Loving it, but there are a few glitches in the iOS version.
1) In overdub mode, and I switch sectors (my sectors all have different starts\lengths), isn't playback meant to instantly place both playback & record heads at the start point of that sector (or the end if it's reverse playback)?
Because this isn't happening. Sometimes the play\record range is not respecting the start\length for the sector I've just clicked. I have to hit the trigger button twice (to toggle into play and back to overdub) to jump the play\rec heads into the sector I've just selected.
In playback mode, no problem - the playhead jumps to the correct sector the instant I tap the sector.
2) Sometimes the play speed +/- buttons don't respond. In Octave/Fifth mode, after a few taps on the "-" button next to Play Speed, nothing seems to change (in the GUI or in the sound output), then it suddenly comes back to life when the value is 0.12 and I have to tap "+" a couple of times to get back to "0.5" which is what i was after originally.
iPad Pro 2017, AUM
Will contact Chris.
Rozeta lfo animating the ccs works nicely. Still haven’t got my head around this completely.
I use AUM as a mixer for iOS drums, fx & synths but not for master clock / transport functions - I use external hardware running as master into AUM via midi for clock & transport Will I be able to use it or will it only work if AUM itself is used as the start / stop, clock etc.
Hope that makes some kind of sense!
thx found it there
That’s right. In AUM and AB3 it only is available in the effects slot. You have to choose an input, either mic or another sound source.
From the manual:
Changing sectors while playing causes Enso to move the playback position to the beginning of the sector. Enso
switches sectors only while playing or stopped; you can’t switch while recording or overdubbing. If you try,
Enso will postpone your request until you switch it from recording to playing.
I've got it doing basic stuff, but still fumbling about. I think it'd be useful to see how others are using it, and how they're integrating it into their workflows.
Never mind... I got it to work like I wanted by using KB-1s midi cc dials and assigning one to trigger in Enso. Has to be set for trigger on press AND trigger on release for it to work, but tapping the KB-1 dials instead of turning them, can function like an on/off button.
Just assigned the same KB-1 midi cc dial to 3 instances of Enso in apeMatrix and able to trigger them all at once.
Like all the best apps it’ll take time to master everything here, but this is the best looping fun I’ve had since discovering Loopy. Lots of ways to use this and the midi control is very comprehensive so as to enable lots of possibilities
Thanks ... so it turns out I didn't R the FM properly
Chris informed me in a support email that this is down to the technical challenges of allowing sector switching while recording, and if they solve it, it might appear as a feature in a future update.
Whoot! Made a loop! umm, yah
First track knocked up using ENSO on the iPad and Studio One 4 along with a few other musical friends!
Bastard. Very good. She dies in the end.
I'm still enthralled by polyphonic iVCS3 and iMS-20 so haven't given it enough attention yet.
I had a nice thing going just now - feeding Spacecraft into Enso, but then I pressed a few buttons and it all went weird again - started recording just a short segment, even though I hadn't specified one. Looking forward to seeing some more vids, definitely an app that requires a lot of practice.
Just discovered using ENSO in AUM I loaded up a vocal wav off loopmasters package and put it in the file player. Put ENSO in effects slot. Hit play record and depending on the loop speed you can get instant acapellas! Once it running in ENSO just delete the file player sample. Using this method I got a lot of top slots in AUM now empty!
@MonzoPro
Same here, I had a loop going and then it started to go weird and stutter repeat a small clip in the loop...
I musta pressed something so I deff Need to watch the video again and see what I did... Fun to learn even while I'm messing it up lol
I'm making progress piece by piece with the UI and understanding how it all works, but I have to say that Spacecraft and Enso were basically made for each other.
@Carnbot Have you managed to modulate any of there parameters inside AUM by assigning the CC to say Rozeta LFO. I tried play speed but couldn’t get it to work. I think it’s because the value only goes up to 4.
I thought Spacecraft and Kosmonaut were great for taking an interstellar voyage.
Definitely need to introduce Spacecraft to Enso Looper.
It’s like Enso does Eno...
Yeah I'm going to watch the vid again now
Definitely. I had a really nice looped Spacecraft thing going, and then mixed the live signal in and out, and occasionally added a bit more to the loop. You can get a really big sound going with just those two apps loaded.
@Chris_Randall Hmmm.... at first I thought it was me, but I’m getting inconsistent behavior that I can’t consistently reproduce. Like, I was deleting the loop portion from one sector I’d defined, but it deleted the entire loop. Then I tried again and it worked. A few more tries and it wouldn’t delete the sector I’d selected, or the entire loop. Though, the main loop delete button always works. Just not the sector one.
Also have been controlling via midi cc which works well... until you resize the Enso window... sometimes resizing the Enso window makes the play/rec heads go haywire too, in addition to seemingly breaking the midi cc connection. Returns to normal after reloading Enso.
Latest apeMatrix + iOS 12.1.4 + 10.5 iPad Pro
For a v1.0 it’s very decent. Think I’ll hold off reporting strange behavior until the first bug squash update.
In the add it says tape saturation and fine tuning.
Is there a tuning or pitch control parameter?
I bought it and didn't see one. Or was that a general use of the word tuning?
Try the playback speed parameters, speed up to pitch up, speed down to pitch down... simple no?
Has anybody pushed Enso into recording the full iOS limit of 5 minutes?
When a product's available on both desktop and iOS, I tend to only buy for one platform these days, based on which platform offers the best creative options (e.g I didn't upgrade to Odyssey on the desktop as Odyssei on iOS was so great). I know $5.99 is an absolute steal (although I hate my iOS devices getting clogged up with apps that I never open, no matter how cheap they are). But I do worry about iOS's RAM limitations so am thinking the desktop plugin will be a better option for me. My laptop goes everywhere I take an iPad so mobility isn't really a plus point either.
Having said all that, I've got some crazy ApeMatrix modulation thoughts running through my brain so I may just ignore my usual app purchasing logic!
Which by the way I think is an excellent idea for an audio recording app. Select the input in the host and you’re rocking.
In the settings panel, you can change the increments used when you press +/- . Try setting it to one of the Pitch interval snap options. It snaps to semitones, etc.
Has anyone managed to record ENSO output into a Linear DAW timeline as yet ie Cubasis 2, NS2, Auria Pro, StageLight etc ?
In GarageBand it’s possible to merge audio track with Enso:
Have you tried to freeze Enso track in your DAWs?
Also, has anybody encounter some issues with buttons response? Sometimes Enso transport buttons don’t react in AUM. Also, lacks anti click algo on loop re-start. And loop lenght quantize option could be cool, as a quantized reverse/rtz too.
It’s not a loopy replacement, BUT it’s super interesting and powerful I must say, have to try in apeMatrix now.
