  • Features I would like to see

    1. Directly record audio to a pad via audiobus and interapp
    2. Soundpack management option so that old unused soundpacks can be stored on PC/MAC. Helps 16 GB users a lot.
    3. More functions and support to Launchpad mini hardware.

    That made me LOL!

Since I nominated myself chair of the get-to-know-us committee... Meet Kobamoto! A friendly and hopeful fella who really only wants two things from any app that could be somehow associated with the words 'beat' and 'making': a) it should make the most of what most of the sampler using world collectively considers 'common knowledge/best practices' of what makes a sampler a good sampler after 20 years of samplers and 2) it should support follow actions. We disagree sometimes but he's rarely off point on these two recurring issues, in my opinion—particularly the first.

Probably one of the best posts I've read on this forum.

  • i agree with him way more than he thinks :)

  • @syrupcore Great post about devs and the practical, PR and prudent benefits to telling us grown ups what's what rather than what someone may think we want to hear. I think most of us long for it straight up (Vicar). We're big boys.

As regards The Belt (in all its forms), I'm against it. Discipline in its other forms, but more than anything consistency and patience.

And all the love you can bring yourself to share out loud.

  • @launchpadforios any chance the custom sample iap will work on iphones? I love the app but not being able to import my own sample library on iphone forced me to delete it since I primarily produce on my iphone ;(.

Recording is probably one of the strongest requests. Whatever we do, we want to try and do it in a simple way, but make sure it's really good for a broad range of users.

    1. Soundpack management option so that old unused soundpacks can be stored on PC/MAC. Helps 16 GB users a lot.

We recently put quite a bit of effort to allow packs to be removed, and restored easily. Hopefully this should be much better now. Let us know if there are more improvements we can a make.

    1. More functions and support to Launchpad mini hardware.

Interestingly, very few users ask for this, so fire away on your dream features ;-)

We've debated this a LOT. The honest answer is that we're not focusing on this right now. The primary reason is that we believe the phone is mainly a short-term use device, while on-the-go (obviously not in your case though).

Whereas the iPad, is a much more 'sofa/at home' deeper-use experience, where more 'stuff' tends to get done for a lot longer time period (nearly 3-4 times longer on average). It was a real tough one though, as it's definitely a big request. It hasn't totally disappeared though.

  • @Launchpadforios

Great to have you here. The Launchpad app is good - so good it got me to buy the mini pad and keys and control HW. So, here comes the 'but if only...'

    1. MIDI. Clock in and out. Sync as master or slave. To iOS apps and external.

    2. For each vertical group to be available as an independent audio channel into Audiobus so we can mix professionally and build tracks or live performances with external fx.

    3. To be able to adjust tempo without going back to the home page.

    4. Transmit and receive MIDI so we can sequence pad changes.

    5. Automation - not sure how this would work, but some way to capture realtime fx parameter changes and add them to pads - if we could get access to the parameters on fx edit pages and map them to HW controls and then record changes and store them with the pad alongside a sample that would be pretty useful...saving automation to Cubasis along with pad changes would be cool.

    6. Thanks for the psytrance soundpack. Now, if you listen to some Goa trance from '94 to '97 (Hallucinogen, Man With No Name, Astral Projection, Infinity Project etc) and filled the store with about a dozen packs full of that stuff you'd save me hours of sound design and sample building - I realise this is quite a niche market, but I thought I'd just put it out there and plant the seed.

    7. I hate my day job and have an Electronics degree with Music Technolgy Systems as a specialism. When are Novation likely to be recruiting in the systems design / project management areas and where do you advertise?

Keep up the good work and it is seriously encouraging to have you guys engaged...especially given the direction you are heading with the forthcoming Circuit release.

Hi, welcome to the AB forum.

I'm not sure this is so true with the newer iPhones. I purchased a 6S, just for the reason of upgrading my phone. But am finding that I really like the form factor for music making apps. The slightly larger screen and greater speed work really well for performance based apps. Plus they sell a shed load more iPhones than iPads I hear..

  • Welcome to the Audiobus forum!

I love Launchpad and have bought almost every soundpack to it!
    Keep up the good work!

Agreed. The iPhone 6 is definitely changing this. We're keeping an eye on this as it continues to evolve.

Hey @xen, that's a cool feature list. Rather than answer each one, I'd just like to say a big thanks for the list. Many of them we would like ourselves (which is always a good sign). With regard to the Soundpacks, we're going to start increasing the rate at which we release them, which should help. However, there is a balance here to feel like we're 'overselling' packs and over-notifying.

We've tried really REALLY hard to give as much away for free, yet keep a nice balance from pushing packs hard at users. Having said that, the response has definitely been for more packs! ...so we're gonna act on that, and make sure we keep up the quality too.

    @Launchpadforios

Cheers, it's encouraging when we get productive dialogue going and most of us of do understand that no single app is going meet everyone's workflow needs.

On a related note, where is the Launchkey app in terms of development? It seems to have just had iOS comparability updates for the last couple of years, which indicates it hasn't been abandoned. Are there any plans to take it further? Possibly in relation to the new Circuit HW?

  • Another here fore recording from other apps to pads directly using AB or apps.

Yep, I agree with that - though dealing with an unruly 7 year old hyperactive boy tests the patience of someone with a lot of patience. My dad was a big Irish ex-boxer builder, yet despite having the most obnoxious teenage boy in Essex (me) in his house I never got smacked by him, though my mum took up the slack. His reasoning: big burly blokes don't hit women or kids, a philosophy I've held dear.

Welcome to the forum @Launchpadforios - I'm notorious for taking threads off topic and talking about sausages, or wood, so please accept my apologies in advance.

I like Launchpad, and thinking about getting the IAP so I can import my own samples, haven't found any vids on the subject so any links welcome.

    Welcome !

I would like to use launchpad as live performance tool alongside iOS based sequencer and Beatstep, (and Circuit if some lovely person will buy me one for xmas).

So master Midi clock and MMC over IAA and external hardware are the biggest things for me.
midi slave to clock would be better, but I guess that would require real-time time-stretching first.

    Thanks for listening

    Greetings,

I'm sure you were aware that you'd get an avalanche of feature requests once you introduced yourself here :)

I'm also sure that you have an overview as to where you see how the Launchpad App fits into iOS music making and where you'd like it to go ? Personally, I think it has an awful lot of potential, beyond what it currently does.

I should also point out that I'm sufficiently interested in the ongoing development of the app, that I've bought all the IAPs (Not all the soundpacks).

Agreed. It seems that so much of parenting (esp. from the child's perspective) is about power and using the physical version of that because you have it in abundance just seems unfair and, more than anything, weak.

I hope the fact that you just disagreed with me isn't lost on you. :p

+10 for record to pad (one shot or fixed multiple of a single bar's length) and iPhone feature parity. Totally get deprioritizing iPhone these days but it is a badass music making platform.

  • Do the faders respond to the fader mode in the Launchpad Pro yet? I tried it right after the Pro came out and it did not yet. That's a pretty useful and productive feature update. Thanks!

Like Native Kontrol's LPC-Live script, I'd like the hardware pads to function as chop triggers for a loop. A single loop would be spread across the pads, with each pad representing, say, a 1/16, 1/32 or 1/64 section. Chop playing could be optionally quantized from 1/32ish to 1/4ish. Another option could be having the ability to change loop length with pads.

Additionally, the pads could also represent per-semitone tuning increments, so that the loop could be retriggered at various pitches. And a legato mode could allow re-tuning without restarting loop.

    Welcome to the forum, LP.

@Launchpadforios -- hi there. Just adding my welcome and some thoughts: very glad you are here on the internet's best forum!!!

I have a Novation Launchkey-Mini controller along with the Launchkey app and Launchpad app (and several of the IAP's), I love how they are integrated. Would love to see more from Launchkey app, it's got a ton of potential. It would be super duper great if all of this worked together within AudioBus.

Also, Circuit has got my attention...big time...its on my Xmas wish list.

  • First of all, thanks to @Launchpadforios for joining the forum. This is a great community made better by the fact that developers visit and listen. So thanks for that.

I just have to second a lot of feature requests - MIDI Out (many new users are confused that the Launchpad app doesn't function as a Launchpad for Ableton - I would also pay for this as an IAP), MIDI Clock (for me this would be to sync to Laptop DAW probably), Record Sample to Pad (so much iOS music is using Audiobus to send sound and then resample it), easier audio import.

Personally, I love the Launchpad app and use it for fun frequently. If I'm on a train or a plane, I'm probably jamming to a new pack I just bought. However, two things bother me:
    1) You can't use FX and the bottom three rows of the Launchpad. It basically makes the bottom three irrelevant to me. If FX could appear at top or bottom that could fix this.
    2) It's a real pain to find loops from different packs to go together. First, I'd like to see all the loops of a type (e.g. bass/vocal) and choose from them as opposed to hunting through each pack library. Second, it'd be great if there was some basic key/scale information so that it's clear what loops could maybe mashup well together.

Again, thank you for joining the forum. Sorry that we throw all this stuff at you. But I really do enjoy using Launchpad and think it could be a favorite app with a little love. It means a lot that you came by so thanks for saying hi and let us know if we can do anything to help you.

Hey @Xen, Launchkey is a fun app, but for now we're focusing a few other areas, mainly making sure the iOS9 transition is as seamless and experience for our users as possible.

Big Launchpad fan here. Love how it handles time stretching and odd time sigs. The effects are great too IMO.

Having multiple audio outs would make this already great app so much better. A separate out per column would be ideal. Short of that adding 3-4 busses would be a huge improvement

    +1 on the timestretch.

  • I'd love to see Audioshare as an AU inside Launchpad. Does the team plan on implementing AU's ?

They don't at present. Again the honest answer is that Launchpad Pro was primarily created for Ableton Live users, and the other Launchpads (RGB, and Mini) are more for iOS. Of course, we in the team also use Launchpad Pros with the app, so its not a hard and fast rule.
