Tele, are you on iOS 9 now with no issues or iOS 8?

I am on IOS9. I dont think I can revert to 8 or 7 w/o jail braking or something. There is no way to do it in regular iTunes anyway.

I was originally on 7.x and refused to upgrade b/c it was stable as hell (for me anyways). But I wanted Notion and it was only avail for > 8.x so I hit upgrade not noticing that I was going from 7.x straight to 9.x

I basically ran into the crazy white screen loop from hell. i think it might be b/c i upgrade over wireless or b/c i had a password set on my ipad.

  • You can revert to any iOS that is still being signed by Apple, check here for it's status http://api.ineal.me/tss/status

You can downgrade back to iOS 8.4.1, if you like, by following these instructions (Mac & Windows)...

    http://osxdaily.com/2015/09/16/downgrade-ios-9-back-to-ios-8-4-1/

As long as iOS 8.4.1 is still being signed by Apple you are good to go.

Thank you @knewspeak for iOS status link.

search got better, I'm finding bits and pieces of audio in old emails and stuff I bought from iTunes that are not on the device, like old tv shows
    2 hours later ...

I've got search to crash a few times, all I do is press show me more ... Crash back to login screen- strange orientation issues for a few sec. This is creepy, everything you type in there somehow lands @ Apple, and I have turned on leave me alone, so I turned of everything apple in spotlight search, Bing and siri suggestions still the same. Oops where is the no bullshit button here? Ah it was the videos button, There has to be a simpler solution for this! Where is the single don't creep me out apple button?

  • @Kikoblu, thanks for posting the guide, yes, it's always good to know that Apple usually signs more than one iOS, when it introduces an update, if you try out the new one, but want to revert back it gives you this option (for a limited time), just wish Apple would allow this, in a form, permanently.

  • I'm waiting for more creepy iOS suggestions, hey it's time for your xxx app. ^^

  • Could someone please tell me if Flux fx is working in iOS 9 ? It is well overdue a promised update but I would hate to lose the use of it by updating to 9 even for a short while.

  • Hmm... maybe on my Air 1 I should wait for the first iOS9 point upgrade... one usually comes along within a couple of weeks

  • Ill wait a few months.Everything runs fine and I don't want to end up with a half bricked device. I don't trust big ios updates anymore.Apple don't care if your music apps are broken since the earn the most money with games like Minecraft and candycrush.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not moving up to iOS 9 until I'm sure my essential music apps will work under the new regime. I have some room for experimenting though, as my Mrs also has a Mini 2 so I will update her device, install the most important music apps on it and see what happens. ;)

    LOL :)

  • iOS9 problem... iPhone 4s cannot connect to wifi. Pop up wrongly alerts the password as entered incorrectly.

    That's a BIG bug!

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7219555 Just one of many threads I've found reporting the same issue.

Thanks!! I actually didnt know that. I might try to revert to 8.x if there are issues. So far its not as slow as I was expecting. I basically disable everything -- all notification and all -- just music apps and itunes music on it.

Thanks!! I think I will take you up on this. I work mostly on enterprise stuff so dont really have much time to tinker with consumer stuff. But I really should know this stuff.

I think I will try to downgrade to 8.

thats what i usually do. i really didnt want to move from 7 as everything was working and i was worried it will slow down the device. so far 9.x does not seem to run slower. today i might have some free time to test out all the music apps to see if they perform better and if they crash. but looks like all the big ones i use (Korg Gad and Cubasis released updates).

  • FWIW I am on an Air 1.

So far I cant really tell there is a speed slowdown. But I have all fancy stuff like Siri and notifications and social media stuff disabled. But from the little I have read about the new features I dont need to plan to use any of them on my device. The only reason for my upgrade was that some apps (Notion and Korg M1 now required at least IOS 8.x).

Will 9 be snappier than 8 on older devices? This report is not encouraging: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/09/ios-9-on-the-ipad-2-not-worse-than-ios-8-but-missing-many-features/

What would be nice when you see benchmark's for the latest devices, is benchmarking established devices on a before and after basis of main iOS updates, to see if performance improves or not.

I just launched FluxFX as IAA effect in Cubasis -- all good!

I asked a question over on the iPad Musician FB group - won't go into all the detail here - but basically, was trying to understand if iOS 9 made the throughput of AB better on older devices such as an iPad mini 1 or an iPad 2 (back to its pre SDK 2.1 level when it didn't have to be based on IAA). I.e., essentially, whether iOS 9 had improved the performance of IAA.

I have not updated any devices to iOS 9 yet (most of mine are on 7.1.2 still although I do have 1 iPad 3 on 8), but, someone who kindly tested a couple of scenarios similar to what I had shown as a useful testbed indicated that, no, it had not improved matters.

The comparison video I did back in Nov 2014 that demonstrates the issue between pre AB SDK 2.1 apps and post on iOS 7 is linked below. I did not update to 8 on these iPad minis as a result.

I would be interested in feedback from others who have updated older devices (as far as an iPad 3 - but not beyond) to iOS 9 as to whether you can likewise either refute that and demonstrate it's better or confirm it's not changed and still is unusable. If it hasn't changed, as seems to be the case, then I will not update these iPad mini 1's from 7.1.2 and older ipas myself.

    Many thanks in advance.

I think it's more annoying on MY PHONE!!! - No need to find it, when it's in my hand ;-)

  • Safari amkes mysterious things. When i use the arrow to go back i see threads which are some days old? Damn did they include finally a flux compensator and i can travel back in time with iOS 9 :D
