  • Was going to download, now won’t. Will gladly pay for an app or an upgrade I deem necessary.

    No subs, ever.

    Best of luck.

I hadn't seen this point refuted yet. That seems to not be true for me. I can load PD in LP2 as AUv3 and it behaves as expected - for the included drummer, beats, and kits.

Personally I think a better model would have been a modest cost for the "free" portion and IAPs for more drummers, beats, and kits.

For me, the best "sub" model is the one used by Loopy Pro.

I agree completely, although as you allude to Loopy Pro does not use a subscription model.

Michael spent a lot of time and care figuring out the optimal way to price/sell his software on the app store several years ago.

It boggles my mind that other iOS/iPad developers (especially ones who are often talked about on Michael's forums) are not switching over to the model he pioneered on iOS/iPadOS (which as discussed in many previous threads is actually the same model as desktop software had back in the 1980s).

  • I like the visualization of the kit. I like the layout for AUv3 implementation. It won’t work with other drum apps when routing in AUM though.

@LuisMartinez said they need more income to sustain the business, but the sad reality is that they will actually lose income over this rather than generate more.

Please just go back to your old model before you go out of business.

I love your apps, but this ain't it.

It's listed as under the subscription model. Did not work as an expected AUv3 would on my system on AUM.

IE, no state saving, and other things you can save in a project. It LOADS in but those other things do nto work as I expected. WIll try a sub (one month) when it finally actually works (that section is still broken) and make a final assessment.

So no midi out then? Have you checked with a midi monitor? If it does put out midi notes, then it's likely that the notes it's putting out just aren't the ones the other app is expecting.

Probably the main reason more devs don’t do this is that it required a lot of work to implement.

I have no idea about what this "a lot of work to implement" is.

Does that mean there's a lot custom coding involved to somehow make it work?

Or does it mean there's several hours or more of extra work to set things up in the App Store?

Or something in between, and if so what exactly?

How much more work? I'm sure other developers would like to know.

I don’t know the number of hours. Much more than several hours. Lots of custom coding needed as the App Store isn’t set up for this model.

  • It doesn't take much imagination at all for me to imagine all the complexities of managing such a system. I've often pondered how in the heck it's even possible.

  • Just tested midi in AUM as AU sending to Drum Session and it worked perfectly <3

Just make sure to set PD midi page on the bottom of screen there are 2 buttons . Control Midi Map and Notes Midi Map. Select the Notes Midi Map and select the Send Notes, drag Snare buttons also and make sure in the Jam Box if same page that Send is enabled. In AUM midi matrix set PD to Send midi to Drum Session. In Drum Session in settings set midi source to All, midi channel to Omni.

    Hope it helps!

Well ... rumor has it Michael just bought a 145m yacht and was last seen cruising the Caribbean, so maybe ...

  • As usual, great sounding drums! I don’t do subscription apps either, but I wish you munch success with pop drummer, and thanks for all the great previous purchasable drum apps you’ve made. I’ve bought most of your apps and enjoy them very much.

Looks like pop drummer IAA works without subscription, so I can at least get a beat going with it in AUM.

  • I made a big deal in the past about lack of auv3. Plenty of people said it couldn't be done, and yet here it is. Unfortunately, still no auv3 for the many people like me who don't do subscriptions.

  • Oh well. I've bought three of the Lumbeat apps, and I've waited and hoped for years for AUv3, so subscription is a big disppointment. I've been checking every day to see if Pop Drummer was released. I don't think surprising your user base with unwelcome news after all the anticipation is a nice thing to do. I won't subscribe, it's time for me to move on- Playbeat, One Shot, Octachron, (hopefully) Tekno...

  • @wim said:
Sorry @LuisMartinez - I understand why the subscription model seems the best model for you. However, no amount of features will ever get me to pay subscriptions for individual apps such as this. It's not about the money, it's about the un-manageability of potentially dozens of subscriptions piling up. That's all I'll say about it, and I only do so in the spirit of constructive marketing feedback.

I wish you the best of success though. Congratulations on the release.

Exactly. There are enough expenses in this world. How many intravenous feeds do business owners think people can keep track of before they just lose track and wonder where all their money is going. Personally, I think it's evil. I really like these drum apps so I guess my only hope is that the sub model fails and Luis comes crawling back to the low life scum like me that are happy to pay up front.

Hi! we’ve seen the subscription error and the euro pricing glitch, and we’re already fixing them. Will be available very soon.

We’ve spent over a year rebuilding Pop Drummer from the ground up to bring you AUv3 support.
With a subscription, we can keep the app alive, constantly updated, and improving, while also working to bring our other drum apps to AUv3 in a sustainable way. Otherwise, it just wouldn’t be possible.

This change means more updates, more features, and more features for you.
Thanks again for the feedback and for understanding!

Glad you’re at least here engaging with the community and in terms of ‘understanding’, “it takes two to tango” and I hope this thread gives you as a developer an understanding of our viewpoint and opinion as well!

I downloaded just to delete it. Hopefully the stats on downloads vs subscribers will send a message.

I hope he's successful in whatever way works for him (though I doubt the subscription rout will work). He's trying to make a living from these apps. I'm just pursuing a hobby of music making on the iPad.

all the "argy bargy" aside, this is a sweet sounding app...terrific realistic beats (IE no drummers with eight arms) and a lot of "pocket" stuff. Kits are nice too.

I think Pop and Reggae will be the two I use predominantly....just need to try and justify the sub....I do use the apps gigging, so I can probs put it down as a tax dodge :)

Thx, yes, still broken in Oz...

  • I'm in the "never pay for a subscription" team. I refuse to pay recurrent fees for wtv. @LuisMartinez, I hear you when you say keeping up dev is hard but take the example of the Loopy Pro dev and make an IAP that allows users all the current functionality and all the future updates up to 1 year. The app will always be free to use for them with all the functionality they paid for but additional developments might need an upgrade on the user license. That seems fair to both the developer and users.

I think that method works for a developer with the vision, product or will to have an evolution to their products. The only additions I've seen in Lumby apps are drummer IAP. It guess it's something but not exactly the huge carrot you get dangled with Loopy Pro. I'm not sure the same purchase model would work for a more stagnant product such as a Lumbeat Drummer app. What additional developments would you expect from Lumbeats based on historical events?

Not me. I don't just accept whatever from a company because they are trying to make a living. We are all trying to make a living (i.e. money comes in, money goes out). Just because someone makes a product is not IMHO carte blanche to do what you like and receive nothing but accolades. It seems like somewhere along the line "The customer is always right" became "if you don't eat your meat you can't have any pudding, how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat. It used to be a consumers right to voice dissatisfaction, even to take it further in an effort to get an outcome that suits everybody. Now it just put a target on your back with the Label "Unbeliever, kill the heretic"

  • I just sub to things, cancel right away then use them for a month and if I get the itch I'll be back. Had every iOS app been sub like this from the beginning I probably would have saved a ton of money. Most of my apps would not have made it past month one or two.

  • @LuisMartinez

    Any plans for multi outputs?

I’ve hope I’ve been very clear that I don’t and never will accept subscriptions for apps like this. It doesn’t mean I wish financial failure on someone else. Also, I haven’t said anything against you stating your opinion. Telling it like you feel it is valid and is important feedback IMO. I only said that I don’t share that outlook.

Maybe there is such a market out there and we’re just not in it. I doubt it but who knows? We speak up, and we vote with our wallets. Market economics take care of the rest, or the developer sees the writing on the wall based on our feedback. That isn’t just rolling over and taking it, it’s respecting a working man’s choices about how he tries to make a living.

Anyway, for someone who said said several posts back that I had said all I had to say, I’ve sure gone on way too much. I’m really done now. I promise this time.🙄
