not a single app that i bought to black friday,i pretty much have everything i ever need/want currently (last app was pure acid). Also,i don't want to sink more money into AUs until everything together runs more reliable. If that'll ever happen, still a long walk it seems...

But i bought a Korg Minilogue xd for 514,-€ which was a pretty good deal

Yeah good decision! I love my Minilogue xd.
The new firmware update is a big improvement .
Ive recently added a couple of new user oscillators ( Origami and Three) .
It is great being able to expand the selection of waveforms using the digital oscillator.

I bought one app this BF: Glitch Breaks. Its cool but a bit picky about size and format of imported wavefiles..
Its interesting watching my appaholism reaching Critical Mass..Im kinda leaning towards hardware again..but still using a mix of apps as well ...

  • Just grabbed Beathawk. UI and interface are unimpressive but default sounds are OK so far.

What IAPs are worth a purchase? I mainly produce hip-hop in the flavors of boom bap, west coast, and sample-heavy stylings. Some Lo-fi and IDM thrown in.

Looking for instrument sounds mostly. Loops if they are top notch.

    Thx

Also grabbed a few others but haven’t played with them yet.

I just got NFM. I'm very pleased with how quickly I was able to get interesting sounds going, compared to other FM synths I’ve tried. I was so impressed, I went back and bought NPD too. (Haven’t tried it yet though.)

NPD is really impressive as well. Stand out sounds. Hook up the Mozaic randomizer patch to it and you really start to hear some unusual starting points.

    There’s a Mozaic randomizer patch???

I’m waiting for Cyber Monday, as these are all cyber-ish products. If not that, then I’ll wait for Dalek Tuesday.

  • Bought a few Apps, already owning most, so blew my dough, £330 on a Behringer Berp Oddy

I got a bunch of apps, the best was Perforator by far. This is going to be on every project, I can tell already. Others were:

    • Turnado… not sure if it’s going to get much use but it’s good all the same,
    • Beatformer, which will be super useful – not exactly Ableton’s Drum Buss level but combined with other apps, will be a workhorse.
    • Poison 202 ❤️,
    • Ratshack reverb ❤️,
    • Adverb 2, of which I’m not entirely sure yet,
    • And I got the iFX rack all IAPs, which is HUGE and ❤️.

The only serious misstep was on the desktop side, I grabbed iZotope’s Break Twerker for around 20€ because I don’t have a dedicated beat plugin. But I didn’t do any research, so I didn’t realize it was abandonware and seriously half-baked. Plus the included sounds are so dated (mostly squashed dubstep drums from 2015, and the rest sound like they’re 8bit 22kHz for some reason), you really need to use it with your own samples. I guess it’s good for doing special effect sounds but definitely not my first choice for beats. On the whole it was uncannily like Fruity Loops from the 90’s but hogs CPU like it’s a pie-eating contest. I liked FL in the 90’s but that was then and it’s become FL Studio now. Can’t recommend.

Some more (fast)food for thought... I was hesitant about buying the whole Fabfilter bundle, like you. When it comes to mastering, I’m more of an apprentice, lol. But like others have mentioned, the features, presets, and UI really “hold your hand” through the process. The downloadable manuals are great, too. And you may have already seen the videos, which are wonderful tutorials and not just sales pitches. And of course, narrated in the soothing tones of Dan Worrall. 😊👍

This was the 1st Black Friday in years that I had money to spend! Still paying off my Eurorack mistake!

IMHO, when it comes to music there are no “mistakes”... only experiences and experiments.

(That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it! 🤣🤣🤣)

You must own mostly everything that’s on sale?

  • Very happy with:

Noir, current favorite AU drum synth
Lagrange, easy to program and wide range of sounds
    Woodstepper, unique and deep sequencer.
Midi mod, nice, hoping on AU.
Esoteric synth, great for soundtrack work.

  • TB reverb, zmors eq, factory full version.
Non app Waldorf blofeld SL license.

    Happy camper

  • I hardly bought any apps at all this past year - just 3 of the eventides, reelbus & synthjacker - so it seemed rude not to get cykle, magicdeatheye, eg pulse, nfm, phase84, ultimate circle of fifths, midi mod, streemur, mozaic, k7d and then just now eg waveshaper. That's me sorted. Will use everything.

Now to tidy up the homescreen.

I have anxiety. I bought a $100 gift card and I'm contemplating throwing it at the Fabfilter bundle. All the reviews say how far Superior it is to everything else like it on iOS so I feel like I should own it, but that is a lot of money despite the sale and basically I'm afraid that I'll suck at mixing and mastering regardless. I don't even know how to use most of those tools properly. I do own ProQ2/3 and they are really nice but I also own all of the DDMF apps, most of the TB apps, and a plethora of others which seem to do a fine job of...whatever they do. Ugh, I hate this feeling. I don't even enjoy that part of the process. Hell, I can't even remember the last track I completed. Sometimes having the right tool makes all the difference, but sometimes all you need is to know how to use what you already have. Someone tell me why these are better than every other tool out there (which I probably already own), what they do that is unique, or just tell me I probably won't be able to tell the difference anyway and sound is all subjective...

If you're unsure you can get equivalents from other devs: for example ToneBooster Barricade offers 90% of what FabFilter Pro-L can do. ToneBoosters Reverb has even more features then FabFilter Pro-R (and sounds just as good). Mani Consulting Gate could stand in for Pro G (and their compressor could do instead of Pro-C), and if you need a De-Esser then 4pockets or KlevGrand also do one.

The main reason to get the FabFilters is for the excellent UI, which is unsurpassed IMO.

This is an area that I haven’t even delved into yet, so take this “advice” with a grain of salt. If I were in your shoes I’d wait. If you have tools that you can use that you don’t understand maybe focus on those. When I get more apps than I know what to do with I start feeling guilty and that I’ve wasted my money. Beating oneself up is counter productive and keeps one from enjoying the journey.

A little more than half. I’m pretty settled in with tools/process these days and only adding cherries on top like Poly2 which I think will be fantastic for me.

I did a bad thing. I bought Auria Pro.... then deleted and cancelled the order, got a refund. I know this is not good for the developers, and

had it been a smaller independent I wouldn’t have done this.

    ????
Fwiw, AP is the product of a small independent developer. I think it is another one person business.

I didn’t realise that. Too late now :( but really if I can crash something after an hour without doing anything particularly taxing I’d rather save my £ or reinvest somewhere else

Fwiw, crashes in AP can usually be isolated to a particular AU.it may be that you had the bad luck to have chosen an AU or combination that isn't stable in AP.

  • Lagrange
    Ruismaker Noir & Ripplemaker
    miRack
    Effectrix
    NS2
And will probably add Pure Synth Platinum

  • Just got iMPC Pro. Purchased because it seems versatile. And because I hadn’t bought an iOS groovebox in over 10 hours. Also... joined the cult of iBassist. Shaved my head and bought some funky clothes at Goodwill. 😎
