Agree, I have reading glasses, still can't read the tiny text
Might be easier for the dev. to add an option for old farts and fat finger people.. Jesus those keys are too small.. PB3 Remix pads were better..
Yep the demo is good to justify the pricing.. should be adopted by other developers to get the value for their products..
I've not been following drum machines for a while. What are the best from 2024 and how does Playbeat4 meet or beat them?
Patterning 3 is also great but quite a different beast to Playbeat. It doesn't help you generate patterns the way Playbeat does, but it is excellent at creating subtly shifting, organic drum and percussion loops, with many ways to introduce variation and randomness. Patterning 3 allows you to subtly alter or automate a wide range of sound parameters on the fly. Patterning's randomisation doesn't currently include creating kits (AFAIK) or patterns, but once you choose these, you can create excellent results using the various randomsation tools.
Also coming up soon is Unfiltered Audio Battalion, which is going to be a powerhouse in its own right, with multiple synthesis engines, and a ton of other features, but it again will have its own way of doing things.
Playbeat 4 seems to excel in idea generation and creating starting points for exploration, and from playing with it for a short it is very immediate and a lot of fun, and generates a lot of very musical results.
I just use Playbeat for almost everything these days. It does a great job with exporting STEMS and i just love the sounds of the drums and the feature set of the app.
I’m all about simplicity and efficiency in my workflow and the AudioModern apps just work for me and how i like to create.
I also love how they look on screen and they run great on iPadOS and macOS for me.

I started using Playbeat and felt I had an echoopera vibe going instantly ;-) Just add some lfo-filter and do some slicing …

This. The randomization options are top notch, easy to make your own variations in sound and pattern, with musical results and fast workflow for storing snapshots to keys.
How is 4 better than 3? Why update?
My guess is it's just rule-based randomization.
100% no load/crash rate though, when building a template in Drambo.
So not usuable for now.

Iv found the issue.
When you choose a genre, then unalocate genre with the red button ( next to the arrow to get back )
This will crash 100% of saves.
It's a disappointing discovery, and maybe it's not everyone. But, just having glasses doesn't bring back my eyesight to where it used to be. There are still plenty of things I can't see with glasses that my kids can read or see for me. Glasses just make it possible to function, to a degree.
True. Also, many of us use varifocals, which are not even ideal for using with things like ipads mounted on a stand, as they're generally designed for reading things held the way you'd hold a book. Larger fonts are simply a better design choice all round to appeal to a large variety of users, and less likely to cause eye strain.
Try saving a preset inside loopy. I was able to save presets in AUM...

Then undo the red box by tapping red box.
Use arrow next to red box to exit this screen view.
Save project.
By my calculations, it will crash every time.

Other than a little better included samples and more color in the interface... It doesn't seem that much better than 3 to me. They're "A.I." doesn't seem all that much different than the randomization 3 already has.

It appears as though the iPad OS version works fine as an AUv3 in Logic on an (M1) Mac, obviating the need to buy the desktop version. IAP unlock works fine. This pleases me. Will test more.

I dig the app. For some reason it appears more intuitive than 3… I’m not sure why. But I have been able to do more things without much thought on 4.
I am encountering an issue when using the “remix” functionality to create different patterns, not generating remixes but working with them once created. 1, The pitch changes every time I open the project, even after saving. This is annoying as hell!! And 2, I can’t find the way to sequence multiple “remixes”, is there a way to this? Currently I press the key where I saved each remix but that means I have to focus on that app instead of others. I would like to automate the patterns and not have to worry about manually switching them.
@sigma79 - Have you checked the DSP utilization when running those instances? I have an iPad Pro M1 model and it is showing 30-50% DSP on one PB4 instance vs. 3-6% for a factory preset in PB3. Mine is still not unlocked though, if that matters. I’m very curious to know how to your project compares. I’ve seen DSP spikes cause crashes in the past myself.
There is a dsp spike, I noticed. When pressing the main round button. 0-99% etc.
This is multiout though.
If you go to genre page. Select a genre. The red square will then highlight. If you then switch of the red sqaure. Then exit page with the arrow next to red sqaure. If you then save and reload. It will then crash.
Each load is a crash because of the process described.
Theres no way to use app until fixed.
At .44 is what causes it to crash upon loading. The red thing lights up because you choose a genre. Unchoosing a genre or pressing the red sqaure ( I think ) then exiting screen, will cause it to not load if you host save.
Confirmed - it crashes for me with a single instance using the same procedure.

FYI - From what I can tell by comparing the Audiomodern site before and after, the new Playbeat 4 comes with almost all of the soundpacks that were available for Playbeat 3, including the paid ones, which would have added up to 30 euros if you bought them all. There appears to be one that is no longer listed called Grids, and there are three new packs available for purchase.
The information is gathered in the table below. Also, based on a random selection of presets, it looks like some of the preset names are similar to the previous packs ("Niner" for example), but many others that I checked had no match under the PB3 name in PB4. Needless to say, there's a very large number of presets and sounds included in PB4.
**Please let me know if you see any discrepancies.
