  • I made progress today by using standalone plugins, core midi and blackhole for audio routing.

  • Definitely gonna change the entire plug in market pricing structure if these iOS apps / AU plug ins open nicely in desktop DAWs. A lot easier to justify buying more too!

Hi there, looks like apple is blocking installation of non authorized/opted iOS apps in latest beta (11.2).

It was only a matter of time. Maybe its better this way because even most not opted out AUv3 does not work on M1 machines and I wish the developers would opt out or just make it work because some might buy it in the Mac app store to find out it does not work. I know it said then not optimised for Mac but then please OPT OUT in the mac store and not try to get some extra money. This could lead to some bad reviews.

  • Yes I think so, it's a way of preserving both ecosystems.

  • Bought the video editing app Lumafusion to my iPad Pro 12.9" 2020 - lovely app!

And, luckily I can also install in thru Apple Appstore on my MacBook Pro M1 - and, running fuckin' good!

LumaFusion was the only app I have that is worth using on the M1. Aside from Model 15, which was working pretty well and even works on Intel. Only Model 15 only let me run one plugin at a time.

I think also Moog Model D working well, also all Korgs synth apps like M1, Oddyssei, Wavestation, iPolysix...

Those apps do not work. You cannot even download them, and if you used some third party way to get them on anyway that apparently has since been disabled.

Side-loading still works on 11.2 i just found out about it and grabbed all my audio apps to the Mac Mini :)
But apparently this article also says that Apple has reverted its decision for the time being?

    https://9to5mac.com/2021/01/19/apple-blocks-m1-mac-iphone-app-side-loading/

Update January 19, 2021: Apple has reverted this server-side change, and it is once again possible to side-load unsupported iPhone and iPad apps on an M1 Mac.
  • Has anyone with an M1 managed to get IDAM working without running into the bug that disables your iOS/iPad OS third party apps ? Did you manage to press “trust this computer” on connection without this happening ?

    Thanks

  • Yep IDAM working fine on my M1.

My Nembrini amps don't work in Logic as AU. That and some others I side loaded. But I've got so many working, that in itself was very surprising.

But 90% of them are side-loaded.
Not sure how this will play out, but we do have a voice.

  • I've been testing quite a few with Hosting AU as the host. Many won't load up the GUI, but 2 things help - open the App first in standalone (kinda like some iOS apps). After that, if the GUI doesn't appear, just unload and reload the AU in Hosting AU, and after that, most all Apps run great. Most IAA apps run fine on their own. What's really been enjoyable is utilizing Loopback to create an Audio device of the AU, then audio can be piped in/out without a host.

sounds like a hassle and to be honest....a bit pointless to me.SO many great Mac apps and since everything is made for touch screen,i dont miss most of the stuff on M1.And the few i tested didnt work properly (out of the box) or...at all.Generally, not only music.Of course there are nice exceptions like the modell 15 but thats the only interesting one from my armada of music apps.Almost all other (interesting ones) did not even show up. I m not using imazing. The "official" selection is very disappointing but i dont care much cause that s not why i bought a new Mac anyway...

I agree, only app I really would love to run smooth inside Logic on M1 is actually Drambo which works great as standalone but the AUv3 does not work (still the scroll anything and it will crash Logic GUI bug) as well as using other AUv3 inside the standalone does not work at all.
So after some time it is still a mixed bag. The only 2 AUv3 working fine (but also not using them inside Drambo on Mac) is Model 15 and miRack (but they also have some bugs and seems not really optimise for Mac usage/mouse input).
I know its officially not supported but I just wished Beepstreet would solve that I simple can use Drambo without it crash always when I try to scroll trough a list. So far I just could create presets within the standalone version and open them as AUv3 inside Logic but there you cannot edit much or it will crash again.
It is nice to let me use it officially but still strange that he has no interest to let it run smooth or the bug seems hard to solve, not sure.
Indeed it might be anyway pointless since there are million working tools on Macm for free, payed or cheap like iOS apps but some apps are still so nice and unique that I want them on both platforms since running them directly inside an environment like Logic gives them new life and bring them to the next level.
It is almost like I see a sweet piece of cake, bite and realise they use salt instead of sugar 😏

~~I was trying a few iOS apps on my new mac mini M1 16GB. Some work better than others. I tried Synthscaper and Fieldscaper and they seem to work well, only I can't see how to import audio files into them. They don't scale up so well either.

I was thinking Soundscaper would be really nice on the desktop, but the AppStore on Big Sure shows Soundscaper with a price of $9.99. Yet, I've owned Soundscaper for a long time. I just double-checked by deleting Soundscaper off my iPad then redownloading it. Igor's other apps that I own show up as purchased. Just not Soundscaper.

I was going to just "Buy App" to download it to my mac mini M1, and hope that it says that I already own it and not charge me. But, I'm wondering if the devs have the open to make iOS apps where you have to buy them again for use with M1?~~

EDIT: Never mind. I just took a chance and "bought" the app that I already own and it said that it was a free download.

Works well, but it'd sure be better if it scaled up bigger.

When apps have a method to import audio files in from the iOS files app, etc. -- has anyone figured out what the equivalent is when using on Big Sur macOS?

  • Are the Touch Alternatives any good?

I'm waiting for the M1 with an expressive (MPE) keyboard.

  • I've got a decent swag of ios synths running stand alone and a few as audio units in Studio One on the new M1. Bloody luvverly.

A few favorites are sadly missed - like all the Icegear stuff - but others like Addstation and Drambo are an absolute delight without the inevitable DSP overloads... far more interesting and powerful than most of my desktop gear as expected. Absolutely requires a decent BT mouse though ... that track pad thing is next to useless at least for me.

Some apps can be a bit clunky - like iwavestation has trouble picking up mouse clicks loading presets at random times, others have iap issues but so far they're playing OK. The list I've got running stand alone includes:

    Addstation
    Drambo
    Changeling. (!). Truly indestructible app.
    Riffer
    Chordmaps2
    Concentric
    Xynthesizr
    Polyphase
    Piano motifs
    Imonopoly
    Im1
    Model 15
    Model D
    Ravenscroft
    Continua
    Sunrizer
    Zeeon
    ISymphonic
    Mela
    Kaspar
    Phosphor3
    Spacecraft
    Kauldron
    KQ Dixie
    Bleass alpha
    Borderlands
    Factory
    Thumbjam
    Ting
    Shockwave
    iBassist
    Digitalism
    Ifretless brass
    iFretless sax
    Aphelian
    BS 16i
    Flynth
    Odyssei
    Quanta

I'm just waiting for AUM to get on the right side of history and put out an M1 friendly option -even anIAP ... can't ignore Apple's next generation of machines and the potential market that offers. I'd forgotten what a nuisance full blown DAWs can be... just don't need it for most of my stuff anyway. Done right AUM will take over the entry level end of the Apple music-making business. Won't take long either.

    Thanks for the heads up

Have you found a way of recording these into a daw?

I've tried using Ableton and Blackhole software audio router but to no avail as yet....

  • Studio One (with an au option) sees them all ... logs them as available .... looks right - but I've actually spent days just getting them across from the ipads and seeing what turns up on the M1 - not all do by any means but those listed above run stand alone. The Moogs and the korgs seem to be working fine - sound superb - but I'm actually still trying to see how well the DAW itself has made the transfer.

If I get the chance today I'll see how it all goes recording... should be all working - if Studio One is behaving itself. I'll keep plugging away today and let you know if it works right through to recording an actual bit of music.

I asked a few posts back in this thread about where the user files are kept when using SoundScaper.

    Just figured it out.

Ok, it's pretty easy. I just launched Soundscaper, then recorded a few seconds... named the file and searched for it.

After finding the location of the recorded file, I created a folder alias so I can easily just use that to move files out. And, if I put other files into the same folder, they show up as "user files" in Soundscaper. :)

    The location is user>Library>Containers>SoundScaper>Data>Documents

So, SoundScaper is working nicely on mac mini M1 16GB :)

  • Hey, it looks like now I can't download ANY iOS apps on M1 Big Sur. I've tried signing in and out of my account, ran maintenance disk utility, multiple restarts, etc. But, now I can't download any of them. I only had SoundScaper installed, so I deleted it to see if it was causing an issue, but now I can't redownload it either.

It's not a store connection problem because I can download macOS apps just fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Strange. I noticed a few last night wouldn't let me download, but now none of them will. As if the ability has been turned off at the server.

I see download icons for my purchased iOS apps, but when I click on them it does nothing.

    Anyone else notice this?

  • @skiphunt yep, I'm seeing the same behavior, even with apps that I had installed already and then deleted

  • @NoiseFloored said:

Ahhh... Ok. I can stop trying to troubleshoot then. I'd tried everything I could think of. Several apps that I was able to download before and they worked ok, but much more pleasant on the iPad... I deleted them, but now those won't download either.

I hope this is just a temporary glitch in the store, because some of them work quite well.
