Unfortunately not all software (and hardware) developers update their products straight after an iOS update, so we're left with a mixture of updated and broken apps. Which is why we sometimes have to hold back on an update.
If I wasn't on this forum, I wouldn't know that my DAW doesn't work, for example. So Apple would have pushed me into a change which meant I could no longer use my device for recording.
With so many providers in the mix it's always going to be a messy thing.
Agreed and fully understood. Just wanted to add my 0.02c into the mix to show that things are not as simple as "if you don't update the world will be a better place for everyone".
I for one wouldn't mind if Apple changed their update cycle to two-yearly. It's not like anyone was really waiting for stickers in their messenger app.
For 'major' iOS updates I tend to agree but for smaller updates and fixes I'd rather see a faster cycle to correct 'bugs' and bring the core-technologies up-to-date like adding system wide preset-support for AU-X's or improved file-management. For those kind of features I'd rather not wait two years or so between updates...
I still wonder what it is in 'Auria Pro' that 'breaks' IAA since most other apps work just as expected?!
(I know that doing too much custom 'work-arounds' to overcome limitations will bite back sooner or later).
Of course! But I was talking about the major "let's change everything" releases. I understand the hesitation and it's quite a rational/smart thing to stay put if things work on your current configuration, but by not updating the actual problem multiplies. Because as a developer it's impossible to keep every device on every OS version on the shelf. So reproducing a bug a that occurs on an iPad 4 running iOS 9.3.2 can be a pain if you don't have that particular combination of device/OS around anymore.
The minor updates typically only improve things (so I don't really understand the fear of ".x" updates around here. Only very rarely do they break anything).
That has mostly been my experience too with one minor exception, the jump from iOS8.3.x to iOS8.4 which 'fixed/patched' the 'sandboxing-leak' that made it possible to browse and modify the installed app-bundles using iFunBox without the need for a Jailbreak...
From how things look now iOS10.1 will be a safe update for iOS10.x users.
I can fully understand the developer perspective of having to support multiple iOS versions especially if it's related to a 'bug' that has been fixed in a later iOS update. We also have the 32-Bit vs 64-Bit issues, Multiple AX-Chips Variants, Screen resolutions(1x, 2x, 3x). If we then start to target specific .x updates a few iOS reveisions back I'd say 'force-update' is the best method even if it would break some things on older iOS versions....

I had a considerable trouble trying to accurately date it. It's a model 2, but the model 2 was in production between 1938 and 1950, with five revisions during that time (and cessation of production and then resumption because WWII). The changes are minor and hard to discern accurately, which can make it a problem to date these things from where we are now.
I think in those days, there was something valuable in keeping a production of a thing running with stability over a long duration, and this was a sought-after value by customers.
Absolutely. My mum's old second hand hoover she bought for a tenner, which must have been made in the 50's, was still going strong 40 years later - in fact it was still working when she replaced it for a brand new model, which lasted 18 months and cost twenty times more.
We live in a World where irreparable environmental damage is being caused by scary levels of polluting waste, but a time when most companies are building in obsolescence into their products - so we have to keep replacing them, or buying new devices to work with updated software.
Closed hardware systems so you can't update the RAM/hard drive/Processor/Graphics card/whatever, so instead you have to replace the whole device because it no longer copes with the latest OS. Same with new cars - 25 years ago I could keep my old Fords running cheaply by rummaging around in a scrap yard for cheap, used parts. Now everything's linked to...a computer...and systems are closed and you have to pay for a whole unit to be replaced rather than a small thing.
Still, as long as the big corporations are making their billions...
In a few centuries time (in between clearing up the mess) they'll look back on all this and think we were conned.

You can't just buy some land and build your own place to live cheaply - it's not playing the game. You need to buy and throw away or the rich don't get richer. But Bat, you know that you wouldn't have an iPad an it's goodies with those businesses! Bollocks! The world has enough resources to home feed and give everyone an instrument of their choosing and still make sustainable upgradable computers. The reason they don't is plain old Greed. We need a decent linux tablet. Or a decent linux-able one. The making of a tablet is no longer a mystery, and if one foregoes waterproofing and style, can probably be lashed together using parts orderable from china - a touch digitiser, display, set of LiOn batteries, and a board that can drive the display whilst accepting touch input whilst propelling BLE and 11AC. It could be sandwiched between two acrylic sheets and bolted in place, with nice brass bolts, for a viable steampunk tablet chic. But if it were linuxable (by which I mean Android, Chrome, and the new thing or two that's about to emerge from that ethos) it'd be open and maintainable. I don't think I'd mind a tablet the dimensions of a slim phone directory if I could say I built it myself - if it can be upgraded, it can only get better (and possibly slimmer).

Great posts. My phone got ios10 pretty soon after release, but my iPad is on the latest 9 until the auria update hits, then I'll update.
I just bought a 2011 Macbook air a few weeks ago for work and I love it, it's running well on El capitan (now I know my mac mini needs an ssd, it's a whole different world, I can't believe the difference!), and just as I got it set up I see that Sierra came out. Looks like all of the updates are focused on text messaging, social media, and using your phone devices to pay for things. None of which are really of interest. But yes, I have STICKERS! Oh well, that's got my kids excited (10 and 12).
And @MonzoPro, I hear you on the landfill tech, we have a Miele washer and dryer, and last year the washer developed an issue, repair person said it was a circuit board that was $600 just for the part because water was dripping on it and corroded it. Just for the heck of it, i asked him to clean it with a brush, and lo and behold we've had a perfectly working washer since then. Now watch it break this evening....
Funnily enough we were quoted a similar price for a 'failed motherboard' for our boiler. After the repairman turned up twice with the wrong part we got a different guy in who fixed the 'motherboard failure' by replacing a 2 inch piece of rubber pipe. Free as part of the service.
Apple and the other manufacturers could make an updateable tablet if they wished. Couple of slidey panels on the back for replaceable HD, battery, RAM...maybe even a processor. You'd be stuck with the main base hardware and screen, but it'd provide a cheaper option for some and reduce waste.
The iPad I'm running now looks almost identical to the one I had (6?) years ago, and the physical screen and build differences are no real issue for me - I just need to keep it running at a speed that can cope with the latest OS.
With an upgradeable tablet you'd at least double the lifespan of the device, which would have a big impact on the amount of waste created. Even more if extended to phones and other devices.
For me, it's hard to see Apple's business plan being without considerable amounts of greed.

I would like to throw in the so called"scroll view bug"that was introduced sometime in the 9x and especially Air 2 user should remember this pest.It was basically cutting the Air 2 performance by a 3rd in many audio related apps (Auria,Cubasis,Gadget,Alchemy...)and i had to wait for at least half a year to get the power back with 9.3
As for myself i'll NEVER update more or less in time again,no mater how small the jump in version numbers is.That was insanenly driving me nuts.
That said,i'll still wait with iOS10 until at least Auria Pro is fixed.
It keeps auto downloading even though I have it set not to. I don't have space for it and don't want to install yet.
Anyone else? Advice?
you can delete it manually but it will back on your device a few days later.You have to repeat this over and over again but at least it will not annoy you with all those"ready to install"reminder each day...that's...something,no?
I think the nag screen is Apple's way of reminding me that the Auria update isn't out yet....
If it's so, it will stop nagging soon: Rim posted in the Auria forum that he plans to release it to Apple today or tomorrow. It's coming!
Have updated to iOS10 now that Auria Pro works for it and after an initial gag reflex, I actually really like it. There's not much change as far as iPads are concerned but what turned me was that with the push home to unlock feature, you can set yourself a single touch AssistiveTouch button (by removing all features aside from 'home' from it) and then you never have to touch your actual home button again.
Of course, it could have been done before, but I never realised it because it wasn't necessary for to have the AssistiveTouch button on screen for touchscreen unlocking. Navigating and switching apps with an on screen home button is MUCH quicker!

Just deleted the update from my phone for the SIXTH time as I don't want it yet. I keep my iPad cunningly too full for the download, but I need lots of wiggle room on the phone. Has anyone found a way to STOP THE DOWNLOADS, PLEASE I'M GOING BONKERS?

Works on iOS 9 too. I kinda like having multi-tasking as one of the actions as well. I'm probably more often switching screens than going to the home screen myself.
So? Is there any reason not to update to iOS 10? Auria seems to be solved. Any other lingering issues?
Either no one updated, or the update is perfect. There hasn't been any complaining here at all.
