Seem that MainStage burns down my i7 quadcore.... Logic is much more usable with the same settings. MainStage is a huge CPU-hog.

It is. But you can try experimenting with different settings (Preferences -> Audio -> Advanced settings) - maybe it will start performing better

With 1024 sample rate it´s usable but for live use it would be pretty lame. I´m a bit shocked how hot my MacBook goes after a few minutes just starting it without doing anything. This works not well together :(

Maybe Apple want to burn it down and want me to buy a new one. Still think about saving for the coming skylake MacBook pros or for that mysterious iPad Pro (but i think it will be overpriced and useless for me if it doesn´t come with at least an extended iOS pro). As midi controller the iPad Air 1 works still perfect :)

Actually, I have no complaints - it performs reasonably well on my 2012 i7 mac mini, much better than some computer games which do make the mini hot and sound like a helicopter

Strange....i experienced the retina MacBooks can be a bitch. Not sure why i bought it since there are no retina graphics in most of my tools :D

Now i wonder how good the Logic remote control app works in terms of velocity. It's like the iPad know when i hit it harder. I thought this doesn't work with our touch screen on iPad Air. But when i hit the virtual keyboard soft it plays soft (low velocity), when i hit it hard it plays hard (high velocity). No matter where i hit it. What magic is it? Maybe they messure the vibration? However, it works a lot better than i thought and better as in the older version. Not exact like real masterkeyboard but bery usable.

  • Did you find it @mgmg4871? I was impressed with the 3.8% that I've checked out.

  • Yes Russ. Im downloading now. I finally added a Mac to the arsenal.

  • Russ, have you tried Audio & Midimux?

  • Yes to Midimux, but not a full dive yet. Do they work well for you? I also have the iConnect M2, but even that has been collecting dust. I think it's great, but just haven't had the time to get my money's worth from it.

I do feel that the closer we get to integrating the platforms, the better we'll be as a result. MainStage is a beast, and to couple that with some iOS apps just opens all the doors.

  • I agree. I haven't had a chance to check them out yet, but will have some time this weekend. Colin at TSTR did a good video of Audiomux & Midimux.

O.k.... now i found a giant bug... they fucked me up again : P After the update all my self created scales inside the midi FX transposer are away (i put all the ThumbJam scales by hand in it...fuck). I also can´t edit anymore a user scale. It always stays chromatic. I just can use the Logic included scales. WTF?!?

    Anyone else?

Also Space Designer reverse doesn´t work anymore. There are a lot more bugs. Again i was wrong.... this update is full of new even more bad bugs than before. What a crapple ;)

I just hope the Auria beta team makes a better job!

Anyone knows if i can go back to the previous version. Not sure since i updated trough the store ?

This is not acceptable for me...even not for free. Seems it was a hurry release in beta stage!

Edit: The same odd bugs in MainStage. DISSAPOINTED!!!

These have been mentioned on the LogicProHelp forum, which I tried to link but is being held for review in the spam filter, so check that site out. Looks like there are quite a few little bugs.

I think they released this before finishing a deeper integrated scale system, mainly because now in the piano roll, the scale quantize option now has a "custom" option at the bottom of its scale list which I don't remember being there before, and having checked a few logic videos seems to have verified it to me that it wasn't.

Well, I've tried clicking it and it doesn't seem to work just like the transposer one doesn't, so I have to assume they are making a universal and much better custom scale system, which would be very cool.

I was always annoyed by this, so would resort to using midi out of ableton instead, since their scale plugin, when used with automation points, is a many, many, many times better approach.

Maybe the Logic team are working on an upgraded scale plugin of some sort.

Yes, but this bugs are huge for me and destroys a lot of my projects where i used the transposer plug-ins a lot and other things which doesn't work anymore like they should. And why should they hurry and release an unfinished product?
I lost weeks of work.....f...... i don't make a living from it but i wasted so much time for nothing now.
I think i should consider at least a second huge DAW since i don't believe in apple to solve this in near future and it not good to focus on one DAW it seems. Bitwig looks interesting and is not too expensive. Maybe i try it.

  • What about Cubase? I hear it's quite popular among film score composers. The starter version is just $100 so you are not gonna loose a lot of money if it won't work for you for any reason

  • Well, the first thing to do if you continue using Logic is to save your current version before you download the new one, and there are articles for the step by step instructions online.

The Logic updates have been coming out fairly regularly now, so I have more hope that it will be addressed soon.

That said, I think it essential to have another DAW, even if it is just Ableton Lite, which you could get access to just by having Korg's Gadget.

I know :( but i don´t have the space to save all that tools. Another thing i really dislike the trend to downlaod only. My net is so slow i need days for such contents. I still love to have large files on DVD as backup.

I can get Abelton lite.....? I have Gadget but never use it ;)

    You should be able to.

Open Gadget > Click File icon

    then:

Export > Ableton Live Project > Get free Ableton Live Lite

Great.... why i never saw this ; ) 79 bucks for free.... great deal! I don´t like so far what i saw about Abelton live but i will give it a try for sure now :) Thank you!
I also got Sample Tank 3 for a lot less money because i had the iOS version. IOS is also a good way to get desktop tools for low money ;)
I would like to see BeatMaker 3 since i know it will also have an OS X version. Who knows... maybe my next DAW :)
I find it pretty interesting to have exact the same things across devices.... no lite, no limit.... whatever. Just working where it feels home in the moment.
But i wonder if BM3 OSX will have some extra features like AU support?

Oh..... and i forgot about the coming FL-Studio mobile 3 which will be available as plug-in too. I really respect all the iOS only DAW's but it's time to think about if it's good to focus on one (unstable) mobile OS.

I was expecting bigger DAW's coming too iOS maybe but it looks that it goes more the other way..... we see more little iOS DAW's coming to desktop. I welcome this of course!

  • Every software release has bugs. Not a deal breaker here. There's many ways to get the same results. Many tricks of the trade.

No mercy from me.... "every software has bugs" maybe true but not if they break your workflow complete or whole projects. And i get tired of beta testing an "end product".

I know, i know.... i can't change it. But consumers are easy to make happy today.

  • Finally updated my Macbook Pro OS today, so I could then update Logic. Just been playing through the Alchemy presets....all I can say is....I think I might be neglecting the iPad for the next week or so...

  • ^ I know I did.

    Wow-lchemy!

    +1

I only have the free version on the iPad. Completely blown away by the version on Logic - just silly. I'll test the iPad controller out with it later - be nice if it'll tweak the x/y pads

  • oh and in a few weeks if you get bored you can download another 14+ GB of samples for Alchemy. ...for free :)

and YES, Logic Remote allows you to use iPad to tweak the x/y pads. So good.

I've only got Mainstage, but its the same synth. Just ridiculous the amount of sounds available.

Its accessible from the download extra content menu in Logic, if you have never downloaded the extra content, then happy downloading its a huge amount in total, or just grab what you want.

Brilliant, been a while since I used Logic, thanks.

Just been mucking about with the free iPad Logic controller - provides full control over the Alchemy pads, so very similar to using the iOS version. Also discovered the fretboard controller - forgot about that one too - great for guitarists like me.
