3 - The option for “long press” as a gesture (you have many other gestures to chose from…but long press is a “natural” one in my opinion)

I'd be cool with that; it'd stop you being able to hold the track down and release it when you're ready to record/etc, which you can right now, but as long as it's not default behaviour it'd be fine.

So my guess is that it already supports 'record while holding down' which is the default Koala behavior :sunglasses:
(the other one being tap to start recording and tap again to stop, if possible with sync options for 'perfect loops').

It's very hard not to get the brain cooking with ideas but my gut tells me most of the ideas are already on to to-do list just waiting for a free time-slot for implementation...

Needless to say the hype is building up quite nicely already :)

It works differently in its default behavior: you hold one loop and he waits until you are ready. Once you remove your finger, it starts recording.

But I suppose in the infinite menu choice, you could also make it work as koala. Let me try 😉

Yes you can make it behave like koala. The only problem is (for the moment) the only way I found to make it work like this is to change the loop behavior from Toggle to Hold to play, but once the recording is done you have to change it back, or it won’t play with a single press.

Could be another possible implementation for the gestures menu…”Hold to record” without changing the whole loop behavior…maybe with 2 fingers so that the normal “start recording after I release my finger” feature is not overlapped

Well, that behavior works as well...
Is there any quick way to 'cancel' the recording? (ie. if I hold it a longer period waiting for something to happen it could get get tricky if the pad needs to be deleted before a new sound can be recorded).

I know my reaction to start recording is not always super fast so a 'pre-roll buffer' could potentially solve this?
(ie. it records a bit before I actually start recording, kinda like the 'live picture' on the iPhone where the camera records a few seconds before the actual shutter is released).

    Need to stop now...

If I’ve seen well in the options menus, all your requests are already there…it’s just a matter of how YOU set it up for your user case 😉

Believe me: Michael is WAAAAY ahead and already thought of all our needs (almost 😏)

And, yes, if you hold your finger there for half an hour hoping for a Miles Davis “So What? moment” to happen but no miracle came out, is enough to move your finger out of the loop and nothing will be recorded.

But you don’t even have to do that: remember? Retrospective Record is in there 😉

Yeah you can swipe across a track to cancel.

That's partly what the auto loop detection is for, as a bit of a crutch - it'll try to find a rhythmic loop in what you record, even if you're out. Ultimately it's better to just get good at starting and stopping on time, if one's getting serious, but for casual use it's pretty good.

Oh yes…I forgot the WONDERFUL auto loop detection…it is FANTASTIC, you’ll see

This comes out at the touch of a light bulb after the recording is done…and you can chose between different options

Believe me…I own a Boss RC 505 (which IS fantastic) but at 400+ bucks, it doesn’t have a fraction of the abilities that Loopy Pro puts at your fingertips

  • It's looking good from the photos but I agree about the Faux "Blooming" (Glow) being unnattractive :)
It's even been a recent complaint that the newer ipad XDR screens are doing this too much in reality as a screen fault. https://www.macrumors.com/2021/05/24/users-notice-blooming-on-ipad-pro-xdr-display/

I don’t want my previous post to be misunderstood: it was a joke about how many hours I spent in front of loopy till late in the night.
The UI isn’t disturbing at all, at least to me.
But…every eye is different…imagine someone said that Naomi Campbell was ugly, back in the days…

Nothing to do with your post, it's just not a good idea to add an effect which the ipad screen does naturally anyway (so you can get double the effect of faux-blooming+real bloom) but I'm glad there'll be an option to disable it :)

    A question,
It will most probably receive flack but it’s a genuine question.

Using a midi foot controller, is it possible to hit record,
it starts recording at the beginning of the bar and
with the second press it stops recording and immediately loops.
The next midi press clears the loop and starts recording at the next bar.

The humble Audiokit L7 had this ability but is incredibly unstable.

Is there a way to open effect chains (directly from the main screen) with the guis of the plug-in, like when you create them? it’s crazy, when you open proQ3 with all those parameters as faders… graphical Uis make sense sometimes ;-)

is there a way to take Instruments from CPU/turning them off? Even from the mainscreen?

Is it possible to mute inputs from the mainscreen? This is so important when you deal with multiple Instruments… Muting from the settings window crackles, as it turns off the input completely. A mute would be enough.

  • Re. The glowing ui, photos don’t really do it justice. This interface animates smoothly, pulses, shakes, all depending on what you’re doing. It’s not just a cheap effect, it’s all functional to bring your attention to elements that are required.
The save animation is a particular favourite.

I’d reserve your judgement until you’re using it (and then you can just turn it off with the slider that @Michael has added by the looks of things 😁)

I think everything you mentioned is possible, even if I haven’t yet started testing with my foot controllers (too much to discover before coming to that).

As I said before to Samu, you can say to Loopy Pro what YOU want him to do, not the opposite.

About the last part (next midi press to start recording a new loop) there’s an option in the record menu where you can tell it what to do if a track has already audio in it, and one of the options is Rerecord. So…I don’t even know if Follow Actions is necessary for this task

But remember…in this beast you can have as many loops as you want, so no need to delete a previous take…you could simply mute it and record on a new loop

Well…”just” a BlueBoard will not be enough…you know, 4 buttons vs many more and sliders in the 505…and too many possibilities in Loopy Pro to force them in just 4 buttons…

Unless you also use your hands on the screen and learn to play your instruments Hendrix style with your teeth (but even if possible with a guitar, I can foresee some problems learning teeth piano playing or teeth congas action 😉)

Though @Edward_Alexander has a Blueboard, he also has an LP X which
can provide enough buttons especially combined with the custom modes.

I also have a similar rig, instead of the Blueboard I have a Line 6 FBV Express mkii

My use case if you’re curious? I will be using the FBV mkii for when I’m recording
bass, guitars and various percussion and the LP X will be for when I’m recording vocals.
Combined with the LC XL I think that would be more than enough.

I predict one thing loopy pro will be used for is to create custom control surfaces for other apps. There is a huge graphic and routing flexibility as well as grouping.

This, with extensive touch options is going to be amazing.

Dust off your old devices to use as control surfaces!

    This is all very good

Possibly also as a custom control surface and intermediate layer for other looping hardware. That’s certainly on my mind.

Cool screenshot. Do the 'labels' rotate with the loops?
(That would be a cool but totally unnecessary animation :sunglasses: )

And another totally crazy but cool feature would be to be able to 'scratch the discs', connect a slider to a mute/crossfade function for transformer/gate effects etc. etc.

Too easy to come up with feature-creep, that's for sure...

In these pictures you can see many things

…from how you can see UI as you want (very small to just keep an eye on it or very big to use them)
…to how you can open many instances of an fx and point them to different tracks, so you can turn on (in this case) the reverb on some tracks when you need it there and then turn it off on these tracks to turn it on on others (naturally also with different settings, if you need so)…you can see it from the different colors on the bottom of every reverb instance
