It's pain in the arse if you want to get to your files though!
For example, copying my Auria projects to my computer for backup, iTunes is useless for this. Apple simply haven't provided a decent workflow for transferring files conveniently.

Yup.
I can confirm that in 8.3 you can no longer access app files in iTools (another iDevice transfer utility) either.
or indeed cleaning up files on your device - i.e. deleting or backing up large number of audio files. For example I can't see a way i can delete a while load of old Beatmaker2 files and samples now without doing it manually through the app.
Hope they change this - but my feeling is they may not... They could at least make iTunes better at doing some of these tasks.
Dat be what I use. Dang. Mostly to access my photo's and transfer them to my computer. So.....I gather that will not work anymore either? fooey!
@High5denied I think you're ok with accessing your photos.I think it's just access to files within apps that has been blocked.
Ops spoke too soon about iFunbox. Well, fuck you Apple (again..).
Yes photos still works, just app filesharing is blocked right now.
Ok. TY.
Edited
After updating my devices I strangely have much more storage left. It wiped all my notability files across all devices even the mac. Also any files I had in nPlayer. Probably more but at least GoodReader and ForScore still have everything there... So people should definitely backup all important documents before installing.
Hmm, I think I'll stick to 8.2.
I'm glad I didn't update to 8.3 right away. Not being able to access the file system with iFunbox is a no-deal.
I don't know if Apple has purposefully closed the "hole" that allowed iFunbox and such programs to access the file system, or if these programs just need to be updated to regain access. But if Apple has purposefully and permanently closed off access and essentially killed iFunbox, then I'm done with Apple devices. iTunes filesharing is not only a pain in the ass to deal with, it's also not as flexible as iFunbox. Programs like iFunbox not only made transferring and backing up files bearable, it was the ONLY way to transfer and backup some of those files.
I refuse to update to a version of iOS that cripples the previous functionality and usefulness of my iPad, and if Apple has permanently closed off access to these files from programs like iFunbox, then I don't see myself buying another iPad.
Even a sandbox needs cleaning sometimes.
I'm surprised it (iFunbox) continued for so long with the ability
I don't use iFunbox so not an issue for me. Last night I used Gadget - properly, for the first time since I bought it. Just amazing, and overall Audiobus and other app performance is massively improved.
I bought the Air 2 and doubled the performance over my old iPad 2, but have quadrupled it again with the update - it's like having another new pad.
Yep, I agree. It ain't windows or android unless you jailbreak. We all know how sandboxy Apple are I'm not at all surprised. Still secretly hoping some loophole opens again soon.
EDITED (my mistake)
No matter how many times I have adjust my iPad. Again, the iOS update file has been downloaded to my iPad (+ 1 Gb). This is frustrating...
The important questions...I'm on 7.1.2. I don't need to upgrade, but there are benefits. Shit just gets thick, PCM aside. Layering kills. But how do you balance your kit?
iOS 8.3 has significantly improved the performance of Korg Gadget for me and thats my main app of choice currently. Thankfully I've not used ifunbox that much yet, but i can see the loss of its functionality will be frustrating for a lot of people.
Even though iOS is great for music making, I'm not a fan of Apple as a company. Crippling the iPads regarding difficult file transfer (all files, not just music or photo files) and storage options (SD card slot...) and generally forcing you to work in their way of working doesn't endear them to me.
I think it will really depend what apps/how you use them. I'm live oriented mostly and stability is super important to me.
I've been sitting on 7.1.2 on air 1 for ages now but since 8.3 I'm almost ready to move. I'm lucky enough to be able to compare 2 iPads with 7 and 8 on and so far my mini retina on 8 with my particular AB preset has been behaving flawlessly. I fact when they were both on 7.1.2 retina had some latency related drop outs which hasn't happened since the last update.
For those who are terrorised by the sole thought of updating I'd suggest buying another ipad and try the apps/set ups you're using until you're happy they going to hold in the real world. I know it may not be possible for some due to cost but this is probably the only way to be properly sure. Unless you can convince your missus that she needs a shiny new ipad which is exactly what I did
I did the 'Monzo Jnr really needs an iPad now, I'll get an Air 2 and he can have the old one' approach.
Sleek!
I would have sticked to 8.2 as well but the scrollview fix makes it an absolute essential update for all Air 2 user.I'm still more happy about the fix than sad about the loss of iFunbox
It's always swings and roundabouts with iPad hardware/software combos - winners and losers. 8.3 has completely transformed my Air 2 though, so even if I was using iFunbox I'd still consider it an overall win.
But let's not forget the reason behind our joy:because apple totally f*cked it up first.Still something to keep in mind Anyway,in this case i prefer to be the"glass is half full" instead of"half empty" guy
Ha, ha, good point @Crabman, right between the eyes.
You can please some of the people all of the time. But...
Life!

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.”
Please/Satisfy!
Apple have a perverse system for file browsing and sharing on OSX as well. It's just not as logical or user-friendly as a Windows system. Add in being forced to use their photo and iTues systems and it's a total bleedin nightmare. I work on Macs and PC's and although I love most of the Mac interface and hardware, general file movingaroundness is an unpleasant experience.
Give the crowd something.... take it away.... give them bits back.... they will love you Apple is like a drug dealer. Expensive.... they blow up their drugs (software and hardware) more and more. Apple could sell shit Still not happy with all of the crap they did in the last months. IOS is kind of dead for me at this point. Still useful for some things but at this stage it has not much future (for my personal needs) when it goes this way. The watch, the new macbook, all the latest OS updates..... they already selling some kind of golden shit But it's simple, love it or leave it!
