I’m about to jump on a Maschine+ the only thing keeping me on this side of the cliff is the prospect of Loopy Pro.

Looks like Loopy Pro will do an awful lot but curious to know how you see it being a Maschine+ replacement? Feels like a stretch.

Certainly a stretch. The lack of a proper audio clip recorder/looper/launcher in iOS means I’m not finding a workflow that I really enjoy. Sort of “breaks the chain”.
LK, AUM, Drambo, and many excellent apps... those are exciting and fun, keep me interested in wanting to do more and better. But the audio side is just frustrating, having to go through loopholes and a Mirian of problems to get stuff done.
I’ve been watching Maschine+ videos and it looks like a solid and fun workflow. Learning new ways and workflows is fun and boosts creativity. I believe Loopy Pro would do just that, provide new paths and exploration routes. Fiddle around and have fun.
But we all know it’s mainly a case of bad GAS 🤦🏻

Thanks @mccy! Yeah pricing is a tricky one. I haven’t started doing the research on that, but past experience has shown generally that the actual price often doesn’t matter so much: given the size of the market, it’s fairly elastic - higher price means fewer buyers, low price means more buyers, and it more or less balances out. I’m sure that’s only true to a certain extent, though, and a more professional product is better off not in the hands of too many people who don’t understand what it is 😃

Do you figure in support costs when thinking about pricing?

I'm experiencing the same. I want one really working solution with scenes and some more tracks. Loopy was nearly perfect, so I hope Pro will be perfect for what I'm doing.

Not the costs per se (it’s just me so there aren’t really costs, just my time), but I certainly do avoid pricing too low and getting too many drongos 😄

Ha, I can well imagine! Sounds like you've dialed in the price point to keep drongos at bay.

We need another video to keep us excited for the beta, hint, hint.

Fallon, on this thread, ftw. Imagining how the Billy Joel segment would have gone if he was hovering over this monster going 'Hang on a sec. Lemme just find the loop button.'

  • Oh no, no button searching with this – it’s going to be just as usable as Loopy HD!

    Yes. Luminous donuts

  • Must be confusing pricing for iOS. Even the high end for iOS of say $30 is absolutely nothing in the context of pro audio. But the platform is the platform. Word of mouth is what’s gonna matter most anyway regardless of price.

Make it $100 for all I care lol. You could make it $30 and do half off sales every year and still rope a lot of causal impulse buyers. Or you could do $20 w no sales and get around the same number people at a slightly different demographic. It does seem manageable for beginners the way you talk about it. Hell I’m a beginner and feel that an app like this has massive potential for teaching you how to make any music you want to make. It’s the live element. It encourages you to not be afraid to use any instrument whether it’s software or hardware or a toy or your mouth—doesn’t matter. And that’s powerful. And good for YouTube/Instagram.

Sure it’s deep, but so is GarageBand and that can be used by anyone. So you could charge $15 and try to go for a larger market. I’d like to think/hope that this is so versatile that you can’t go wrong either way.

  • Maybe I’m wrong but I can’t help feeling that this is a seriously untapped market waiting for exactly this.

I think people see the potential of live looping, but then realize that it’s not as easy as it appears. But since the app is specifically designed to address that with helping you lock in your first loop, that changes the game. Or should.

  • Now that Atom has dropped, this is the most anticipated app. 🤩

You’re definitely on point. Looping is awesome but it comes with certain limits which Loopy Pro addresses. First, most existing loopers are limited when it comes to the number of tracks and they mostly don’t allow you group your loops in order to build a song structure. You might populate 4-5 tracks, hit the wall and have no space to go- Loopy Pro enables you to have more tracks than you probably will ever use, plus it allows to group the tracks. Second, there is no audio AND midi looper on the market as far as I know. Should you want to combine the two today you’d need to implement workarounds, ensure things are in sync... That will be huge for LP. Last, LP will allow you to tailor the app to your needs as it has complex I/O routing, FX, AUv3 hosting capabilities...

In two words, a game changer!

If this one has both midi and audio, why do I even need Atom?

  • I looked at GTL when I was searching for a good looper and while it does what it says there were some functionalities that I missed. I tried implementing Quantiloop and Enso trying out different setups within AUM. Unfortunately these were not ideal for what I like to do with looping coming from RC505 hardware. Loading too many instances of Enso in AUM would make it crash, then having the controls in each instance made it a hassle to operate. I implemented Mozaic into the game but eventually a simple session with couple tracks felt like an unstable patchwork. Quantiloop is awesome and gives high level of control but 4 tracks is a bit limiting.
Loopy Pro looks to be the answer as it ticks all the boxes!

Btw, I posted a Mozaic script for controlling Loopy that provides some grouping features that. Have found useful to tide me over til Loopy Pro is here:

Piano roll editing for one thing.

Solid script by the looks of it! I’ve put on hold my iOS looping for now waiting for the Pro and back on the 505 with iPad as a sound module. I love modularity but at this stage I’m after a comprehensive all in one solution.

Just to clarify: it'll be just audio at the start. It already supports instrument audio units for input, and you can drive those with MIDI of course (along with MIDI audio units), but it'll actually record the audio for now. MIDI recording and editing will come after 1.0.

Thanks. I've been holding off getting a midi looper, but maybe now is the time.

  • If we can get Michael’s DR to prescribe him adipex maybe we can convince him to work around the clock for the next few weeks and release the beast 😂

Haha, that would be amazing! Honestly I'd settle for getting to work every day for couple of weeks in a row, but parenthood has well and truly seen to that 😁
