wrong. Some users encountered the same bug and i can't give you proper instructions at the moment, since we are still trying to find the origin of these high latencies. Could you please restart all of your devices and if the problem still persists, please contact [email protected]. Cheers Pascal.
I'm getting high latency on Audiomux. I'm on OS 10.9.5, iMac Core i7, Logic 10.1, iMac MOTU 282 MKIII, iPad Air 1, iOS 8.1.3
As a side note when the fix comes in for 10.7 OSX I'm hoping too we can get at least 32bit support.
Pascal, will there be an update to fix the large latency issue some of us are having?
Except spending money on audiobus... This is the best €10 I've ever spent on the iPad!
Thanks a lot Dev !
