  • How imminent is AU hosting?

Unlikely, but it’s still shaping... too early to tell

Gotcha, thanks! I'm currently working on a setup for jamming with drambo and the minilab mkII which works quite well, since mapping the pads in the minilab to those in drambo lets me switch and mute tracks, control transport, and more. Using midi out from tracks in drambo means I can use the controller for several AUs in AUM very easily. My favorite setup at the moment is drambo with drum samples on tracks 1-8 triggered by pads, and midi out for Zeeon, House MK-I, Ripplemaker, and/or Spectrum.

However, since none of these AUs support relative encoders, the parameters go all over the place when switching between them. So, my hope is that when hosted as AUs, the problem will go away...

Anyway, now I'll be spending more time with Waves and perhaps won't need to use external synths as much, but rather use multi-out and add individual effects on each track.

    So many possibilities!

There is a CV Quantizer module that can force notes into the scale notes you specify. Not exactly what you're looking for probably, though.

ahhh ok, i honestly only have used drambo so far as a sequencer so i haven’t dug in deep.. but now that i have the waaaaave i’m going to give it another crack, cv quan will do it!

Just dropped on beta so it won’t be next week but judging by developer’s dedication it shouldn’t be that long.

Wow, the AU hosting.. my “game” has been changed so many times recently that I don’t even know what game I’m playing anymore lol!

I’ve been thinking about what multiple instances of Drum Computer on a Drambo track through a mixer will be like, like the AU teaser video posted above shows. We’re going to have some serious capabilities here soon fellas!

Like having 8 channels of Drum Computer multi out and 8 channels of Drambo multi out in AUM isn’t mind blowing enough already 🤯

  • Theme song for Drambo AUv3 support :D

  • Now, I don't like to rush to a decision about apps, but since this thread now has 116,600 views and over 3,000 comments, I feel ready to wade in.
I reckon this Drambo thingy is pretty good.
I bought it the day it was released, because, well, drambo. Until last week, I'd only opened it four or five times, thought 'pretty', tried and failed to achieve something musical, then drifted back to gadget or, lately, GR-16.
Then I watched a video about the sequencer. Oh boy. Now I'm trying to get to grips it before AU hosting arrives. It's an absolute beast. P-locks and trig conditions. Mama.
I'm keeping a close eye on those of you who are using this with hardware, as it's an app crying out for physical knobs to twist and buttons to press.
isequence was an early purchase for me, and I've bought every @giku_beepstreet app since, but this is incredible. I hope I can find the time to do it justice and learn it properly.
One question, and I'm sure it's user error. I've tried searching this thread without success. Using the 'step' button, I can offset a note (very useful, but would be handy to be able to move it either side of the grid). there's also a slider for gate and velocity. Neither of those has any effect on my sequenced notes. Apologies if this has been answered before. What am I doing wrong?

  • Is anyone using Elektron gear as a midi controller for Drambo? I recently picked up a Model:Cycles, partially cause I haven't had a piece of hardware in about... almost a decade, and the price was good. Plus I kinda missed having dedicated physical controls.

I already tested to see if retrig on M:C places multiple midi notes - it doesn't. So I'm thinking a lot of these kinds of things are native to the internal sound engine only. Which is aight I guess.... but wondering if anyone else has tried this and what the experience is like?

    You can rearrange tracks.
Go to ‘Main’ page and move tracks around like any other module. Keep in mind that signal flow goes left>right and top>bottom

And now you know why I always tell him to stfu.lol. Thanks 🙏🏽.

Never fail to get a chuckle from Capn Willie!

Yes sure, Drambo host can load AU Drambos, but Drambo host can't load another Drambo host. :)

Drambo host loading himself as a previous drambo host would lead us to an impossible universal paradox and the whole galaxy could implode into a dark hole.... so beware. :D

I’m using OT as a controller for D. Only the cross fader though. It basically allows me to dial in variations in OT, different variations in Drambo and apply them together.

Cool, yeah I just quickly tested midi learn with various knobs on the M:C, no dice lol... only trig keys and pads spit out any kind of midi value. Ah well

@iansainsbury, @iammane I'm currently using these controllers, all fully supported in Drambo except aftertouch:

Velocity should work fine. One reason for not hearing any difference is that you haven’t attached any parameter changes to velocity.

Yep - A common user error I experienced when I began with Drambo was changing the step velocity, but not then also making the envelopes of that channel respond to velocity (turn up the Velocity amount knob on the envelopes). There's also a Velocity knob on Flexi Sampler, for example....

I have a Novation controller that is very similar to the Serato one you posted. It works well on the iPad (I use DJDJ app) but I hadn't thought to use it with Drambo...can I ask how you're using it/what controls you map to it?

    cheers

  • @rs2000 Yeah I have a Nektar 61 key big fugger, but was hoping that something smaller that I own like the M:C would maybe be able to control more. It's cool, even as a controller some stuff just doesn't function right (retrig, conditions maybe, haven't dug too deep). Bummed the knobs aren't doing anything

I'm curious to see the Hercules Serato in action with an iPad.

  • edited November 2020

@drewinnit, @iammane, @Montreal_Music Everything on the Hercules can be mapped in Drambo. The cross fader, all pads, switching pad banks for more pads on the Hercules, scratching in the Flexi Sampler, scratch wheel touch mapping, buttons, knobs, the two vertical faders... The Starlight has a really good MIDI implementation, dunno about the others.

According to the manual (p. 44), the knobs can send MIDI CC, you need to change the "ENCS" setting in the "MIDI Filter" section

I was looking at this Hercules earlier... how is the build quality?

Quite good! The knobs, faders and wheels feel solid, the pads are simple plastic clicky pads but all seem durable enough.

Offset is effectively a tiny delay, to loosen up the grid. AUv3 cannot offer negative delay only positive. Negative delay effectively is a delay compensation which has to come from the host. You can select all steps and shift them to the left (edit function).
Gate and velocity sliders are both working.
With the gate there is known visual bug - you can’t see note lengths reflecting the changes you make while adjusting, only by forcing sequencer to update - switch to another track and back. But you should hear the difference, just make sure trying with sustained envelope.
Velocity should work fine. One reason for not hearing any difference is that you haven’t attached any parameter changes to velocity.

Ah, brilliant, got it. Thanks :)
