That’s good to know. I have 3 monitors working great with my macbook, if i decided to use this way the real estate isn’t a problem at least! Thanks
Love all the opinions on the doomed business model here. Its #3 in music apps in the US store today. I think they’ll do fine.
I bought it without hesitation. I just love fugue machine classic more than any other sequencer.
Now, however, I’m having a problem, as it just sending on one channel in aum, seemingly.
Anybody else get this error?
The old school iOS folks probably don't qualify for pearl-clutching (too expensive!). Let's call it "plastic bead clutching". Mr Rubato is a unique and compelling app in a marketplace that sees a lot of similar solutions.
I know this thread has departed from the app itself and is now on the topic of what happens when an app is this price, but… Another aspect of setting this kind of price is that sales won’t all be bunched up in the first day or first weekend due to drunk buying, they’re more likely to be long-tailed over the big duration and amount to serious sales from people who really use the product
Hrmmm...the Bundle is $60.00.
Not sure if that's the correct price, since that price doesn't seem like a Discount for users coming from Fugue Machine Classic.
Fugue Machine Classic is $19.99, so I'm not sure if this Bundle Price is correct....hrmm...
I pinged the developer on IG to ask about the pricing of the Bundle.
For my part in this, it's the lack of demo feasibility and refund reliability. I buy things (a) to figure out if it's something I'll use and (b) because the current general pricing model allows impulse buying. Quite a bit doesn't make the cut. If apps become expensive that stops. Same with any company that has a no demo, no refund policy.
If there was a way to demo, yes sure, raise prices and probably lose sales. Without a demo, keep prices so low that a purchase doesn't leave a bad taste that impacts the current purchase practice, i.e. buy a lot, learn a little.
Example, I was able to testflight Rubato. At the current price, with a demo, it's a no way ever purchase. If it was released at $15 I would have bought it. So, from just me, the only way there is income is the low price model.
Yes, but that's on you right? You had the opportunity to thoroughly investigate the product via the demo yes? And then bought it.
Rubato is different in that without the Testflight it would have relied on an impulse buy or youtube. Without Testflight, much greater risk when buying something you have not used.
My thoughts are: High price = Demo needed. Current pricing model = I'm happy to take a small hit every now and the to wind up with a few gems. And along the way I've supported developers that I would not have, if not for lower prices.
Hmmm… but I use the Scaler AU in Ableton, no problem 🧐 I’m probably mixing up AU with AUV3 lol
I haven’t seen it yet hit the store. And I seem to recall you and I are relatively “local”
I was firmly in the "you've got to be ...'ing kidding me" camp, but I went ahead and installed the testflight - a bloody brilliant idea, by the way - and now I'm really seriously considering it. This is the most involved generative composition tool I've ever seen in this environment.
I’m just gonna get FL Studio , a laptop , use my iPad as a remote and for fl studio mobile and get fl cloud for $12 a month… and never pay for an upgrade again. . BOO-YAHHH!!!
That’s the spirit!
He replied on IG that there was an error on the page. The developer is fixing it.
Current price on my end is…
lol. Here we go again…
Same here. Which is interesting since I purchased Classic at 9.99. But I’ll take it. I’m going for it.
At that price it’s a hard pass.
I do really appreciate the dev providing a demo. I wish more apps had demos. I'm somewhat purchase-averse and I'd probably buy more apps if I could try them. Not this one, though. It's very cool and clearly well designed and powerful, but I think I'd rather stick to my drambo creations. But still, props for the demo.
This thing is amazing, a technical tour de force.
A shame about the rancor and outrage by a few who apparently think another person’s creation should be made available to them at the price they deem appropriate — and that asking a higher price is a sign of character deficiency on the part of the Dev.
Get the GAS under control, and you will be much happier in the long run then you will be if this is just reduced by 20 or $30, even if it’s given away for free. Prices don’t make you miserable. Prices don’t kill people, GAS does, imo
The discussion in this thread is great, even though (or maybe exactly because) 90% of the post have nothing to do with the app itself.
Yeah it's a perfectly fine price for a desktop plugin. However, it would've probably been much better for everyone if there were three different apps and a bundle. I've sold my Macs, and even if I hadn't, the Mac version is AUv3 only, so I still wouldn't be able to use it.
Of course, it's up to the developer to decide on the pricing model, and I respect their decision. I just really dislike the idea of sharing one app purchase for multiple platforms, and I wish Apple made it easier for developers to offer separate versions and a bundle.
Having read the remaining pages, I retract my statement. It's absolutely not okay to blame and attack the developer, whatever price they decide to set, it's up to them.

There’s a few settings that I’m still trying to figure out myself, but I did discover in addition to the midi output settings in the obvious area, there’s also a “per play head” setting here that makes a difference. (If you haven’t found it yet)
Grab the circled handle and drag to the left.
Oh I’m sticking to my Drambo creations also, and having an optional proper multi-MIDI out creative sequencer is icing on the cake.
Btw, it works amazingly well set up like this on the MAIN with each of the 8 MIDI outputs routed to their respective Drambo track modules.
Developer makes a product and releases it to the public.
Potential customers discuss if the price is too high or if the product is good value.
Sounds fair enough to me.
In the end, the market will decide.
What synths are people using this with? I plan to grab it in on Friday so I might as well set up a few patches.
Exactly it’s called free speech.
That being said after messing with I know I have be to purchase. It’s an incredibly deep app.
Best with plucky type sounds or snappy stuff with short release times like the sound used in the app itself in standalone, imo. Pity actually there is not an instrument version of the AUv3 as I'm pretty fond of that sound! The AUv3 is midi only, unless I'm missing something
Hehe, what about Elastic OSC, has a lot of plucky sounds in there
Steep price, but great sequencer. I’m still on the fence but really enjoying the demo. It obviously works best with plucked sounds, like those from Stringlab or RingsFX.
Indeed, a good choice haha
