Im sad about the mini, because the color difference, in low-power mode, between the colors on active and inactive pads (green / Amber?) is too slight for a colorblind person to see. It would be wonderful if the inactive could be a little dimmer. That would conserve power, AND make life much easier for 1 out of 11 males.
We (the team) certainly want some of these too ;-)
Great comments. re: (2) This is an area that can definitely be improved. It's tricky to build a tune from scratch right now.
We're super proud of this one. It's taken us a long time to create, and there has been more love injected into this, by the guys @HQ than I've seen in a while. You know when everyone in the company orders one immediately that it's good un ;-)
@Launchpadforios
Thanks for all the responses to the questions. Aside from looking at specific features, I'm also interested in where you see the app in the longer term. It clearly occupies its own space in the range of apps available on iOS. The other key gap in the market is a DAW environment that operates in a similar way to Live. With the HW integration of Launch products with Live, is this how you see the app developing in the future?
Hi launchpadforios, could you give the launchpad app functions like MLR/monome?
there hasn't been a grid app on iOS with these capabilities since chipped and beatshuffler
Since the launchpad app is the leading app of this type all of these years later maybe we could get some follow actions and mLr functions
I WILL FOLLOW!
Thanks for all the ideas guys. The ability to get sounds and play around with them like this really appeals to us too.
For me, Launchpad is currently in the 'fun' category of Apps. I like playing with it and the FX are really good, but it's currently pretty much constricted to triggering samples really. Importing your own sounds is far from easy and trying to mix and match sounds from different sample packs is problematic, as they are (usually) in different keys and tempos. Some way of being able to trigger the sample at different points in the waveform would be a really valuable addition (IMO).
As I said in my earlier post, Launchpad has a load of potential, but just messing about with sample packs reaches the end of its creative options for me, pretty quickly. I couldn't really figure out how I might start to create a track from exporting recordings from the app currently.
We also agree. This is something we'd like to help with in future.
@launchpadforios any hope for better colorblind support on Launchpad hardware?
Hey @Icepulse. We'd highly recommend the Launchpad RGB model in this particular case. It has much higher brightness, and I think will solve many of the challenges you mentioned.
It is slightly more expensive than the Launchpad Mini, however much of this cost is inherent with driving higher brightness ( to help solve the problems you mention), faster processing speeds, and RGB colour.
I need unpowered iOS support. Would it be so bad to simply lower the intensity of the loaded clips not playing? That would suffice. Please forward this request to the hardware team. Colorblind artists need love, too.
Personally I find importing loops a breeze. Like any tool like this carefully cutting the loop beforehand and knowing what tempo your loop is in pays off. I was really impressed how launchpad perfectly interpreted some 7/4 loops I'd created.
+1 for pitch transpose and ability to midi record performances. -1 for anything that would make launchpad a bloated do all app. One of its great strengths IMHO is that it has a very specific focus that it does well.
@Icepulse Sure thing. We'll pass on your comments to HQ for any future versions of the product. I certainly understand you're point about reducing the colour of the other clips. Thanks again for the feedback.
I'd like to see it as a firmware upgrade, or even
Controlled by the LP app. Don't want to spend another $100, just to use it! The color diff. between playing / not playing clips on the app are as clear as can be.
You couldn't nowadays. Child Services would be at your door before the echo bounced off the wall lmao
We'd love to know more about your mid record performances request? can you let us know more about this?
Take a look at GM Mobile by image line. I think they nailed the performance recording and after editing aspect.
Hi @Launchpadforios
I would love to see this app developed further. I deleted it because it was more based towards playing sample packs and not your own samples so it's not for me, but can see the appeal if that's what you are after.. If this changes I'll be interested again.
Being able to midi record your performances is what I'm after too so then when playing back your performance you can change the effects and tweak and adjust the performance/ order of sample playback etc.
Got it. A step towards arranging and tweaking post performance.
Having the onscreen controls output to Midi would enable this, and would mean performance could be recorded and tweaked using an external (to the app) sequencer.
Having this, along with the ability to do it in-app (like GM Mobile does), and be able to export midi from that (Like GM Mobile doesn't) would be awesome, you could then use the internal recording when on the bus/train and use the external when you get home and want to integrate it with your full rig.
Another possibility perhaps is to have performance playback able to run in silent mode, i.e when playing back a performance it lights up the controls but makes no sound unless you physically touch the control. This may seem a wierd request, but what it would allow you to do is learn a performance in order that you can repeat it live. So you can make happy accidents, and then learn and practice the accidents to be able to perform them in a live situation.
It's really the same as @Carnbot's request - "Being able to midi record your performances [...] when playing back your performance you can change the effects and tweak and adjust the performance/ order of sample playback etc."
I assumed MIDI would be in the background of recording such performances, but maybe not. :-) One example of this is impc pro's "Timeline" tab. It's a grid where the y axis is pads (i.e. cells in Launchpad) and the x axis is a normal piano roll timeline.
Thanks for being so active on this forum.
@Launchpadforios - Welcome to the forum. I think you have a great app. I had no difficulty creating and importing my own samples. Doesn't really jive with my current recording workflow, but could certainly be handy triggering audio in a live context at some future time. Well done!
Batch importing user loops rather than item by item from the main screen would be nice. Audioshare integration would be a plus. Other than that, keep on keeping on. Your app makes my son very happy
Pretty much my take, right down to the son part
@Launchpadforios
I'm still on iOS 8, w/ latest Audiobus & Launchpad updates, but when I put LP into the input slot, the AB tab is frozen; unusable and immovable. Tried several output apps, but no change.
Any idea why?
Thanks.
Got it. We'll look into this.
iOS 8.4.1. Mini 2 (retina).
Thanks!
@launchpadforios, welcome:)
Some questions: can launchpad by externally synced and controlled? (Stop,run)
Can you load any sample, one shot, loop, etc and have them play as one shot, loop reverse etc?
Can FX be midi assigned and controlled, triggered?
Thanks
