  • Wot about Logic Pro X Mobile? Lol......... Joking aside, at least Apple have kept the software alive. Maybe they will release more sound pack for us?

    Reporting back with MainStage:

works great, but yes it is causing me to want to spend more money.

    • HDD caddy ordered so I can download the 14GB of Alchemy synth presets on my old MBP. $12.. why not?

    • Next I'm sure I'll want to get these epic sounds back on to iPad, so I'll be looking up those audio over USB apps...

I have soundflower (2ch and 64ch) working perfectly all this time, through mavericks and now Yosemite, too. Maybe you have another problem there, that's solvable?

My friend Rob Martino (http://robmartino.com) is a big part of the Alchemy team. Apple bought Camel Audio back in January and Rob went to work for Apple. He couldn't tell us what he was doing and we've been unsure about the fate of Alchemy. This sure answers that question and Rob tells me he's been working on this for 4 years. He is a wonderful programmer and musician who also happens to a great guy. This is great day for him and us!

That is nice to know; I really liked the folks at Camel Audio. When I reached out to them, they very nice and extremely helpful...glad to hear that at least part of the team remained gainfully employed. Best of luck to Rob and all. I love Alchemy Mobile...

Now we know why Apple didn't bother to update EXS24 when they released Logic Pro X. Very good news, and I for one think that DAWs should be priced more reasonably for the average user, so Apple's aggressive pricing for Logic is a win in my book.

  • For me, Logic is just part of the equation. I work out tracks and clips with iOS Sector, Egoist, Samplr, etc, then dump it all into Dropbox, and pick up w/ Logic when I get home. Alchemy is unreal, and working w/ Logic Remote to automate Alchemy's bounty of delicious parameters is a real treat. 8gb of ram and freezing, indeed, make the pill go down easily.

Which version of soundflower are you using? I've tried a few versions, but they all crashed...

  • I was hoping to hold out for Logic 11, cause their other synths really need an overhaul, and I was hoping to see some improvements across the board. I am currently on L9 studio, and own Alchemy. While I hate to pass up on so many Alchemy improvements, $200 is a lot to me right now, and I'll have to pay it again for the next major rev.

Well, different versions through the years, but it always worked. Wish I could help you more... . I'll look up my actual version later (macbook sleeping still).

  • The 7 gagilion presets seem to be pretty good based on a hundred or so random samples I went through last night. They are organized pretty good too and so what you want will be easy to find if your looking for something in their categories. I just love this addition to LPX.

Runs with no performance issues on my Maxed 2013 MBP Retina, 4-core i7 2.8GHz 16GB. I use 4GB for a ram disk for tmp files to prolog the life of my 1TB of SSD and speed up builds and such.

If we get Mobile Logic Pro with this, Apple pay, and a 12 inch iPad I'll be in heaven.

EXS 24 into Alchemy is genius. All my EXS 24 instruments are going to have new blood injected into them. Imagine what you can do with vocal EXS sampler instruments. Pass the juice :)

"Issue for me is I'll have to replace a perfectly good OS (Mountain Lion) with one that's (by most accounts I've read, and been told), going to make my 2012 MBP run slower and crash more."

I have a late 2012 Retina 13" MBP. If anything, the latest seems better and faster than Mountain Lion did. That's a subjective feeling, though. I have no numbers on it. Mine came with an SSD and I've since replaced it with twice the capacity (nice thing about the older models--you can actually do upgrades).

  • My download of the update had some kind of error, now it says there's no update, but my logic-version still is 10.1.1..., what can I do to get this now already?? Anybody has a clue as to what to do? Mainstage download worked fine.

  • Logic Remote with Mainstage is surprisingly functional and low-latency. And those Alchemy sounds are impressive.

Are the alchemy patches... limited in how much you can customize them in Mainstage? Or do I just need to learn how to find the settings? Arp settings? I guess I expected to find a massive page full of paramater adjustments somewhere, but have not found it yet.

Assuming you've backed all your projects up, maybe delete and reinstall?

  • I've been looking for the same...

Thanks for the confirmation. After a but of research I think the SSD is the key to success with the latest OS, so as soon as I've finished my Mac dependent work I'll whip out the steam powered thing and replace it with a proper SSD job

There's a blue 'Alchemy' button in the 'Input' row at the right side of the screen (Channel Strips area) - click it

I have the same MBP. No issues with latest OSX. Runs a treat.

I had been recording Mainstage to Logic 9 through Soundflower until a Mavericks update killed Soundflower from working properly. Anyone have any clues about that? I don't want to buy Logic X at this stage...

You can download the latest version here: https://github.com/mattingalls/Soundflower/releases

I'm on the latest Yosemite, it works just fine

    Cool. Thanks.

  • Is not only Alchemy, but is Alchemy 2.0 :-)

  • For those of you looking to buy Logic, here's where I find my iTunes card deals.
    https://mobile.twitter.com/itunescarddeals

Right now, there is a 15% off sale on an eBay auction in the U.S. (ends in 5 hours!)
For you UK residents, PayPal is having a 20% off deal! Better snatch that one up if you can becaus it rarely gets cheaper than that.

  • @monzo Good luck on the swap to SSD. Get as much capacity as you can (or can't) afford. :-)

Thanks :) I'll probably go for the 500gb, as I seem to cope ok with the standard 500gb I have. I've got some Mac critical work to finish first, but once that's done I'll be ready to upgrade. Just need to decide whether to: replace the existing HD, replace it with the SSD and start afresh, or install the SSD in the DVD drive and then use the old drive as storage.

  • @monzo said:
or install the SSD in the DVD drive and then use the old drive as storage.

Sometimes the SATA interface in the DVD drive is slower, so you may want to find out for your specific MBP. If so, be sure to put the SSD in the HDD slot, and move the HDD to the DVD caddy. You want your SSD connected to the fastest SATA interface possible.

I wondered about that, thanks for the tip. With that in mind, I think the best plan is to replace the drive with the SSD, install everything fresh, and when ready look into putting the drive into an external, or disk drive caddy for extra storage.

Thanks, I'll try that when nothing else works, since the download takes ages here... I did get in contact with support...

I tested it and it's now my new number one synth! But i hate that apple removed the tuning which still exist in version 1.55. It has hundread of scales and you can save them as part of the patch. Not in version 2 :( I don't want to tune the whole logic engine for single patches. Then..... why still so blurry UI. It's much better than version one but still far away from our "retina" UI. IPad synths looks way better for sure :)

It can hit the cpu heavy but it is maybe the most versatile synth in general. I prefer other synths for special things (even some iOS synths) but this would be my dessert island sound design tool. ESX24 import is nice too.

The additional features like the added 4 FX slots (one for each sound source if you want) and more FX slots in your path in general and the convolution reverb (yaay, with reverse, filter, eq and lots of great IR) are great and take this much further for sound design as the old version.

The additive and spectral synthesis is nice but not as good like i thought. Well, tech is limited here. The morphing between soundsources is on kyma level...... means awesome.
For just x-fade soundsources..... Mitosynth is far more advanced here ;)

And that apple gift that tool..... not bad. The synth plus the additional sounds are worth about 750€. So if you have a mac you owe it yourself to buy at least MainStage.

I often get rants over apple but this time they surprised me really. This makes Logic (and of course MainStage) an unbelievable bang for the buck. Also a lot new features and bug fixes for Logic! Love it!

Not sure about an iOS version because of the cpu hit. The iOS mobile app can also not play patches which uses resynthesis. With the coming new iPad and iPhones..... maybe.

I just wish they would expand the remote app even a lot more. It could do much more.
However, good times and i think everything will merge in the future.

    Crossplatforming all the way!

I will also make here a free soundbank if i have the time.
Here one pad patch f.e. i made quickly. As sound sources i used Mitosynth, Animoog, a field recording made with my iPhone 5..... That´s it. I even doesn´t use the remix pad here. Just playing some notes. I love when things working great together ;D
