... ‘cuz we’re a dying breed. 😂
I'll send you a few if you send good bass players in return
Trivia: Lead vocals by Mark Gardener of Ride
This has become an iOS essential... Lumbeat Drums and its SONG MODE shines when recording to Xequence and not much setup is required. The Ableton Link is well implemented (Push REC on Xequence and recording is synced to Future Drummer).
All one can ask for now is AU.
NICE!!!
FD live Mode, here I come..
Yeah been thinking about Song mode and live Pads but in my case I would first record a single pass through while I’m playing the whole band in real-time then come back and create the song mode after the fact to get a feel of what I want to play at certain sections of the song.
Another string instrument player here!
Do any of my fellow players plan to integrate your guitars with Xequence in some way? My plan is to put together a song in Xequence, record synth/sampler audio as sequenced by Xequence into audio track(s), then overdub guitar and whatever.
Yeah that’s my ultimate goal to add live electric tracks but have to build the backing tracks first. So glad all these amazing apps are making that more of a reality!
I have an old Jamstik that use use here and there but it’s really limited on the frets so I just use it for light picking and stuff and works quite well!
I’ve started to think about ways to use Xequence, AudioBus and Loopy together for jamming, but that’s about all. Right now, Stagelight has the most straightforward workflow, but amp-sim options are limited with only AU support.
Yeah exactly what I was thinking!
I really can’t wait for ToneStack to go AU. But for now I’m trying to use what I have and build my AU setup little by little. That’s why I’m hoping to get the shimmer app from 4pockets but I wondered if I needed the pitch shift as I use that lot in a lot on guitar leads of my worship songs.
But so far I’m really happy with ToneStack. The only thing I don’t like is that it remains as a ghost app when I close AB3 or AUM. One time it overheated my iPad cause ever since it fell and broke my screen, it no longer auto locks. So I had to disable that feature.
Is there a magic sauce to achieve full synch between generator apps and midi recording in Xequence2?
I've been trying to record the output of Rozeta Rhythm hosted in AUM but even though the recording in Xequence and playback in AUM start at the same time, the recorded midi in Xequence is slightly off-beat and I have to manually adjust it to get it back in place.
Could you try going to Xequence's settings -> MIDI / Recording -> MIDI INPUT -> "Use incoming timestamps"?
Also, it might make a timing different whether you send your MIDI to "Xequence Destination" or choose to receive from the source app's virtual port by enabling the app by its name in "Sources".
If that doesn't help, you can always turn on recording quantization (the "Q" menu at the top right).
Unfortunately, Virtual MIDI is a bit complicated and there's a lot that can go wrong "on the road".
Intro price is scheduled to end on Friday!
If the offset is consistent for an app, then there’s also an offset adjustment in the track input settings that might help.
In my experience, the tightest midi timing has been when keeping it all within Audiobus.
As mentioned before... I wasn't looking to add another sequencer type app like this. But I won a redeem code and have been playing with it for about a week now.
It's capable of more complexity than I need or want to learn. However, for laying down some sequences, moving them around. Making loops and stretching, recording midi, etc. it's really cool and easy to use. Even on a small iPhone SE screen.
I've been intrigued with it for awhile, but never got around to pulling the trigger.
The new app smell hasn't worn off yet, but so far it's becoming a frequent "go to" app for arranging some notes, etc.
Congrats to @SevenSystems on the launch!
Thanks for finally being on board! Hope you'll keep enjoying the ride.
Thanks @SevenSystems!
Use incoming timestamps greatly improved the timing for recorded notes, it is still a tiny bit off (less than 1/32) but nothing that a pass through quantize can not solve.
I also switched to Xequence Destination and used that one as a MIDI source for the track (it was Network Session 1 before) and got a super tight synch, though the first note was skipped.
I then increased the Count-in to 1 bar and finally I got my whole beat recorded in synch from the first note!
Yeh, some apps like GR-16 send their first beat just a tiny bit before Link starts. We discovered this in Xequence beta testing. If you turn on “Record during Count-in” you can see that the first beat from GR-16 hits about a 64th note before the bar, while the rest of the pattern is dead-on.
I’ve seen this with the Lumbeat apps in Cubasis as well. That first bar is almost always missing the downbeat. It’s nice that Xequence has a way around this.
Rozeta Bassline hosted in AUM sync'd to Xequencer 2 via Link seems to give perfect results?
With MIDI timestamps turned on:
Yeah sync is tight with lumbeats apps and recording during count in option is awesome!
@BroCoast - Interesting! And very useful.
It seems that AUM may not implement timestamps well. That’s not too surprising. It’s not a standard MIDI feature, and the developer has never seemed very enthusiastic about MIDI Clock, preferring to focus on Link instead.
Xequence does have that big fat pop up warning the first time you turn timestamps on. I guess it’s there for a reason.
Yeah and the MIDI clock in AUM drifts a bit so it's a basic implementation I guess compared to say AB. I'm not much of a fan of MIDI clock in general as it's a bit unpredictable depending on apps/hardware.
This is a little bit of a surprise for me, having never printed MIDI with Link sync:
Any time I have printed audio with Link sync it is fixed latency with no jitter. That doesn't seem to apply to MIDI. It's very minimal jitter though.
That's exactly what I've found too so no AUM for me.
Timestamps have nothing to do with proper clock synchronization however.
A clock pulse sent at the wrong time won't be fixed by having timestamps evaluated, and it seems that AUM would need a fix here.
Yes, some apps really have a bad MIDI clock implementation and that's sad because it doesn't have to be this way if a developer knows how to do it right.
If it works then it's good
Sorry but the "right way" to sync Xequence 2 with GR-16 is to let X2 send MIDI clock and let GR-16 follow it. No more delays, no more jitter and instant start/stop.
And you're free to adjust the latency in GR-16 for both to match perfectly.
It works totally fine for me with Link + Start/Stop. I just turn Link Start/Stop on in Xequence when I want it, and disable it when I don’t want GR-16 to play. Except for that very, very tiny first note pre-delay (which is handled thanks to Record During Countdown), it’s perfect as far as I can see. I’ve recorded 16 simultaneous automatically added tracks, with heavy automation, and played them back flawlessly to GR-16 several times.
I’m glad midi clock works well for you with GR-16, but see no need to change my setup at this point.
I still have to check out the X2 clock
, but at the moment I'm having too much fun with the current configuration.
I'm one of the people happy to leave MIDI clock in the past because all the hardware I use can sync to analog.
It's looking to be a bright Ableton future for that:
Sorry for OT but that video is deeply satisfying.
I guess you can record a track and edit the midi in Xequence (split and move around clips) It’s still a learning process. but options are there..
OP-Z and Xequence 2
Works fine..
Happy to bought X
I have good news for everyone who got frustrated (that includes myself) by the day-one limitation of Xequence 1 and 2 where playback or recording stopped 64 bars after the end of the last clip: IT WILL BE GONE IN THE NEXT UPDATE!
You da man!!!
Thank you !
Wonderful!
In the meantime I installed the latest update and I can confirm that the split locator positioning works as expected now, thanks for that!
