Yeah, keep ‘em coming. We need a thread full of art of all kind. 👍
Agreed 💯 mate! I'm glad I thought to create this thread as a celebration of visual creativity. 🥰
Working with oil pastels is a bit too sticky for me and also quite difficult, but, someone gave me a bunch some years back and I recalled a technique from, I think as early as kindergarten: I'm sure you are familiar with it but if not, try it:
You fill the whole white space with various bright colours, it can be a rainbow or just random or even a gradient. Then you paint it all over with a layer of black (and see to that it covers all). Then you take a spatula or a fork, whatever (not too sharp) and start scratch away to reveal the underlaying layer of colours - it's a very gratifying technique and loads of fun. I'm looking at the only one I did as I'm writing this.
Love abstracts! Which is funny because I really, really despised it when younger and it sometimes even upset me 😅. Now it's almost all I do when painting (which I can't do much due to pain issues).
@Pxlhg Oh yeah, the sgraffito technique! I will try that one I buy better quality oil pastels for sure! The ones I'm currently using are cheap Blick Essentials oil pastels, not Sennelier's. 😂 Once I do manage to buy more expensive pastels, I will definitely do sgraffito.
The only one you did as you're writing this, and you (currently) haven't taken a screenshot? 😂 Don't be a tease, mate.
As a youth, I used to hate Abstract art too. Being Autistic, I always thought literally, rarely figuratively. Over the years I've trained my brain to think more in grey areas, that not everything is black and white. Then the more I opened my mind, the more I took to Experimental Music and Modern Art (including Abstract Art). It's quite exhilarating actually!
Ha ha, it's on my wall and I'm not having a good photo light (night and now early morning) but okay, here's a bad shot but you get the idea, I do not remember the whole process but I obviously have done more than scratching:

Oh, that’s a cool one. Nice.
oooo that’s something ! Would easily put this on my wall too … very much like 👍👍👍

Great thread @jwmmakerofmusic
So many artists here, who would have thought 😂
A portrait I drew of my mother when I was 10-12 I dunno

That's terrible. My Grandfather definitely ignited my love of timber work but school was where I got to spend time learning the hand skills to be able to work accurately and neatly.
I also coded the app, which is only made available very rarely.
Some of my 3D art:

And my comic, which I've posted about before:

Some great art there, everyone! Hey @NeuM, didn’t know you were an artist too, good drawings! Is the old version of Art Set worth getting at all? It’s only 2.99, I only have $8 bucks left on my gift card. I’m liking what I see with Zen Brush 3.
I use to kind of look down on abstract art, the way some classical music people look down on jazz (if you’ve played symphony gigs you’ll know what I mean). But then I got a temporary solo gig playing music in an abstract art center. When I wasn’t playing, the super nice and genius artist owner would show me around and explain the deep meaning and creative process behind each piece, totally opened my eyes to the art form.
I also do more straightforward 3D stuff:

I love this. Awesome
Awesome, @richardyot! Ah, now I see where you got your avatar image.
@Pxlhg That is so beautiful! Good god, and yes I understand it was not an ideal lighting situation, but the art still shines through! Great usage of sgraffito, nice interplay of colours, and I love how it seems like a scene from outer space but not explicitly so. ❤️
@u0421793 Lol! That's a funny quote. Did you draw the sketch though?
Looks amazing.
@pedro I think that's very well made!
Has aspects of Cubism to be honest. I love your portrait. Hope to see more from you.
@Ailerom Agreed. Not only did the schools arbitrarily remove Shop Class, they also removed Driver's Ed from highschool. (I mean, removing Driver's Ed would account for over half the shit drivers on the road. 🤣 )
@zoltan Living art! That's bloody brilliant, mate! Honestly? I hope someday you'll put the app for sale, whether under Quantovox or under a separate entity. I'd definitely support.
@richardyot
The second piece of your 3D collection is where your current PFP comes from?! 😃 And your art, both stylised 3D, "Gideon Gray", and straightforward 3D works are so well made! I must ask, which app(s) did you use for your 3D art?
@Dav Oh god, I shamefully admit I used to look down at Abstract Art too. 🫣 The reasons I took a liking to Abstract Art are...
Once I understood this about Abstract and Modern Art, the more my brain exploded with ideas and imagination. Lately, Abstract art has become an obsession, which is why I bought cheap oil pastels and cheap mixed media paper last week. Finally attempted my first two pieces yesterday.
i enjoy all kinds of art
Amazing works from all.
It's a very cool app that I do use every now and then to do moving backgrounds (it's an early step where in the end you've wouldn't know your app is used). Sometimes I just play around with the colours, pretty and relaxing.
I did not know it's on and off the market, think I got it when it was quite fresh.
@richardyot Amazing models and renders and still using Modo* huh, I feel money seeping out of my pocket just mentioning them (way way over the top for an amateur dicking about)
*I thought you pretty much abandoned them for Blender.
Thanks! The version of Art Set I have is version 4 and I bought the in-app purchase ("Unlock All") some time ago, so I'm not sure how much that would cost today, but I like it more than many of the other paint programs. It's a bit like the desktop version of Corel Painter I used so many years ago (which eventually became so slow and expensive I gave it up in favor of iPadOS apps). I haven't tried Zen Brush 3, but when you find a good Sumi-E brush app, keep it. Some of the simulations are quite good, but I don't remember what the names of those apps were.
I like all kinds of art and have had a hand in using many styles myself. Only thing I've not done much of is sculpting with physical materials (clay/stone/metal), but I did take classes for 3-D modeling and animation (using Alias PowerAnimator on massive in-house networked computers) from a guy who worked on the animation for the movie "Godzilla" (the one with Matthew Broderick). Afterward I found I really did not want to become an animator for the rest of my life.
Focused primarily on the visual arts mainly with painting and installation. Started getting into sound through my installations and video art but now that I am design manager at a museum dealing with visuals all day, I've been obsessed with sound. One of my installations that included visuals, video, and sound:

Very cool, Mike.
Thanks both (and @Dav of course)
Most of my work was created with Modo, but I have since transitioned to Blender, Modo was discontinued last year.
Some superb work here, amazingly talented people… I’m a woody sort of person myself, this is some of my work…

And a few more…

Those are awesome, @GeoTony! What a cool chess set.
@eross Me too. ☺️ If you have any art, share it here.
@dblonde Thank you, mate.
Same deal as Eross, share your art here if you've any.
@NeuM I'm definitely going to dig back into Art Set 4. Never knew the app existed, but as I said, I must've forgotten since I already have it, lol.
@mikewb That is amazing! I do love a good installation, and that one in particular looks like I could sit in it all day, vibe out, and not get bored. Job well done!
Off topic (sort of on-topic) question - which app(s)/software do you use for your all-day sound? Wotja?
@richardyot I'm sorry to hear Modo was discontinued, but Blender was a really great piece of software when I used to have a Windows laptop ages ago.
@GeoTony This woodworking art is incredibly stunning, from the collection of spoons, to the intricate chess board!
Job well done!
