No worries. You get two years of brain mush pardon minimum, part of the Forum paternity package.

I wasn't aware of that, can I use my time retroactively? I have two daughters, so is that 4 years?

To be honest, the brain mush is more now than when they were newborns! (9 and 11. The preteen female is quite an adventure...and the second will DEFINITELY be an adventure). Plus, my wife and both daughters are all black belts in Taekwon do (wife is 3rd degree and probably testing for 4th next year- I'm NOT calling her "Master").

HELP! Maybe there's a "Living with 3 females survival kit" we can add to the benefits package?

    :-)

  • @mrufino1 you are a far better man than I will ever be, but also going to be severely under the cosh for some long time to come. Courage mon brave. The upside of course is that come the days of drooling under the red blanket you have an outside chance that someone might be about to wipe your chin....

  • I wish it could export midi files split into scenes, the same way it splits audio files when exporting to Ableton Live

The work around is to create a new copy of the song and delete all but one scene, export midi, then rinse and repeat.

Well, yes. I guess it's still quicker than using your DAW of choice to split your midi tracks manually

Hope they will add this feature one day. I don't believe they will implement live midi out, so export of your tracks split into scenes can be a good alternative for those, who want to experiment with other instruments or to perform their songs live

  • The many faces of Gadget :-) (not mine btw)

  • Talking of the 80's and 90's.... :)

  • ahh, like an inappropriate love affair

What would really help me, and others I suspect, is if someone made some examples of sounds that are capable with the editing/layering possible within iM1/Darwin. All I've heard on youtube and elsewhere are the stock sounds, or with simple layering, and I'm thus far uncompelled (getting a little acid reflux from all the cheese).

Are all the editing features even available within Darwin? Do you have to jump over to iM1 to edit then jump back to Gadget? Is the layering feature available in Darwin, or do you have to duplicate the notes in multiple instances to get the same effect in Gadget? I'm thinking it might be a lot of work to wring fresh sounds from it.

I'm only even considering this purchase because I like the workflow in Gadget so much. But like some others, I find the sonic choices creatively limiting thus far.

  • @aaronpc Sorry I don't have time to throw this together for you, but they're really not (limiting). I think you'll see a theme throughout this/these threads since release was a general worry about the noises and a general happiness with them subsequent to purchase...

  • Yeah - I was worried about cheesey comestible noise nightmares before purchase, but they're only about 20% of the story - the rest is filled with percussion, pads, basses etc, very good traditional instrument samples and a whole bunch of cheap Kay catalogue Yamaha organ sounds (my personal favourites).

I haven't delved into sharing presets with Darwin yet, but have made some weirdness in iM1 itself - to be honest I haven't had a chance to think about it as I've been busy exploring the thousands of sounds it comes with.

The thing to remember though is using Darwin you can layer them in Gadget anyway - just add more tracks and record live tweaking for extra width.

At the moment I'm loving being able to grab a decent flute sound, for example, and using that in Gadget, or straight into Auria via iM1. It's the first music app purchase I've made for a while that I haven't been compelled to come on here and moan about.

No higher praise. Word is that this quote is being bronzed and made ready for the boardroom at Korg headquarters :)

You say that like it's a good thing, but I've got nothing to talk about now and am reduced to posting rubbish, or 'yeah' type posts. I'm tempted to reinstall DD or buy the Tabletop IAP's before I turn into a sycophantic gas.

  • every time i put some money in my itunes account i sit there wishing there more more IAPs with which to throw money at Korg & Gadget. It's the only situation where I actually want (more) IAP.

Just bought it too after holding off for a while. It's great and I've no regrets....I don't think their video ad was very inspiring it nearly put me off!

I think the only thing to whinge about is the Gadget integration is a bit lacklustre, you can't change or make new presets within Darwin. But you have some controls to play with.

It also seems like you have to restart Gadget in order for it to see your presets saved in the main app, unless there's a workaround.

So only a minor whinge.... ;)

Edit: your presets become available if you start a new Darwin Gadget

  • I just purchased both Gadget and M1, with all the IAPs for both and I can already say I don't regret it one bit. In fact it looks like it could quite possibly be the best purchase I made in IOS music apps. I just love this whole environment and how easy it is to do everything. It's probably the first workflow where I could actually say I have a real chance at getting what's in my head into a song that kind of sounds like what I was thinking about.

The one thing I did pass on for now was Module. The piano sounds in M1 are more than adequate for me.

Creating a new instance of Darwin does the same. So you could duplicate your Darwin track and delete the original. The presets then update.

  • oh thanks, yeah just spotted that and amended my post :)

  • iM1 and midi export is definitely an incentive to get me using Gadget more again :)

  • How does Marseille compare to Darwin? Do they both occupy the same niche?

  • Kind of, I was thinking the same thing before I bought the iM1 (interestingly, Kiev also has some M1 type sounds too)
I'd say Darwin is more comprehensive though.

I'm still not sure how the multi's / combi's fit into things. I know you can duplicate as many instances of Darwin as you like, but those multi's were programmed to work as such, so it's not the same thing (AFAIK).
