@Jumpercollins just tested in cubasis 2 with an audio track and it would not record the loop as it was playing but i could freeze the track. BM3 didn't fair as well either. I figure using Audiobus into cubasis might be the easiest way.
@gmslayton Yes my bad keep forgetting it’s audio input and not midi !
Just tried it in Cubasis 2 and got it to work feeding from a AudioShare file obviously all audio in Cubasis 2 are IAA and have not keyboard plugged in so had to pick a source that played itself. It worked though and recorded the loop into ENSO and taking AudioShare out ENSO recorded to the timeline. A bit of a long winded exercise
I'm seeing lots of messedup/goofy midi mapping stuff... It's impossible to set rates or start stop points to "rational" values with midi control. I'm sure it due to midi=128 and start stop =360, but there should be some mapping to apply rational/logical values.
For example... A midi knob in it's center position sends 64... Speed should go to zero at 64 as it's in the middle.. but it don't...
For speeds, you basically HAVE to map cc buttons to the +/- values to get it to ever go to a logical value
Also, it seems like they left out a mapping for the 1:1 button which seems essential to me...
You can get quantized loop recording by setting up the length options, and hitting the Trigger button to start recording with auto-stop. You have to have the Mode change quantize set up as well, since this quantized the timing of mode switching (play to record to overdub, etc.).
In this example, I am getting perfect 2 measure loops automatically.
The main thing is use the Trigger to do quantized Loop length recording as opposed to the rec mode button.
@CracklePot nice info thanks, also that means that midi learning « Trigger » button gives access to record, overdub and play with only one midi controller button. Also, this is here that a loop lenght quantize could be interesting (as already said, same for reverse/rtz quantization options, a bit tricky to use them on something else than synth pads at the moment).
My biggest request would be over dub undo or retake, it would obviously be amazing if it was a 4 track tape looper but it isn't, yet still amazing, but since it is one track an undo button or over dub delete option would be a great thing
alternatively. 4 instances of enso is an option thanks to being an auv3 😀
+1 for undo. Also misses highly in Loopy BTW.
Can anyone who has the app try the following:
I've done this a lot with Loopy HD, and I'm curious if it works with Enso.
Thanks!!
This was the breakthrough piece for me when I picked it out of the marathon intro video. Good call noting it here for others who are struggling!
Enso does tape-style playback speed change. So, you are playing back the original samples but at a different rate (so pitch changes also). It doesn't do time-stretching.
Hmmm..... Well there's something that Loopy HD still excels at....... This has been a secret weapon of mine for recording live difficult pieces.
Undo. Oh yeah. I suck at timing... I am so happy my helix looper Modul has an undo. But st the end of the day I may get better in timing with all those cool apps hehe
Freaking timing 😂
Also if the over dub just doesn't sound great after you record it and you wanna maybe add a little more filter or an effect, ... It's too late..
I've had some great first loops ruined my by bad dubs lol... Now saving at the first loop stage.
Yes I've been modulating the sector triggers but can be cpu spikey.
Man this thing is pretty fun, and mostly rock solid for me.
I wish though that there was an automatic RTZ (return to zero) when stopping the loop and then using Trigger to restart it again. Right now it just starts from where it was stopped, and I don't want to have to map a button to RTZ or pull up the window when triggering a loop.
+1
Cool diagram @CracklePot
this is such a deep looper. easily app of the year so far. will be tough to beat this one.
In addition to just playing around, I’ve been trying Enso out as a kind of track-freeze in AUM. I’ve just been putting an instance on, setting the loop size to 8 bars, triggering record, and then when it starts playing back, removing what was feeding it. It’s worked pretty well. Even for freezing other stacks of Enso instances. I took an AUM session that was running at 75% DSP down to 21% in a couple of minutes.
Only one weirdness happened. When I flipped over to the forum to write this AUM crashed. When I opened it up and did a “reload last session”, playback of all tracks was pitched down. I suspect this may have been due to sample rate change, but I can’t say for sure.
Gonna have to experiment a little more, but it looks promising for when things start to get out of hand.
I'm freaking hooked!
That's a really creative idea! Going to try that..
Yeah I’m using it like that - recording a loop from a high CPU hitter such as LayR, then removing them and just playing the loop.
In order to get more than about eight bars out of it you need to turn on the long memory option. If you run out of buffer, it’ll look like it’s recording the whole thing, but then only play back one bar. Fortunately, that setting is saved with the preset. So, I just took the 4 measures preset, changed it to 16 measures, and turned on the long memory, then saved a user preset.
Also ... be careful when clearing loops after you’ve removed the feeding app. I have cleared the wrong loop on occasion. It would be good if there was a loop lock mode or something. Or an undo.
Both AUM and Audiobus have crashed on me while running Enso, so save early and save often!
Yes I been trying that working ok this end. You can remove the source app or swap it out with another and overdub works a treat. Gonna Test out recording in all my DAWs today iOS and desktop as had one or 2 issues which I want to take note of and drop a line to AD.
Looking forward to a good video on this.

Curious about this - holding off on the app for now (barely) ... when you record a loop of something like LayR - are you getting clicks/pops and the end/beginning of the loop cycle? This is one little thing that has me holding off on enso.
Unfortunately yes - not always, but they are happening, though I'm still getting to grips with the app so maybe there's a workaround or I'm doing something wrong.
I've had some good loops going which I've mucked up with an overdub that's introduced a click, so interested to see some new vids and how others are getting on with it.
No buyers regret, but not finding it as life changing as some.
