    Ahh, gotcha! So Audulus comes with a bunch of control surfaces like this one that my colleague Jerry Smith made:

    You can use multitouch on this, and it has some cool randomization functions. The things from Rozeta could conceptually be built into Audulus, though it might take some time figuring out how it works. I made a sequencer a while back that seemed to do something similar to the Hadron Collider that was driven by LFOs, it was like this below - you have an X and a Y sequencer and those can output by themselves and then you get a third sequence that only happens whenever X lands with Y on the same step, and it samples the value of that step at that moment.

    As far as sequencing goes, you are pretty much unlimited by anything except your time used to build them.

    Yeah some kind of generative midi patch would go down well!

    Good to know - that's all the type of sequencing I love to do. So most people are just saying they want to use their external synths with cool sequencers in Audulus that you can just tweak some parameters of and let it run and it will create endless variety? I can make that happen :)

    Yeah I think both the MIDI Input and Output needs a bit of a tweak. Others have brought this up in the Discord as well.

    Just uploaded a new episode of Wired Up with Mark where I build a Sequential Switch module from scratch. If you're interested in learning how to build modules, this is a really great video to start with as it explains a lot about the process from conception, to building a UI, and finally wiring together the innards. It's long, but watch it on x2 speed if you can.

    By the end of the day I should have finished captions for all of the Audulus 4 videos on our channel, so if you're hard of hearing or speak English as a second language, turning on those can help.

    Having spent only little time on this, it’s pretty clear that the capability is there, just need a framework/modules for a midi effect plugin within the AUv3 which incorporates the relevant input, frequency conversion between midi notes / cc’s, and output of the midi data. I can already get midi in and out, with sequence in between.

    Cool, I will focus early next year on building some capable MIDI modules for everyone to use. I'll also make sure to make them videos like the one above (and the new one below) so that if people are interested they can really understand the modules from a fundamental level, and perhaps make cooler and better ones than I come up with.

    After I get done with the ironing you can see in the basket behind me in the above video, I will finish off the Sequential Switch and upload it to the forum. This morning I recorded another Wired Up episode, this time showing people how to create and manage polyphony within Audulus.

    Ah great stuff, especially on Boxing Day! I only got a short way through your lpg tutorial, it was something I’d started building myself but I think yours looks a bit more focused than where I was heading…I’ll finish it once the in laws are banished 😅

    I'm glad you're enjoying that tutorial! I think I will probably add a combo VCA mode to that as well come to think of it. It's super basic and you could definitely add something to make it more musically fun like a drive section at the input or output (pre or post filter).

    And yeah - so much Christmassy stuff going on here and yet I've been champing at the bit to get back to this big project I'm working on myself. I'm redoing all of the submodules in Audulus so that they're all properly documented, after which I will then redo the entire library using these so that everything is 100%, node-by-node documented so you can drop into any module and know exactly how and why it does what it does.

  • Would really appreciate some nice 5 star reviews in the iOS store especially since there are some users who are using 1/2 star reviews as support complaints, and even though we've helped them, they're not changing their reviews. Really helps and just takes a few seconds! :)

  • Speaking of MIDI interest, as some were a couple days ago, I am interested in creating simple MIDI adapters and transformers in Audulus. Scale quantizers, channel filters, arpeggiators, loopers, velocity dampers, CC modulators.

    The kind of thing I might grab StreamByter or Mozaic or Rozeta for now. Not that I want to replace these fine tools, but if I'm in an Audulus frame of mind, I don't want to leave it, and I think that if I knew how to tweak MIDI in Audulus then it would be a small step to MIDI generation - which I am also interested in.

  • I accidentally bought this yesterday, which is probably a good thing, but thank goodness for the tutorials. A lot to watch just for a basic understanding. Such an amazing beast though.

    That's awesome! Yes, it is a very deep program, and there's a lot you can do with it, but it doesn't mean you have to do everything that you could do with it. I plan on making some more just plug 'n' play synths that you can open up and jam with also, no connecting anything required.

    The tutorials I'm doing are perhaps a little more geared to people who already know a bit about modular synthesis, but these tutorials from Sound For More are a fantastic place to start if you're totally totally green. He walks you through everything really slowly step by step and you can't err with this series.

    I suspect that the MIDI Fighter Twister was in omni mode. What that would mean is that it ignore the channel number of incoming signals -- it would still use the assigned channel for outgoing messages.

    On iOS, the free Streambyter app is a convenient tool to have as it can load as a standalone app or AUv3. While it is intended as a MIDI manipulation/scripting app, it also is a great MIDI monitor. You can send output from Audulus to it to confirm what I've said.
