  • With little midi machine it syncs fine (midi pro as slave)....

I finally synced with BM2 (I forget to switch to EXT in Pro Midi). I loaded Thor, Nave and Tera in BM2 (IAA) and is working! trying to fix the latency.

  • Midi Pro latency is very high (1024 buffer) , a nice trick is to launch another app first ,like audiobus. Speaking AB ,pro midi appears on the output slot ,but never actually connects to AB

  • Thanks Korakios

    Which makes it silly IMO.

It needs to be in the input slot combining with other apps as an input. Like Thysis, Bstep, or StepPolyArp.

Otherwise, it is 1 too many steps to be useful for me.

I bought it not knowing its inability to go in the input slot.

  • @RustiK I found that the dev joined earlier in the forum and he mentioned that AB support is planned for future update

    http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/6655/pro-midi-new-sequencer-recorder-editor-and-more/p2

I understand the frustration, but there is no AB support on the app description. Regardless the non AB support and some midi port recording issues the app is promising . With some "workarounds" you can use it as a midi looper... ;)

  • Ok guys, I went for it. Trying to figure out why it won't separate my midi song into separate channels or tracks. I have this midi file in audioshare which when i do open in to Cubasis, it separates each channel with its own instrument. But when I try this with Pro Midi, it doesnt do this, unless I select to load the whole thing into a single channel. Any tips...new to this app.

  • I'm still hoping that midi triggering will be added to ProMidi at some point.

  • MM4C - when you import a midi file, it should go into your inbox in Pro Midi. When you open it, you should see the option to split it across channels. The other option is to bring it into a single channel. The former should work. If you're saying it splits it when you chose the other option, that doesn't make sense. It works for me when I choose split across tracks.

You mean the instruments you load in Pro Midi, right? if Pro Midi doesn't folow any clock is useless.

Are you talking about an external clock? I set up MIDIflow's clock to sync Pro MIDI with no luck. Interesting when I took the instruments out of IAA and tried to use MIDI, MIDIflow shows that Pro MIDI isn't broadcasting MIDI at all.

  • If I select the single channel option it works and I can see all the midi data. Its the other option that doesn't do anything. I'll try another midi file.
So when I chose split across channels this means that I should have midi data on each midi track right?
Its weird cause she I open in cubasis it splits it automatically and all the instruments are set automatically. Will play with this some more.

I didn't realize that Pro Midi have a swith to EXT. I found it the BPM's windows. Now I can sync Pro Midi with BeatMaker 2 (master and slave) but is some latency in there:-/I will test more during the day

    +1 (and audiobus support)

  • I can't figure this one out, think I'II stick with Genome.

  • MM4C - yes, that's how it should work, and it should set the instruments as well. I haven't had any problems with it working in that manner.

I haven't dedicated any time yet to Pro Midi, but intend to. I did swipe the manual, did you see it/was it helpful?

I spend some time ,I haven't found anything that is not covered in the manual

  • I haven't had a chance to do much with it but found it really easy to set up 4 midi tracks and connect them to external apps.

  • If I try recording Midi in I ran into weird issues. But it is a great app if I'm just sticking with the piano roll and the clips view.

  • @Korakios, @RustiK,

Pro Midi does not show up as an input in audiobus because it does not produce audio. The instruments that Pro Midi drives would be the inputs in audiobus, not Pro Midi itself. If a future release of Pro Midi includes built-in instruments, that would be the time to request audiobus support.

  • The black notes on the on-screen keyboard can't go as loud as the whites. I hope that get's fixed one day.

I'd hate see midi only apps add audio just to be included inside of Audiobus. What would be nice is if Audiobus added an area dedicated to adding non-audio apps just for basic state saving functionality.

I understand why they may not want to do this, but by adding the state saving functionality a while back, they have gotten people, like myself, very used to using Audiobus to organize overall session flow. It would be nice if it could include a simple ability to launch and hold states for non audio apps, as well.

    +100000

Maybe making a dedicated midi/utility slot(s) and take advantage of the state saving feature.

  • Did anyone got any feedback by the dev?I have send emails but no response, yet.

    2016 .
Has anybody recently got any feedback from the dev ? (I mean the past few months)
I love pro midi but I mainly miss remote control . Could write long wish list, but I feel it's abandoned app.
Modstep is a great alternative , great one but overkill (and much $$)

EDIT: Realized that I bumped wrong Pro Midi thread. Well, it's not on sale, sorry!

  • I own Pro Midi, midiPatterns (which has sort of been abandoned), and ModStep. Sadly, I didn't really use any of them that much for awhile - virtual MIDI (to other apps) is handled adequately by my DAW (MTS), and I didn't own any hardware that I could sequence.

I've revisited now that I picked up a few of the Korg Volcas - figured out how to sequence them with equipment I already had (Griffin Studio Connect...now $16 on Amazon Prime!!). So this actually creates a use for apps like Pro MIDI and ModStep. Thinking I prefer the latter, however, especially since the built in synth and sampler make it a lot more convenient as a sketchpad. The UI of ModStep isn't great, necessarily, but Pro MIDI tends to cause me more headaches in terms of MIDI routing, though I did get it to work last night.

  • Can you assign record / play of individual clips on modstep? For live jamming recordings/ overdubs.

  • I use pro midi when I need to open a midi file that has several channels, to send to separate apps (ex: I made a song in chordbot or youcompose)
There not so much apps that can do that(Auria and cubasis comes to mind), and pro midi is pretty straightforward and light.
I wish I could open midi files in modstep because of link (or have link in pro midi ?)

Roland Soundcanvas is also great for this.
I've downloaded Daft Punk Midi files with
several channels and they play perfectly in each slot.
Pretty nice to change instruments and drums on the fly.

  • i would use this app more if it remembered all the midi connections/setup when I re-opened it. Every time I use it - it usually takes me 5-6 minutes to setup midi and sync things up.
