Mine are fine, they're high and dry, on me washin line.

  • Nuff said. i understand it all so clearly now. lol.

    • It's a groovebox

    • it has a (pretty basic) internal synth

    • and drum and instrument samples

    • it allows 6 different tracks/instruments

    • it's unique part is that, for the non drum parts, instead of using a grid to sequence, you pick a basic rhythm template and then apply an LFO style wave to it, to determine which notes to play across the rhythm

    • you can restrict notes to be within a scale or just a couple of notes etc

    • you can also use the same wave approach to modulate the filter, amp and pan

    • it now has midi out (6 different channels for the 6 different tracks is you want)

    • you can build up different patterns

The big downside for me is the fact that rhythm must repeat every bar. But apart from that, it's pretty cool.

  • Well you should all be pleased to know we just started a competition for Oscilab over at the site

  • I don't know if it's a new feature but it appears that rhythms can be up to 8 bars long @Matt_Fletcher_2000

  • waiting for sunrizer to go on sale

  • Yeah, I was able to get up to 8 bars too. Pretty awesome app. I really like the random button. You press it while it controls an external synth like Thor or Z3TA and you get so many variations. Pretty neat!

Oscilab sale expired on this Sunday. A very versatile 6 tracks 8 bars 14 scenes midi sequencer for this new updates!

I make example for you. Use Patterning sending clock to Oscilab, Use Oscilab 2 or 3 midi channel to control Synthmaster arppegiator presets! You don't use Patterning send midi notes to Synthmaster, because it is difficult to do so on the circle! Oscilab has very quick and flexible midi patterns sending to the synths.

  • Thanks for the info guys. I got it. It is quite the app. And I don't even know what to do with it yet. Gonna need to figure it all out. Fun times ahead. :)

  • Cool! The more I okay it the more I like it. It's addicting just like Paterning

Really? Well worth the 4.99, I have it on 3 devices. It has been crashing on my iPod touch lately though, which is my backup for my iPad on gigs for synth bass. Of course that device only runs ios6 and is pretty slow comparatively. But, well worth the 4.99

Is that in the rhythm presets or are there some other delights yet to be discovered?

Rhythms are repeated each bar, but you can have up to 8 bars of melody with that same rhythm.
Or, during performance, you can change the rhythms manually, even with random rhythms.

When I click the little button with '1 bar' it progresses through 2, 4, and 8 bars and allows me to create rhythms of that length. Is this not what we are talking about?

yes, it allows you to create more bars, but they all have the same rhythm. you change melody etc, but you only have one bar of rhythm. so your second bar can not have a different rhythmic pattern than the first one. (with rhythm i mean lengths of notes set at the bottom)

  • Not much mention of the Korg app sale until Aug 21st (i.e., now). Is that because it goes without saying that we’ve all already got them all?

I don't have my iPad with me but I'm not sure that is correct (maybe it used to be?) There is a button with two arrows that lets you define all the other bars' rhythm patterns. I will have to check when I get home.

mh, maybe you have a vision of oscilab 2.0 already? i see no arrows in the current version

In another thread on Oscilab the dev already commented on this. There is one 1-bar, 16-step rhythm pattern for each of the first four tone instruments (though you can change instrument and rhythm pattern in each scene). Even if you program the waves over 8 bars, the rhythm pattern is the same; the actual notes played over the base rhythmic pattern will change however over the bars. For the last fifth and sixth drum instruments you can have up to 8 bars of varying patterns. It seems that the dev is considering the suggestion of increasing the rhythm pattern to 32 steps, and also listened to suggestions about changing the rhythm pattern for each bar. Even though it is certainly a limitation, when you consider that you can have variations in the drum patterns over 8 bars, up to 6 instruments playing at the same time, up to 14 scenes (each with varying instruments and rhythm patterns), it all adds up to some huge musical variety. Also, Oscilab seems directed at performance. You can definitely change everything, including hitting a random rhythm button, on the fly. And the pads can be automated for nicely evolving melodies.

well explained, Mr. AndyX -- and I agree, while it's a limitation, the app offers enough options for variety and complexity. one of my favorite music apps, actually

  • OK I must have misread this bit of the interface. When I click the arrows 'circled' it shows another empty rhythm page (assuming I have changed it to '2 bars') What is that for?

  • @Jocphone said:

Hi Jocphone, like I said above, you can program up to 8 bars of rhythm for the two drum instruments, but not for the four tone instruments - which certainly is somewhat confusing!

  • Ah I get it now. The synths only have a repeated one bar rhythm! Sorry, bit slow on a Friday afternoon..

No problems, quite slow here too, and it is still morning :)

Yep, it was quite confusing to me too. Thanks for sharing!

  • Latest update, all Korg now off sale, but Elastic Drums added

I'll be picking up Elastic Druns. Especially after watching Doug's video. Do you get the iPhone version as well? I'm away from the house right now.
