.... And on my iPhone pro with all native NS plugins only, my battery life is insane. It’s barely going down at all.

Over 2 hours non stop and my battery has gone down only 13%. Only native devices.

    This is nuts.

but to host midi fx externally is not that handy in case that AUfx is supposed to process somehow notes from sequencer (like this arp my use case)

    good point. Thanks.

  • @dendy I wonder if Matt can see iPhone vs iPad usage over the coming months. That would be a really interesting stat. I would expect iPhone usage to peak initially on release but the ongoing ratio after it settled down would be good to know. Especially for other developers thinking of taking on a DAW port to iPhone (cough... BM3...).

  • I’m dreaming of a Note repeat section in the highlighted area??? 🙏 🙏 🙏 I think it’d work with a toggle from the sound pack menu view to the note repeat view @dendy

Just a note to anyone disappointed with the slow pace of development.

The developer has mentioned in a post on their forum that regretfully NS2 doesn’t generate enough income to allow him to work on it more than half-time. I don’t know about you, but I can sympathize with having to bow to the need to put food on the table over what I’d rather be doing.

A lot of people complained bitterly over the iPhone version being prioritized over audio tracks. Even though audio tracks are more important to me, IMO this was the right call as it has higher potential to bring in more income sooner.

Here’s hoping that the beautiful and totally worth the wait iPhone version generates enough income to allow full-time development. B)

iPhone user here.. Just wanted to say that I happily bought it and several IAPs as well. I hope many others are doing the same. I’m especially happy to see everyone talking about how great the GUI is on the iPhone, because that will encourage even more to buy it. 🙂

  • I had more fun on the iPhone version today than I have on my iPad. Everything is so well laid out. I will be using this a lot more than I thought I would.

I agree. I’m making beats waiting at stoplights and in restaurant drive thrus...

  • Nano studio to group The loop ! a great iPhone set up 😎

  • Very happy apart from the urgent need now to buy a new phone (current one's headphone jack is dead...)....She Who Must Be Obeyed is puzzled at the sudden need.... :)

That’s what happened with me when we first got to test it. All my demo tracks for the iPad version were written on the iPhone.

    So fluid!

  • Get a refurbished iPhone 6s plus it works great!

That is very wise and savvy. I'm going to give my wife your number :)

Johnny, can’t you just buy an lightning-to-3.5mm adapter to connect your headphones or audiosystem?

this is very much planned ! Matt is aware of this missing feature from NS1, it's just matter of time...

i don't think dev has access to such statistics... i will ask but i'm in doubt..

  • NS2 is a master class for iPhone DAW UI. I hadn’t used my iPhone to make a beat since Gadget launch week but havent put it down since this update. Pleasant surprise as I was more looking forward for audio tracks. This has definitely satisfied me until the next update. Great great job.👌🏾

  • Well just getting down to play with the iPhone version.. and.. it is the most prettiest app on the iPhone.. hats off to the developer/s.. stunning..

The dev can have access to these and any statistics about how the app is being used, but it depends on whether and how they've implemented those kind of analytics. They can get statistics about app usage as well as crash reports.

Some apps tell the devs everything about how you use the app; Which screens you visit (and which screens you don't) which buttons get tapped, whether the intro screen is skipped, etc. and can help the dev to concentrate on the features that are getting used and possibly remove the ones that aren't.

As a user you can opt out of sending this kind of data (even though it's anonymised) by turning off "Share with App Developers" in Settings->Privacy.

Matt is probably the best UI designer on iPhone. I absolutely LOVE what he does to fit a complex app onto a phone while still making it as usable as its bigger brother version. There's so much for other devs to learn here.

Aah, okay .. don't think Matt uses this, he is not that type of guy who is spying on users :)))

I don't think I'm going to be using NS2 on my iPad anymore (at least until I eventually upgrade it).

I knew my iPhone was going to be a lot faster, but it's crazy how much better NS2 is on my iPhone 11 than on my iPad Air 2.

I did try and archive some projects from my Air 2 but NS2 just choked on exporting the slate samples. I ended up having to copy the NS2 folder into iCloud Drive and copying the projects and instruments across using the Files app.

The same project that makes the Air fall over and give up on life works like a charm on the phone. I don't know what it is about NS2 on my Air 2, but it's been incredibly frustrating.

I'm very happy to now finally get to enjoy a smooth NS2 experience the way most people do!

    • (FWIW, when I exported a couple of projects that used the same Slate kit from the Air2, the first time it archived fine. Then, for the second project, NS2 ground to a complete halt whilst saving the same kit that had worked OK the time before)*

    :-)

It can be used in a non-creepy way; For example, it could show the percentage of users that use a particular feature that might not be as discoverable as it could be. The analytics would confirm if it needs more prominence in the UI or if it's more than discoverable enough as it is.

I wish the send to developer feature could be switched off for some apps rather than just being a global setting; I certainly don't want some developers having this information as they creep me out and I think they'd use that data to help them monetise everything but I'd be more than happy to send the analytics to others.

iCloud support could be interesting now....

EDIT: There is no way to access to Obsidian or AU3 from Midi grid? With iPhone is a pain change to mix view and then Instrument View

  • edited October 2019

Not sure if this is what you are talking about @OnfraySin , but you tap up at the top where I circled to get to the instrument view when you are editing a clip. You can’t get there from almost any view

Nop, you need to select the instrument first, not only the part to edit

What if you double tap the instrument?

Also, long tapping will toggle which you see next when you keep tapping the instrument.

Not sure exactly what you’re asking but it’s only a tap or two or a double tap to get pretty much anywhere in NS2.

You need to “click the instrument AND the part that you want edit” to do what? I’m not hearing you say what you’re trying to do.

  • edited October 2019

@OnfraySin i think i understand what you want .. currently, if you open clip, it doesn't change selected instrument - selected instrument is changed just by tap on track header in sequencer view, and nav bar mini instrument browser on tap sends you to seleced instrument, not to currently opened clip editor instrument ..

what you would probably like is if selected instrument will follow last opened clip ... (or it other words if you tap on any clip and clip opens, it also changes actually selected insturment, so simple tap on mini instruments in navbar will they take you to that instrument)

i see it at good idea for option in app settings "Selected instrument follows edited clip" with Yes / No values ..

will add it as suggestion to matt's "small tasks" list ;)
