  • Bm2 for 9.99
    Is it a sale?

  • I'm a bit miffed that Session Band (I've had them all for a while) hasn't moved on to the next stage. There was talk, but nothing more of late. Have to wonder if this kind of ploy is to goose the market for something new coming or just to harvest some cash from a static product. More excited about Tim Pan at this point, but I guess the loops might be worth having...

  • @Goozon
BM2 has been holding at that price for a while. If you get into it (check YouTube and RTFM) you will be amazed for the price, especially for iPhone.

  • Sessionband apps are great sampler (samplr) fodder for the price

  • I'm new to iOS music making and am looking to do some composing in the coming year or two, do you guys think the Complete SessionBand package is worth getting? :)

  • There's a lot of good stuff there. Only thing is that they do take up a lot of space. I wish it was a midi instead of audio, then session band would be amazing! There would be no problem with file size or tempo changes.

  • @Musikman4Christ
I totally agree! 6GB is huge! But it seems like a lot of good sounding stuff so I'm on the fence

Hi Necrome, I've just purchased the entire bundle and I'm enjoying it immensely. IMO it's a great product at a great price. To my ears, the SessionBand apps sound incredibly good. They won't produce an entire song automagically for you, but then again, what will? As a backing track with exceptional quality, I don't know of any other app that sounds as good as this, with so little effort.

These are studio, pro-grade recordings, in an easy-to-use interface. It's an incredible value; you still can find the earlier SessionBand CDs in some loop stores selling for about $30-$40 each.

  • The best part when you buy the bundle of SessionBand you get one SessionBand app for free (3 apps for 3,99).Think im going to buy the jazz bundle.

  • @Proto said:

Yeah, I can see three SessionBand bundles available; apparently the bundle discount is cumulative with the sales price of the apps, which is nice! There's the Acoustic Bundle (2 apps for $2.99), the Jazz Bundle (3 apps for $3.99) and the Complete Bundle which is the one I got (10 apps for $12.99).

@thesoundtestroom Doug, can you link bundles on the TSTR sales page?

  • edited July 2015

That's great to know, thanks - will be the default path to the App Store from now on!

  • @thesoundtestroom thank you Doug for updating this thread, I find it very useful!

  • I just bought the entire complete bundle and I have to say,the 3 jazz apps are exceptional! Can't say the same for the guitar and piano ones though... I have yet to try the Country, Rock, Blues and EDM variations though, will report back when I do.

  • I think it's better just to update this one thread instead of having a load threads, keeps it neater and Jo is doing all the app sale updates so it'll be right up to date daily

  • Woohoo, thanks Jo!

Yeah my thoughts exactly. No need to saturate the forum with different threads, just repost and re-tag this one. Brilliant!

  • OH NO! It looks like the "U" has fallen out of Doug's name! Just look at his profile picture!

  • Lol, I've had that profile pic for about three weeks now

Bought the Jazz bundle and it sounds amazing. Very high quality recordings and the drums are my fav. Its more like an interactive song you can change scales and mute channels.Great stuff for s??????? , practise or just listening.

Promised to be back for a report after I audition all the SessionBand apps in case anyone needs to find out if they are worth the price and storage space. I primarily do teaching, acoustic music and live performances and I have to say that most of the apps sound really good and useable even for professional backing/songwriting. I'm going to rank the apps in decreasing order of quality so y'all can decide which bundle to get!

1.) Jazz 1-3 (Amazing recordings and phrasing of all sorts of jazz instruments and styles, great sampled drum loops that I intend to use live. Chords are limited to the more advanced stuff, no simple major/minor chords)

2.) Country (Extremely versatile for most mainstream pop/folk compositions, not limited to country music. Natural sounding and pleasant loops in the entire app)

3.) Blues (Good range of instrumentation, not necessarily all blue-sy. Very nice grooves which can be used in a lot of different genres and circumstances)

4.) Rock (Eclectic mix of styles from the a few softer rock genres to mostly metal - which means you'll only use a few styles in the app unless you cover mostly heavy stuff. Clean loops with many good bass lines but some weakness in the electric guitar portions)

5.) Piano (Badly compressed audio files, limited bad sounding instrumentation, unnatural loop cut-offs. No drum loops)

6.) Acoustic 1/2 (Same as above, but even worse cause it sounds like everything was played on a super brittle Taylor guitar and the audio processed badly. Transition between chords are unnatural. No drum loops. Limited chord voicings)

7.) EDM (Limited instrumentation and sounds even worse than the prior two apps, but takes up close to 1gb)

Great and useful personal review. Concur pretty much from A to Z. Thanks so much for putting together such a nuanced piece. Terrific value for other members...

@JohnnyGoodyear It's baffling to think the same company that made the EDM/ Piano/Acoustic apps made the Jazz ones too lol

  • I hear you. Makes you wonder don't it........ :)

  • Don't know about EDM -a genre I don't like anyway-, but I think the Acoustic and Piano packs were their first, I guess they were still learning...

  • Hmmm, I have the country one, and it was pretty good. So.....What you are saying, is.......The rock one is metal leaning? Like are we talking Metallica, or Megadeth style, or Motley crue, Warrant style? I like both but just curious.

How do people use these session band apps? I have yet to figure out how to make use of it in a recording. Mostly just practice?

  • I bought the original session band app with the full In app purchase some time ago and can recommend that, it has a few fun different styles to play with. Also just bought the Jazz ones too and yeah I'm glad I did, they are good quality samples . Agree about the others, they sound weaker to me too.

I think the Jazz apps should all be in app purchases of one app though, bit annoying and pointless that they are separate apps....

I bought SB Blues and Rock while they were on sale last february and asked for a refund just an hour after the installation finished... I couldn't find any use to these apps. I've been impressed by the videos on Youtube, but I didn't even find a way to "program" a simple 12 bars blues to pratice solo.

I'm still wondering what these apps can bring...

For the August SOTM, I'm thinking of laying out a backing track in SessionBand and overlaying / mixing that with stuff coming out of something like Gestrument. Right now playing with Rock genre on both. Of course, that could end in a disaster.
